Just got an email through from the IMAX in London to say that they're showing Superman Returns in 3D from 14 July... Worth seeing on a giant screen in 3D?

And anyone in London fancy going along? No Pimms though
I may be up for that. I'll see what the Entertainments Manager says. You never know, he may even want to come himself :)

Let me remind people here.

This is superman we are talking about, the worst superhero ever. Even aquaman is better than superman.

http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=3&id=36723

That would be a real superhero movie.

Red Son would be the only good superman (as main character) movie that could exist.

I loves me some Batman: Hush

Nothing's wrong with Superman. Worse than Aquaman? You must be smoking something :p

Smallville isn't too bad, and there have been many good incarnations of Superman.

Spider-Man is still my favorite superhero though.

Well, I just saw Superman Returns last night and I have to say it was definitely a good movie - but I wouldn't call it spectacular. I found it was a little light on action, and I didn't care for the ending much. There were a few plot issues as well, but hey, what movie isn't without those nowadays... ;)

At the end of the day, I liked Batman Begins and X-Men III more than Superman Returns (and I enjoyed X-2 and X-Men beter than X-Men III for the record), but it probably comes down to personal preference. For me, Superman is just too powerful as a superhero. It really takes the fun out of things, and you know that he's always going to win, no matter what the challenge. As a result, there was a continual lack of suspense for me while I was watching it.

A good movie though, and Singer did a fine job IMO. I just wasn't blown away, that's all. Perhaps I'm desensitized, but there were no jaw-dropping, tell-your-friends-about-it scenes for me...

As I've said elsewhere though, all the above being said, Pirates of the Caribbean will crush it in the box office this summer. Mark my words.

Well, every superhero has the same ending.. thats why they're 'superheroes'. You never see Batman, Spiderman, etc. dying do you? ;) I just saw Superman Returns and it was FANTASTIC. Batman begins bored me to death for some reason.. dunno why.. and its not like I'm a big fan of any superhero - comic/movie whatever. This one was terrific though, and man those scenes were like whoah!!!!

And everytime i heard the music start (when he starts to change into the supe costume) I got all excited like a little kid :D

Wow, that movie was awesome.

The ending just ticked me off though. Clark Kent and Lois Lane are destined to be together- any other way is heresy!

I want a sequel in which Richard gets squished and Clark ends up with Lois.

I felt like a little kid again ever since seeing Superman I for the first time. It felt the same way with Superman Returns... right at the opening credits. Just phenomenal! The movie felt like it picks up where II left off... we'll just forget III and IV ever existed.

All the special effects were solid on screen and seemed effortless. The acting from Brandon and Kate were dead on and at times, Brandon's voice reminded me of Christopher Reeve's.

My favorite scene has got to be the end when Superman whispers in the bedroom. *And when he puts his hand over his son's forehead, the scene was so powerful, especially how Superman's silhouetted head was framed against the background. It was just such a powerful scene. Truly fantastic!*

I could be into that... just for the huge screen & 3D. I'll have more than likely seen it by then (planning to go on the Wednesday of release week - gotta love Orange Wednesdays!) but it'll cool to see at an IMAX.

*Poor Captain Jack Impersonation On* No Pimms? Why No Pimms? Where do Pimms Go?*Poor Captain Jack Impersonation Off*

Obviously someone hasn't been following Infinite Crisis. :/

Lois dies a lot in Infinite Crisis

eh, How many robins have there been? Or that girl in Wargames that created the crisis that died (can't remember name of her) at the hands of black mask

Or superboy's death

Or Hal Jordan dying (albeit he became the spectre)

Hell didn't Hal Jordan kill almost all of the other green lanters?

I am seeing it tomorrow for the first time in IMAX 3D

saw it last night and thought it was pretty darn good. Plenty of action, though not as much as i was anticipating. Its much more of a story being told than just an action packed super hero movie. The scene with the airplane/spaceshuttle is fantastic. I got goose bumps.

As far as Aquaman being a better superhero movie than superman... only if Vinnie Chase from Entourage is the lead.;)

I enjoyed it. It didn't wow me but it was good. Something about it was a tad slow. The Clark Kent scenes were my favorite and probably the most well done. I guess it's hard for Superman to wow though, because he's Superman.

me, personally.. i was not really into the superman movies. i've always been a spiderman guy.

but this movie absolutely blew me away.

i really really loved it and thought they did a fantastic job. i will definitely be going to see it a 2nd, 3rd, and probly a 4th time. up until now spiderman 1 and batman begins were my 2 fav superhero movies... and i think this edges out batman begins for my all time fav. what a movie!

here's one flaw i kept thinking the whole movie, but it did not ruin it for me.. it was necessary for the flow of the movie: *** superman was gone for 5 years, and he did not know lois was pregnant. so it would have taken 9 months for the kids birth. so the kid would have definitely been just over 4 years old. that kid was closer to 10. however, it was necessary to have an older child for the good of the movie, because at 4, lets face it, they are still pretty much babies. just a little flaw i picked up. still loved the movie though. ***

You all may laugh when I tell you this but. Im so gutted, Ive been waiting an age for Superman Returns, he's my favourite SuperHero.

Im from the UK, and I did not pay attention to the website I was looking at for titbitts about the film, the video podcasts from iTunes, I was looking forward to watching this on the 28th June, how silly am I? Even more so when i got about 20 of my work mates to come and watch it with me, we were all set to watch it, and then two days before, someone said it wasnt out until July. Oops egg on my face or what.

Well, the countdown has restarted and i cant wait. Now If i can just convince then to dress up for it :D

I thought the acting in this movie was really good. Kevin Spacey is an amazing Lex Luthor and Brandon Routh did an amazing job playing the lead role as Superman/Clark Kent.

The story IMO ruined this movie. I don't want to spoil anything (or put it in white text) so I'll just leave it at that. If it wasn't for the poor storyline, I would probably say this movie was the summer's best (that title still belonging to Cars....but I'm seeing Pirates on opening day, so things might change)

I saw the movie yesterday afternoon and was mostly happy with it. Bear in mind that I was eight years old when Superman: The Movie was released, and that movie's up there in the trinity (alongside Star Wars and Raiders). So Bryan Singer was facing an uphill battle with me from the get-go. ;)

He could have cut Parker Posey's character (Kitty) out of the movie completely. Don't get me wrong: I love Parker Posey, and she probably played that part about as well as it could be done. It was just a cheesy character to include in the story to begin with.

I was afraid at the beginning that Kevin Spacey was just playing off of Gene Hackman's somewhat campy version of Lex Luthor from the 1978 movie. But Spacey's version of Lex got progressively darker as the movie went on. The scene where Lex is just kicking the crap out of Superman really sealed the deal for me -- I think he really got the part right.

I was impressed with Kate Bosworth's Lois Lane. I guess this actress has been in some other stuff, but I didn't know her and wasn't sure what to expect. I thought she did great. On a strictly superficial level, I liked that her hair style in the movie reminded me of Lois' from the old television show.

As for Brandon Routh, I guess he did OK. He was trying a little too hard to mimic Christopher Reeve's Superman, in my opinion. I guess I would have liked to see him do something a little more original with the part, but I suppose that if he had, I'd probably be criticizing him for that too. Hopefully, he'll be a bit more comfortable in the suit by the time they get around to filming the next one.

I agree with your point (but it didn't ruin it for me either).

We saw it Friday night. Guess I was in the right frame of mind to watch it because I thought it was the best of the movie renderings, so far.

There's something which has bothered me though. Reeves (Steve) developed the Clark Kent as a clumbsy, four-eyed nerd whose every foible is forced, dummied down humility. I think the most believable Clark Kent was portrayed by the original, George Reaves. His Kent was simply a believable, stand up guy who worked as a reporter but there was no forced wimpy-ness to it. Maybe the director/producers have visited that and come up with their reasons. They escape me, fwiw. Anyway, I've enjoyed all of the movies, and this one the most.

I agree with everything you said pertaining to superman. Not that I agree with you about Batman. ;)

I thought it was fantastic and I too was excited each time the music began! I saw it in IMAX 3D and it was worth it!

I really, really enjoyed the movie.

One question though, did Superman ever have a kid in the comics, or did Brian Singer and co. pull that one totally out of left field?

For that matter, did Superman and Louis Lane ever get down?

I have to agree IMO he made the movie.

EDIT -

She was in Beyond the Sea with Kevin Spacey a few years ago.

It's been awhile since I've read the comics, but I don't remember him ever having a kid.

Lois and Clark are married in at least one of the many revisions of the story of Superman; there have been many changes to the continuity over the years, so I don't know if they're married in the current storyline. One presumes that the married Lois and Clark "got down". ;)
