Actually, it looks like registration is from 11:30-12, and the press conference is from 12-1.

Interesting! I wonder what it could be?

A music service? iPods?;)

I don't have a clue.

Does anyone know what kind of announcement Apple made the last time they requested a press conference on a weekend? Is this a big deal?

Cool. Whatever it is, I hope it kicks @$$. Lets not get our hopes up, though, like we did for the iPod... We all thought it was going to be something completely different...

Actually, my guess is that it's just a simple event promoting Quicktime streaming.

Of course, it could be the video ipod running dual 970s with gigawire, airport extreme+, and bluetooth 2.

Ok... I'm gonna go with arn on this one.

I assume you're suggesting that it's somewhere between the quicktime streaming and the video ipod with airport extreme+.;)

Looks like FCP4!!

I wonder how long it will be before they come out with an 'express' version...

Details

In an invitation sent to select journalists on Thursday, Apple announced a press conference to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) event held in the city from April 7-10.

While details of what the company will discuss were not revealed, the invitation was very clear in its focus. "Please join Apple for a press conference at NAB 2003 to learn about Apple's strategic direction for digital video production technologies," the invitation reads.

Sounds to me like something more then QuickTime streaming demo. If they are going to talk about the direction of their Digital Video Technologies, to me that clearly implies programs such as FCP, and DVD SP, shake, Logic, etc etc.

As well, if it is to discuss the future, FCP 3 is the present, not the future. So even if it's not to discuss FCP 4 specifically, I thinks it's safe to say that we'll get a much cleare picture of what to expect in the future.

I am thinking they will anounce the music service especially given the info regarding the .mac password changing on the 10th.

and I am jumping on your case when not necessary.

but I agree the music thing and the streamling of .mac and shopping service points to introduction of music service built into .mac

Not so fast

Actually, Apple's website shows "An Insider's Look at Apple's Digital Video Strategy" from 3:00 - 5:00 Pacific Time. (link ) So, I'm not sure, but the event from 12:00 - 1:00 Pacific Time may be something else all together.

Does anyone know - Is the NAB for video broadcasters only or is it also for audio broadcasters? If it is for audio broadcasters as well, maybe we could see something about a new iPod or Apple music service.

What do you guys think?

I don't think they'll be doing anything with the 970 quite yet. Possible, but not likely. It's probably about Final Cut Pro 4 and integration with Panasonic's new AG-DV100 and Panasonic's integration of Firewire800 into it's DVCPRO50 line of cameras and decks.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Would they release FCP4 on a Sunday?

Im going to this event. It is the Final Cut unveiling. And it is from 3 to 5. It is going to be huge. I cant wait till you guys see what is in store.

Should be big

The 12:00 to 1:00 PM meeting is for the press, the meeting later on, according to the Apple Link above, is for a general audience, or the general public.

To me it would make sense that at 12:00 to 1:00 they'll announce something, which the press requires just the basics, not a lot of fancy demos and in depth demonstrations.

The later meeting for the general public is from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, it's 2 hours, probably to allow time for the added demos, and what not that the public will want to see. It's 2 horus, keep in mind that's the normal length of a major Apple Keynote, so you can really cover alot there, and get into some good depth. Wish I could be there :)

Also, at the convention center where the 2nd meeting will be held, it has theatre space that can hold up to 4800 people, sounds like it could be big to me, hopefully were not just getting our hopes up :)

Yay, glad to say that I'm that 'one user'.

I thought it interesting that it states that theres a bus from the Panasonic conference to Apples - which means that those attending the Panasonic one will find the Apple one equally as useful. So I agree that its FCP4 - with support for Panasonic device (as hinted in the past).

We'll soon find out in a few hours :)
