Please, can you stop with the sarcastic comments, every time I see your name pop up, the phrase "Flogging a Dead Horse" springs to mind, maybe the first or second time it raised a chuckle, but after 50 plus times (not exact number BTW) I feel like ripping my own throat out and beating myself with it

It's probably a loose reference to Get Smart character Conrad Siegfried. And - at least if you're a fan of the show - it actually is kinda funny.

It wasn't taboo in the 60's; why should it be so now?

Plus, even if it wasn't a Siegfried reference, Kein appears to be the proper word - look it up!

I have a layman's question, sorry if this has been asked but I did not see anything similar. Does/will the suspected chip difference (Broadwell vs Skylake) really make a noticeable difference for a Graphics and photography driven user? I'm curious about short term and long-term.

I work with some very large files, sometimes designing larger than life murals in adobe. I use almost no animation but that could change in the future. I have a higher end 27" mac purchased about 1 year ago but I do work a lot from my laptop also while on site or traveling, so its a work horse.

My current laptop in 5 years old and I hate the thought of waiting an entire year to upgrade, 2 months, even 6 would be an option but a year or more sounds like toucher, my late 2009 just can't keep up with the software I use any more.

Any thoughts my tech friends?
I believe whatever they come out with next will be a good upgrade for you. Hopefully the rumors are correct, and it's only a month or two away.

You could even do fine with the 2013 15" MacBook Pro another poster mentioned - the late 2013 is preferred over the early 2013 model.

Just make sure it has at least 16GB of RAM (which is currently the max for a MacBook Pro). A discreet graphics chip (e.g. nVidia 750M) may or may not be a big help - it depends heavily on the graphics and photo software you use, as well as how you use it.

Unless you're planning on using more than 2 external monitors, or a 5K external monitor, there should be little benefit to waiting for a 2016 model. In the best case, I imagine the predicted new 2015 model might gain you 30-60 minutes of extra battery life over the late 2013/2014 model. And a 2016 model might gain an additional 30-90 minutes over that (if you're lucky). But 7 hours (under "normal" usage) for the late 2013 and 2014 models is already pretty good.

Your 2009 has virtually the same processor as my 2008. It's OK for general work, but any of the newer 15" models from late 2013, 2014, 2015, or 2016 will process nearly 5 times faster! Perhaps one will be 4.5 times faster, and another 5.5 times faster, but they're all in the same ballpark.

Really, the only decisions you have to make are how much storage space (SSD) you need and whether you need the discreet graphics processor (nVidia 750M or similar GPU).

First of all, congratulations to your nephew! I'd say he's got a great uncle who would buy him a gift like that!
I'll let you in on a little secret, Apple will sell computers to aunts to give as a graduation gifts also. His uncle, my husband, is not the one making the purchase.

This is a really stupid thing to say. (Remember that being racist was not a taboo? Or homophobic? Or …)

Also, just for information, proper German would read like this:

KEINE WITZE ERLAUBT IM APPLE-KAMPF!

This is a really stupid thing to say. (Remember that being racist was not a taboo? Or homophobic? Or …)

The belief that one's current generation is wiser (and smarter) than previous generations is a subtle form of ignorant arrogance that's ailed mankind for centuries ...
