Are you really sure you'll get good bang for the buck on the 1.3gHz upgrade? I'm not arguing with you (believe it or not ;) ), but I don't think that I'd ever notice the difference in my own uses for this machine.

I'm not really sure. I'm just going to do it because I'm already going for the 512GB SSD, and the processor upgrade should only be $100 or so. And it'll be my only Mac, so I just might as well do it.

Right. To me, the only really interesting question was: 256 or 512? Still mulling that over. If it had a pair of USB 3 ports (with any type of connector), it'd be an easy question. This may be a little bit more of a challenge to connect with, so I'm still thinking about 512...

Queuing for the new MacBook wouldn't be necessary. I don't think you're going to have a problem getting one. It's not an iPhone or an iPad.

I agree... and there's nothing overly new about it that should create a short supply... the screens have been out, the processors have been out... apple created the track pad so one would think they've stockpiled them. I think it'll be just like another release.

The huge factor you're going to have to contend with are the rabid beasts that are lined up to get their hands (wrists) on the Apple Watch. It's an entirely new demographic for Apple, and thus far from talking to people it's going to bring an entirely different type into the store. Could be very interesting. Thankfully I have no interest in the Watch, so I'm not going to have to deal with that mess.... but going to the store April 10 does have me concerned. I sure hope apple allows orders online before (for Macbook)

Yes that's right. I have absolutely no interest in the Apple Watch as well. I'll be getting the new MacBook too.

I was going to make that point last night, just thinking about numbers. I have no idea whether you're right about a new demographic or not, at least for the lower priced Watches. I would have guessed that it's the same old iPhone crowd, but I could be wrong. (Thinking...) I wonder if the Watch will create new iPhone buyers, people who are currently using Android, Windows or a "feature" phone?

How badly do you want it? How much of an inconvenience to you will it be to line up? I personally don't think it's a bad idea. Pretty sure there will be at least a few people with the same thought as you, especially if it's an Apple Store.

Well since the watch requires a phone it's going to create incremental market share. Just wonder how much.

sorry if it is a dumb question, but the new macbook will be available for purchase (/order) on april 10th, correct? [i don't live near a store but just wonder if april 10th is the date when i'll actually be able to order.]

the watch is pre-order, clearly, on that date.

i'm interested in replacing my 11" 2013 MBA (screen has a bit less real-estate than i need when connecting to remote machines).

my thought is the higher-rez retina display would allow me to view more of the screen of the machines i'm connecting to. however, maybe my thinking is misguided....

thank you!

Guess I'm gonna try my luck by just going into the Apple store on the evening of the 10th! Wish me luck!!

The watch isnt released until 4/24. So not sure what you mean here... Apple watch goes on pre order 4/10. Thats a big difference.

In nyc we love to que up so rest assured we will be lining up.

I have about 5 Apple stores in easy reach from where I live and work. I don't perceive a problem picking one up at any of them.

Well.... Since the 1.3GHz doesn't look like it will be available at launch day I won't be. I wonder how much more they will charge for it, and when it will be available. That's the only option I'm considering right now. I hope it's not more than $100. If it is... I won't get it.

Just buy/pre-order it online, that way you don't have to worry about lines.

I was assuming that they would have the store displays up for people to gawk at when pre-orders open up on 4/10. In any case, you're probably right about floor traffic and lines.

I think the poster meant that it won't be one of the models you can buy at the store, as you'll have to BTO it online.

Oh right, I see.

Personally I'm going for the 1.1Ghz, 256GB. I can't see the 1.2 and 1.3Ghz are really going to offer that much better performance for the extra cash.

And as for the memory, I'm only using 113GB of my MacBook Pro. If there was a 2TB option, I'd pay for it and be able to store all my movies and TV shows on there, but as no laptop has this capacity, I don't see the need to have any more than 256GB with all my movies on an external drive.

My first thought on the CPU was the same, but looking at the benchmarks at CPU Monkey I'm wondering if going up to the 1.3gHz would provide noticeable performance benefits.

Just order online - id never queue up, a total waste of my time.

I've never done it before but I think it might be kind of fun (from hanging out with others waiting). I'm ordering the 1.3GHz version so I won't be waiting in line.
