Ok in continuation of my last post I am looking for some second opinions on ECU. Is it really the worst uni in Perth? And is it unlikely that ill make any friends/have fun while I am there? My friend said it was the worst uni and that everyone commutes so it would be a lot different than an american uni(such as OSU(bucks not ducks/sooners) where most people live on/around campus.

It is a huge difference in cost($12000-$15000 less) compared to the other programs. The education quality I am not too worried about since it is just for a year. My only concern is that I do not spend all this money and then regret it because I didnt meet anyone or the classes were awful.

Thanks!

Bugger that, don't go to Perth.

that bad, eh?

No it's a nice city but it's a hell of a long way away from the rest of the country. Great place to visit while you're here but I really wouldn't make it your base of operations. Costs a lot more if you have to fly 5+ hours just to get to Sydney so you can see all the big ticket items - there's a lot more to see and do on the eastern seaboard than there is in WA.

Don't get me wrong it's a top place but if you really want to experience as much as we can offer down here I'd reconsider going somewhere so remote. Newcastle or Wollongong (especially the gong because it's so close to Sydney) means you can normally catch a bus or a train to see the sights but if you were in Perth you'd be on planes everywhere once you'd exhausted the places out west. Remember the US and Australia are basically the same size but in our case there's really nothing between the coasts, flying from New York to LA is about the same as flying from Sydney to Perth instead down here you'd be flying over empty baking deserts rather than hundreds of small (and not so small) cities.

Ok I see. Well the thing is I live in a city half the size of Perth and theres nothing to do here except maybe go to the bars on campus or go to hockey game. We dont have an ocean or weather anywhere near as nice. I dont travel to NYC or Chicago often which would be comparable to Sydney.

So I dont think having to remain in Perth the majority of the time would be so bad. I would have the summer off so i could potentially travel to Sydney then and remain until the break ended.

Im really trying to convince myself, :p
