This may be too broad of a question, no one could possibly know, etc., but I'll give it a shot anyway. I'm in central NJ (Princeton), and I've been having a hell of a time trying to get a 16gb iPhone (I originally had my heart set on black, but after seeing the white, it's really a tossup and I'll get either one). If I want to finally get one tomorrow, what is the best course of action to take?

I would try the Apple store in Freehold Mall. I got one there on Day 1, and they had TONS, they didn't expect to sell out this weekend, and that was even after having sold 400-500 on Friday.

I was originally gonna go to Freehold today, but I checked the Apple availability indicator last night and it said they wouldn't have any today. So do you think it seems like Freehold has satisfied the majority of the early adopter demand? If I get there tomorrow around opening, is it pretty likely that I'll be able to get one, even if I have to wait in line for a little while?

At willow bend mall in plano, tx. I got here around 9:15am and was about 50th in line. The line now is 300+ deep. I'm almost to the front of the store. It is noon right now.

Anyone have updates from Willow Bend or other DFW area stores?

At least Willow Bend seems to have been running faster this morning. Assuming they opened at the usual Sunday time of 11AM, almost 50 in an hour is a big improvement to the <10 an hour they were processing Saturday morning.

Seems to me the lines at Apple stores are constantly in the hundreds. Anyone anticipate when this will ever die down? A week?

I would expect it to start winding down middle of this week. As more and more shipments get in...more and more people will get their phones, so there will simply be less people to line up. This all probably would have been a lot better if Apple had launched this on a Monday instead of Friday I imagine.

I would say...whatever store you are going to...get there earlier than you have been. Seems like the lines really start to build about 1.5-2 hours before opening on the weekend. The Oakbrook line hovered around 30-40 people until 9-9:30....then quickly built up to farther than I could see (my guess is at least 200 people).

The opening times are exactly what the website says unless the store manager decides to open earlier (an on-the-spot decision). I think they'll only do that if the have a very large number of people and all their staff are there. Even with 200+ people, Oakbrook opened at the scheduled time of 11am.

Oh btw....Oakbrook was maintaining a separate line for People not there for the iPhone. If you wanted to look around they let people in....if they needed assistance they had to wait in a small line to the left of the main entrance till a person was available to help them. They were stopping everyone trying to enter and asking them what they were there for...which pissed off a couple of people.

Oh and they were also keeping one of the two main doors locked...to control access. This lead to an old guy banging his head straight into the glass. So before you try to open what you think is an open door....push first before leading with your head.

I just returned from the Apple store at Southpointe Mall in Durham, NC. Line was still around 10 deep and you had to stand in line regardless of whether you were buying an iPhone or not.

Tried Southlake (Tarrant County) Friday night, Saturday and today (1:45). Each time the line was at least 100 deep. This store is fairly small so it probably does not handle more than 10 at a time. I will drive by tomorrow at 7:00 to check the line, if it's less than 20 long I will give it a shot, they won't open until 10:00 am.

I went to the Apple Store on Michigan Ave last nite at about 8ish to pick up a case for my iPhone 3G and there was a line of about maybe 20 or so. If you were buying an iPhone you had to wait in line otherwise you were able to just walk in without question.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get there until about 30 minutes before opening, but if I'm willing to wait in a line, I should be able to eventually get one, right? I'll be going to an Apple store, and they typically have enough stock to go around don't they?

Oak brook ran out of 16 blacks Friday around 9pm-ish. They got them in again and ran out again. When I called later today they were running very low on 8 black and said they doubt they have enought 16 white. They shut the line down at some point.

This is getting really difficult. Still trying to get a phone for my husband. Every time I get in line, they run out or my timeing is bad. Tomorrow we're going to change the account to make me the account holder so I can just go buy his darned phone myself. Unfortunately, by the time I talk to AT&T to do this, I'll miss my morning line placement.

It's getting tireing. Plus I have a light leak near my 16 black's bezel so I may try to swap. LOL

Pleasanton, CA

I went to Stoneridge mall to try my luck. When I got there, there was about 30 people ahead of me. While in line I called the store and asked how their inventory looked, and he said he's standing next to a big tower of them in the back and that they have lots.

The guy that was overseeing the crowd kept trying to discourage people that were joining the line and said "We did a count, and up to that girl over there is mainly how much we have left, so most likely you guys here wont be getting a phone."

I literally told him that he's full of it and that I'm going to press my luck. Lo and behold, I got in there and got my aimed 16GB White iPhone. I gave him a dirty look on my way out because he drove so many people away that could have gotten an iPhone if they stayed.

Total wait time + purchase + activation = 1 hour and 15 minutes, starting at 12:45pm

This photo is the line at Menlo Park Mall, Edison NJ - about 5:00 p.m. Sunday (was there to watch a movie). Still a huge line for the iPhone (about 45 deep), and a separate, smaller line for non-iPhone purchases.

Photo taken with my 16GB iPhone 3G Black. Yes, I was getting dirty looks from the crowd. :)

Three days now. This is sheer madness.

Locking that door during business hours is illegal...in California, at least.

Menlo Park will allegedly have 8gb and 16gb phones for Monday morning, according to the availability tool:

Was in Charlotte, NC visiting a friend this weekend and we decided to walk by the Apple Store in Southpark Mall around 3pm just to check out the scene.

Not only was there a line to buy iPhones (1.5 hour wait), but there was a separate line just to get in the store to buy anything else. As an Apple shareholder, I couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. :D

They only have 8 GB black and 16 GB white iphone 3gs...they are out of black 16 GB...but most Apple stores will have all stock tommorrow when UPS delivers.

white's fine with me. and if they're out by the time it's my turn, then i guess i'm hanging out at the mall tomorrow until UPS comes! :D

edit: this is probably too much to hope, but is there wifi in the vicinity of the Apple store?

Every Apple Store has open WiFi. Just camp out close to the store or in the store if possible.

Here is The Grove in Los Angeles at 3 pm on Sunday.

They gave out umbrellas to help protect people from the sun. It was a nice, hot day today (as usual)

Oh rad. So I'll be bringing my laptop and charger, and if I have to wait for a shipment, I'll just set up camp and actually get some work done. Imagine that, getting paid to wait in line for a phone :D
