OMG.
The home button fingerprint scanner doesn't work when the fingerprint is covered. Scandal! Who would have thought! I'm sure all the other makers of devices with fingerprint scanners have solved this, otherwise let's go and complain to those companies too.

I don't think anyone here is saying that the scanner should work with gloves on. That's silly. On my iPhone 6, I was still able to press the home button and bring up the pass code screen.
Since my iPhone 7 plus doesn't have a 'real' button, that doesn't work. I used my nose yesterday. It did the trick, but it seems silly to have to do that. I live in the frozen tundra, I occasionally need to make a phone call outdoors and I'd really rather not have to take my gloves off if I can help it...

I read an article about touch screen gloves should be able to be recorded on the finger print scanner. Not sure how accurate this would be. I don't own any or I would test it out myself. Anyone here have some that could try and record the actual gloved print on the home button and see if it will let you unlock with the glove on?

Good points here, you are correct. On the other hand, has another manufacturer solved this in a meaningful way? Sounds like the folks in California lacked imagination or simply thought that having to take a glove of is a small price to pay. Touch-only devices always come with some compromises that the users have to deal with.

Am I the only one that can double click the home button with my touch gloves then enter my passcode? I have to move my thumb around a bit but I can definitely click the home button with my gloves on.
From what people are saying in this thread it appears that it depends on the glove.

It does suck. I use rubber gloves when working on my cars/things around the house. I used to be able to easily bring up the unlock screen and enter my code to unlock. Now, I have to remove my gloves, since even pressing the power button still requires pressing the home button after...

I really haven't found a lot that I hate about the new iPhone but now that winter is here and I have to wear gloves all the time outside this home button is really starting to piss me off. A company that's this smart can't figure out how to make a home button work with gloves is BS.
It was -20degree C yesterday, I feel you.

No, mine do that too.
