Yeah it's not like Apple regularly have hidden meanings in dates and times or anything
I have a thought:
They released 3.0 for existing iPhones 2 days before the 3GS was released. Now I'm no dummy, so I know that Apple products are often released on Tuesday. Maybe 4.0 final will release on this date, July 4, and then the iPhone G4 2 days later, on Tuesday.
I don't know anything about this, that is just a piece of my own speculation.

This is the most logical explaination. You cannot deny that Apple uses calendar dates as hints to future releases. But, this theory clashes with the early-June release rumors that have been circulating.
AT&T would suck so bad if they blocked June vacations just to release the iPhone the first week of July. Then again, some AT&T Mobility employees have denied the June vacation block.
Who knows...it's nebulous.
Apple must be laughing their rear ends off, when they see posts like this.
That they do... July 4th is just Independence day, nothing fancy and it is not a Friday or Tuesday.
Perhaps Apple is trying to tell Americans that they will get their independence from needing to jailbreak.
maybe in the next preview they will Bastille Day (july 14th) thats frances independence day. im not french but DUH July 4th come on

This is my favorite theory yet, although I'm sure it couldn't be further from the truth. They are well on their way to providing the features for which I've been jailbroken. Can't wait for next month!
From the look of things... they aren't even close to hitting the reasons I jailbreak.
Folders is all they got for me. I still need StatusNotifier, LockInfo, SBSettings.
Maybe it's not referencing the specific date of July 4th, but July 4th weekend. I could see the iPhone being released on the Friday of July 4th weekend. It could work.
Heh, that would suck IMO. Almost another month of waiting. Plus ATT has called off the month of June for vacations. Talked to a few local ATT reps who confirmed they aren't allowed to put in for time off.

It will release possibly on a friday, which is what all previous iphones have been released on that day.
