Success: 2006 Mac Pro upgraded - 2 x Xeon 5355 Quad-cores!

When I emailed them they replied saying my registration had gone into their spam so it's probably the same for you. Just contact them and say you haven't heard.
I haven't done the firmware update because I'm not sure if I need to. I'm happy for now running 10.6.8 and I don't know what advantage I'll gain.
Perhaps someone can tell me.

Is the firmware update necessary? All seems to work ok. I did register with netkas org to get the tool but they haven't accepted me yet.

I noticed slightly better Geekbench scores with the firmware upgrade to 2,1. I have had no issues with the firmware update from Netkas. You probably need to do one more reboot after the update so the second processor is recognized.

I think my processors were recognised straight away. This is what my overview says

I just wonder if the firmware update will have any noticeable benefit for my everyday use in Logic etc.

Not likely. It just added Intel microcode patches for the "Clovertown" CPUs introduced after the MacPro1,1 for better CPU identification.
 
Is there a processor with a clock speed faster than 3GHz that will work in the 1.1? My setup came stock with two dual core 3.0 processors. Additional cores will likely not help with some of the poorly-written software that I am using (one publisher has told me that they are only using 3 cores, for example).
