In all honesty it was the battery life improvements that finally convinced me to get an iPhone and move away from the iPod Touch. I'm a light phone user, a few calls and texts in a day at most, and as I walk to work it's mainly used as an iPod when I'm out and about. Yet I'm getting three to four days between charges at the moment, more than my wife's getting out of her Motorola flip phone.

I've had a few smartphones over the years and they've all had the same problem: I could never be quite sure if I'd make it to the next charge. With the iPhone that's not an issue. On a related topic I really think the phone industry at large needs to copy Apple's option of having a percentage figure for remaining battery life. It makes life SO much easier than dealing with the traditional battery icon.

man I dont' know how u guys are getting these numbers....

the most I can get out of my phone is 5 hr usage time and about 12 hr standby, and I'm at about 15% then.

I almost want to take my phone to apple store and get a replacement.

according to your signature, you have a 3GS. Those numbers posted earlier are for iPhone 4.

Jobs really nailed it on the head when he said the iPhone 4's battery life would be drastically increased. After all, the battery IS the largest single component in the phone now.
YES!! Its so nice to be able to go places without having to carry that damn charger with me.

What kind of settings do you have, and how is your 3G coverage?

If you have bad 3G coverage, more battery is going to be used trying to keep your phone well connected.

I'm on my iPhone constantly, and I get stellar battery life. Similar to what's been posted here. I have my brightness at about 40%, autobrightness on, wifi always on, Bluetooth on about half the time. It helps that I'm in a really good area for AT&T's 3G.

I have great 3g coverage wherever I go. D.C metro seems to have great coverage as far as i can tell.

I have push off, brightness at a little below half way mark with auto dim off, location services on, bluetooth off. Wifi is on all day and connected to it a lot of time. I face time at least an hr a day, use pulse facebook email and surf on safari throughout the day. it lasts me all day, of usage, but I still think that I should be getting better battery life. Also I restored from previous backup when I first got the iphoen 4, however after I saw what everyone was getting out of the battery I have restored as new phone and yesterday was my first day restored as a new phone adn still got only 5hr usage.

Hmm OP I think you glitches the system, you can charge the battery not to 100% and it will still show the same standby time. I did it with my 3GS. For example I can use my phone around 50% charge and let it drain to a few %, then charge it back to 50% and do the same again....it won't reset it back to 0 0. Not to flame you op but i'm not sure I believe those stats from 1 full charge.

I restored from a backup too. Your usage sounds similar to mine, minus the FaceTime, plus several other apps and I have push on one of my e-mail accounts.

I don't know what to tell you. I think you should be getting more than 5 hours a day too. I got more than that with my 3GS!

Once i did a full cycle on my iPhone 4 it was rediculous..

I spend the whole day now and finish at like 75% battery life....

Just let your iPhone 4's battery drain down to like 5-10%

then do a full charge on it over night and don't touch it, let it sit there and charge all night until morning and it will unlock it's true potential...

are you doing a full cycle charge on it?

Let it drain down to about 5-10% then Charge it over night, and DON'T TOUCH IT while it's charging. Let it sit there the whole night.

How much battery would bluetooth actually drain if turned on but not in use?

I am planning to get an IP4 when it is released in Australia and will be connecting it to my wireless bluetooth head unit in my car. I want to leave it on because the car head unit automatically connects to the phone when the ignition/power it turned on.

Agree.

Kinda makes ya think the average age of a user on these forums is about twelve.

If it's been plugged in since it was last fully charged, it says so.

Ditto on all this. Got 9.5 hours of usage and 36 hours of standby myself! Very impressed with what's been done for the battery.

Wow, so what is wrong with my battery?

I am at 66% and only 2 hours and 40 minutes of Usage, 5+ hours of stand-by.

Why does mine suck?

I feel like a broken record. Without stating what you’re doing for that usage, no one can tell you whether it’s good or bad. If you were surfing on 3G, that’s great battery life. See my post above.

Khryz...

There are TONS of variables. What kind of usage, what services are being used (push, brightness, location, etc), all sorts of things.

I wasn't getting great battery life until I "set up as new" and did a full discharge/charge cycle...twice.

Have you tried that?
