What it will also likely shoe is that there will also be some who will like the very slight and quick dimming effect as to them it adds some more slickness to their phone, as do various animations and parallax effects in the opinions of some. So certainly nothing even close to everyone wanting it one way or another, let alone any absolute guarantees of anything like that.

As I said, I'm willing to bet at least 65% of real world iphone users would -- if given a choice -- choose the Instant On. Anyone who thinks otherwise is free to meet me in Times Square with 1000 dollars ready to wager on it.

That fade is the reason I buy iPhones

Yeah, me too. That and the outgoing text sound that I can't hurt off (and that I heard from someone nearby at a wake last night -- no kidding), are what sold me on the iphone. The lack of notification light was just gravy.

So something that is subjective and is an opinion where someone likes a particular small effect is simply crazy while the same subjective opinion about not liking it is clearly the only "right" one? That's not how subjectivity works.

Heycal, if you are going to nitpick and want a poll on the subject, I'm going to need some demographics on you. You know, to make this scientific and all. How about age, region, amount of education, marriage status, etc.

This is something I have also noticed, and I have to say I actually prefer it. Less harsh on the eyes in dark environments. Nice little design feature :).

We've gotten him from along the lines of "I bet you every iPhone user will pick the instant on" to "I'm willing to bet at least 65% of real iPhone users would -- if given a choice -- choose the Instant On"

Why are you still fighting? You pretty much are just causing uproar just for the hell of it now, and I'm sick of it. Clearly people like the affect that this 'fade on' adds, and other companies have taken notice. I believe after the kitkat update on my GS4, a small fade on was added to the lock screen. If you really hate the fade on so much, go use your iPhone 4 again, switch to another company for smartphone, or see if there are any jailbreak tweaks to disable the message send sound that you are now beginning to complain about, and the dreaded, horrible, heinous, UNBEARABLE fade on affect.

I don't understand people like you. Just go and buy iPhone after iPhone, and every year go and pick out every single thing you hate about it, and present these frivolous issues in threads, watch as people don't have a problem with it, then you continue to fight and drag things on longer and longer, filling my inbox with nonsense. Just go get your iPhone 4 back out, find a Cydia tweak to disable these unbearable issues, or find a new freaking smartphone outside of the Apple ecosystem because obviously Apple is not for you.

I'm willing to wager actual cash on this "subjective" issue. Are you?

Nice try, stalker.

Then leave the thread.

Just for the record I am voting in support of the feature.

Sure, people "vote" in favor of it, but no one seems willing to wager on it.

Easy there Joe Bob. I didn't ask for your name, address, or social security number. I'm just trying to figure out what kind of person thinks this way. A little more information would be helpful. Quit acting like a little kid, and let's have a real discussion here.

For the record, I vote for the effect. My microseconds aren't as valuable as your $1000 ones.

Try and pry someone else's personal information from them, cyber stalker.

As for 'what kind of person thinks this way' do you mean a preference for Instant on versus dim-up? Actual, real world iphone users, that's what kind of people. The opinions of guys who hang around Apple product forums and their constant defense of All Things Iphone aren't representative of iphone users at large.

Don't worry your little head about it. I'm over you now. I was just trying to wrap my head around your misguided logic, but you're too stubborn to have a discussion on the matter. Enjoy your phone and your huge life problems.

Maybe you'll have better luck stalking someone on Facebook or something.

And I'd have better luck walking into a Scientology meeting and trying to convince them that Dianetics is nonsense. So I don't see the point of much further discussion here. If any of you Moonies actually believes that most real-world iphone users would prefer dim-up to Instant On enough to wager on it, let me know.

Maybe you guys can lobby for even more slowed down operations in future editions. Maybe dim up the home screen too, or perhaps slow down the movement between screens?

Really? Because people don't agree with you, you're going to make baseless assumptions about what those people want?

If you don't care about details, good for you. But I personally like a thoughtful, well-designed phone.

Again, somebody that disagrees with you doesn't care about details? Sigh...

You know how I could spend those .05 seconds? Not being annoyed by the inefficient and distracting dim effect on the iphone 6.

It's not inefficient. It's an intentional design decision that serves a purpose, even if it's a purpose that you don't want.

Perhaps not. Just one more stupid design choice by Apple. We can add it to the the long list of them...

Again... this is all your personal opinion.

I didn't go looking for the problem. It jumped out at me, and then I figured out what the problem was: a distracting and annoying delay before the time was fully illuminating. I seriously thought my phone was defective.

I realize iPhone users have low standards when it comes to many such things, but at least Apple could try a little.

And you continue with the hyperbole and faulty logic. It's your problem if you get distracted by the fade-in, and nobody else's. Jailbreak or switch to Android if it's such a big issue. And for the third time, somebody disagreeing with you does NOT mean they have lower standards.

Yes, pointing out weaknesses and flaws is "whining". God forbid someone points out the Emperor has no clothes.

iPhone does some things well, many things poorly. If you only want to hear the good, go hang around on www.apple.com instead of here.

No, emphatically claiming that something is a flaw when most people don't view it in such a way is whining. Continuously claiming that your opinion is fact and trying to dismiss other viewpoints is most certainly whining. And why should people go to a different site just because they feel differently than you do? This is a forum dedicated to Apple products, why on earth do you think that people would hang around here if they though that the "iPhone does some things well, many things poorly"? You're the one nitpicking and complaining about something that most people don't care about, when you very well could find another device that better suits your needs.

The weakness and flaw is the dim-up effect. Have you not been following along? When one presses the power key to find out what time it is, and they have to wait even a fraction of a second and watch the annoying dimming up, THAT is a weakness.

What iphone weaknesses and flaws are you people going to defend next, the outgoing text message sound that can't be turned off? The lack of a notification light? What?

Again, it is not a flaw to most people. You're not going to get anywhere as long as you keep saying that. You're the only one that has a vendetta against this little effect.

The failure to acknowledge obvious and basic flaws and weaknesses of the iphone just because Apple made it is insane.

Then put your money where your mouth is, sell your iPhone, and buy something that suits your needs. Does your complaining make you any happier about owning a device full of obvious and basic flaws?

Yeah, I'm literally insane because I point out flaws in the iphone.

Sounds like a guy whose afraid to put his money where his mouth is… If you had the conviction of your beliefs, you wouldn't be afraid to wager on them. You must realize I'm right about what most people would choose, but why admit that when you can just attack me personally instead?

Look, when people say they don't care, they probably don't care. You're the only person in this thread that cares enough about such a minor thing to even have "conviction of your beliefs", so good luck trying to get anybody else to rise above general apathy. I seriously wouldn't care if Apple released iOS 8.1.3 today with the sole purpose of making the lock screen instant-on.

As I mentioned before, feel free to do an actual poll (again despite the fact that it would still be statistically insignificant either way) and provide actual results backed by evidence for us all to know.

That said, it doesn't change the fact that it's still something subjective. It's like asking whether or not someone might like when it rains, even if most people you happen to talk to prefer no rain it doesn't mean that rain is bad or wrong and that the responses are somehow objective.

This is a forum dedicated to Apple products, why on earth do you think that people would hang around here if they though that the "iPhone does some things well, many things poorly"?

Exactly the problem. And thus my analogy to the futility of arguing with Scientologists about Dianetics. Moonies can't be swayed by logic or reasoning, and have no objectivity.

Lack of a notification light or being able to change or turn off the IM sound is a much bigger deal than the fade in light effect IMO. I'm starting to wonder if you have a defective unit as it's so minor I can't even imagine anyone being bothered by it. You wasted more time making a post about it than the total amount of time you will spend waiting on it in your entire life.

For the record, my phone stays on silent and in my pocket so the other issues are non-issues for me, but I can at least see why those features might be useful to others.

So everyone who posts on this forum is brainwashed? :D

I don't think anyone is saying they think the fade is better in a more efficient way than instant on. It's all a matter of opinion. A concept you don't seem to grasp. The fade is so short. That what I imo gain in beautiful design is more than what I loose in efficiency. That's why I don't care that the fade is there. Since it's just adding to the immersion of a well crafted system. If it affected me in any way of using my phone then I would complain. And why even start the thread knowing no one might possibly agree with you since we are all in your opinion Apple fanboys?

I'm not sure why people make statements like this…

Of course the lack of a notification light and inability to turn off sounds is a much bigger problem. Where did I ever suggest this flaw was in league with the real egregious ones?

I'm just pointing out a weakness of the design, a weakness I thought was a glitch at first. Yes, it pales in comparision to bigger flaws, but so what? It's still noticable.

So everyone who posts on this forum is brainwashed? :D

About 90% seem that way, yes.

So you think 90% of the people on this forum are brainwashed?

Let's get this straight- you come in here and declare that your viewpoints are fact- anyone disagreeing with you obviously pays no attention to detail and/or is cult-like in their reverence of Apple.

I think you've brainwashed yourself into thinking that your opinions are anything more than just that... your opinions.

Stop feeding him. It's obvious he's not being serious at this point.

You're the one that brought them up, no?

This is so minor, I don't even care if they "fix" it. I'd rather they add the ability to customize the IM sound. As big as they are, they still have limited resources.

Yes, I brought up even more important flaws related to the iphone. Those should be fixed first. So... What is your point? If there is a bigger problem it means a smaller problem shouldn't be mentioned?
