Waiting to see the new device from Apple. I think the price will be around $200. Hope it will be released in some nice colors. Expecting a launch at WWDC.

BUT we are talking about a MICROWAVE here. There’s no accessibility issues, the microwave control is above the button to open the microwave.
Most microwaves are touchscreen, or flat panel.
Unless the thing has big push buttons or knobs, I prefer smart phone access.

it’s also good for frequent guests of the house who have no idea how to control anything, and certainly don’t have their smart phone connected to the smart home of someone else.

[If] this thing shows a super easy interface for turning off lights and changing temperatures, it has a purpose.
Yup, when someone in the home finds that commanding Siri using their voice don't work for them, and they don't have an iPhone or iPad that’s signed in and authorized to access the system, they wouldn't have to chase down someone in the house who has one (assuming that person is home).

I wonder how you are managing with the echo shows - I threw mine out and went back to a wall-mounted iPad.
It is an Amazon closed shop - you can't even run HomeAssistant decently on this thing.
If it wasn't for the smartthings hub and the echo show having a screen, I would have tossed them out long ago.

I feel you. I will try to use my decomissioned echo Show 15 in my vacation home, where I have an Alexa setup - but I don't know, whether this is worth my time.

Most people have very few smart home devices, let alone situations such as yours. I've seen numbers that only 25-35% of US households have any brand of smart home gadgets, of any sort. It'll do alright, but it's not going to be overly successful. Just like Amazon Show and Google Nest Hub are around, but not terribly common or popular. The most common device I've seen is the Amazon Echo pucks, and the nest speakers after that.

No one in our household or extended really uses FaceTime, so this doesn't make much sense for us...and you know Apple isn't going to support any other two-way video chat on these.. 🤷🏻‍♂️
I can agree that number of devices per home on average is small, I truly believe that number will only increase. As of now some there are some 70 millions smart home users with that number expected to increase to 100+ million by 2028. There are about 150 homes in my community and all but to have a Ring devices or something similar. I can't speak to every homes internal devices, but I can definitely speak to the amazing convenience. I can't tell you the last time I actually physically flipped a light switch. As for FaceTime, that's hit or miss. Either ifs for you, or not. I personally call all my family and close friends on FaceTime and I love doing so on the Vision Pro. For me and my family FaceTime conference calls are as normal as a cell phone bill. It makes figuring out family trips and events convenient, because the host can send out calendar reminders or schedule request, so everyone can be in on the planning and decision making if they so choose.
