I'm so tired of this "students have less disposable income" excuse. You know, students aren't the only ones struggling in this age of "subscribe to 50 different services". Plenty of of families have "less" disposable income, how about throwing us a bone as well.

I'm already paying for the family music plan and the family iCloud storage plan so, that's $17.98/month to Apple. My wife recently lost her job so we are down to 1 income and had to cancel around 6-7 services to save money, including Apple News+. We can't afford to take on any more bills right now so TV+ is a no go but, sure, give the students only paying $5 free access.

I’ve noticed a lot co comments here that say or imply AppleTV+ is free for students. It is not. It’s $5. That it comes with something that typically costs more than $5 does not make it free - you still pay $5 to get it.

Come on man, you are splitting hairs here. For any student who was already paying for the music service, TV+ is being added at no additional charge. Essentially a "free" add-on.

Promotions typically target groups who can afford to pay full price later. The goal is to get students hooked on the content so when they have a full time job the service feels necessary. They are not doing students “a solid.” They are taking advantage of their situation.

No, you’re right. “It’s free with purchase.”

It’s an odd move that kind of devalues atv. Free with iPhone and other hardware is one thing but free for 4.99 a month music subs is basically just giving it away.

More and more atv simply looks like a play to get people to use the app and buy channels.

Getting people to buy Channels? Idk. Apple invested a LOT of money into ATV+. I don’t think they’re expecting to recoup that money from people buying “Channels” Lol.

I am sorry, but in this case (and I understand and share your pain) AppleTV+ is the least of your problems.....

I mean even at 5$ was a no go for me when I struggling...

If I paid for a year of Apple Music already and then out of the blue Apple gives me something else, that something else is free because I didnt pay a cent for it.

You can't pay for student memberships annually. They are month-to-month.

Captain Pedantic away.

If you pay for something and someone gives you something than... you didn’t pay for it? o_O It may be a better value, but it’s not free.

Does anyone know if you are a staff member at a university - do you qualify for this as well? or is it just for actual students?

If that’s the case they may as well make it free with any Apple sub. News. Music. Arcade.

And hope that some of those buy channels or want to pay to see season two of morning show.
This would actually be a more effective approach IMO not mention pushing their own office apps essentially being a solid alternative to googles services.

Smart move. Get the students addicted and used to it. They will pay $5 a month once they start working and have income coming in.

Students aren't stupid. They recognize that Netflix, HBO, and Disney all destroy this service.

Um... How about those of us paying for a $15 monthly plan? ;)

AppleCare+
iCloud storage
Apple Music

Definitely feeling a case of Apple subscription fatigue here...

I think it's time for the rest of us to go back to school and register as students.

I still don’t get this. It is $5 a month for a few original tv shows, and movies. That’s it. I was thinking it was going to be a full fledged streaming service like HULU or Netflix.
That’s why they are giving it away for free. No one in their right mind would subscribe otherwise.

Would it be wrong for me to say there is no such thing with Apple to be free or included with such a great bundle Tim Apple if true you finally did something right finally but I will believe it when I see it.

My reason for me to not believe this offer by now you would think when purchasing a iPhone the AirPod headphones would be included with purchase it least the none pro ones.

Considering my mom was interested in checking the service out, this is a nice perk to get with my student subscription to let her use. I don’t expect I will use it myself but will be nice to have.
