Don't worry Apple will fix that for 2019, Tim & Co don't want to miss a single opportunity to nickel & dime the customer...

Q-6

Altitude sensors, UVA/B sensors, snow sensors, I am screwed hahaha

It is amazing how much the Microsoft packaging and boxes resemble Apples. But along with the sealed design and you take into account that the Surface devices are made by Pegatron and at least one of the Manufacturers for Apple is Pegatron and it all makes some sense.

Sorry the altitude sensors have tripped on your MBP, don't worry only $1400 to repair and we'd like to welcome you back next week :p

From what I can gather from Apples moisture sensors, living down south can trigger them off just from the humidity. We don't have a humidity problem here. More of a high altitude, UV, things tend to dry and crack problem hahaha.

I went ahead and picked up a SB2 i7/16/1T model. Got about $300 off with military discount and then saved like $50 each on the 4-year warranty and the surface hub on a business bundle package.

I generally work from home and in and around the Denver area. Luckily Apple doesn't include altitude sensors :)
Congrats and enjoy :)

That's an impressive bit of rock on the Horizon,

I'm not so sure after living in many hot and humid countries and Texas :) that it's the humidity directly. More like forced condensation, leave your laptop outside and it's fine.

But coming out of over AC chilled rooms or cars in to the heat and humidity is the likely the cause. We could easily tell it was bad when your sunglasses use to fog up

Now take a nice bit of chilled aluminium and step outside and your asking for trouble ala coke can or beer put it in a sleeve

Of course that is the all to common scenario here in the winter months. Warm house to cold, your glasses fog up. Get in the car to where you are going and your glasses fog up when you exit. Rinse and repeat on the way back. Not much of a way around it. Never had any real problem with it though to the best of my knowledge, except you worry with these new machines like the MBP that they make them so thin that the moisture has nowhere to go and doesn’t have evaporate.

One exception being when I got tied up longer than I thought I would be and had a Dell laptop out in the car. Temps where single digits that day. When I got back to the car I took it out of the bag and opened it up slowly without turning it on. Unfortunately the display had already spider webbed.

Now phones in the summer I have definitely had more an issue with. If you accidentally leave it in the center console for a hour or so and the sun is coming through the glass and hitting it. Don’t expect it to turn for about 30 mins, because all you will get is the thermometer.

I am on the fence about buying a new laptop/notebook. I am also anxious to know how you fare with your SB2. :)

So far so good. Screen is bright and beautiful, keyboard is a pleasure, trackpad is great.

I haven’t had the chance to do much with it yet other than setup and import some ride photos for a club website.

Hardly a long term review after 4 hours use hahaha :)

Well, first impressions are also important ;).
Keep us posted!

Yes, all I hear are great things about MS support for their hardware, and that is great.
But the problem is there is no MS store in Croatia, and there isn't even an official reseller in Croatia :(

I am in the same boat as you. I live in Romania and we are lacking an official reseller also. My solution was to order online from Ireland MS store (Microsoft.ie).
I had some problems with a surface device acquired this way, I had 5 minutes chat with a tech representative, she concluded that I`ll have to send in the device, she sent me a UPS coupon and next day the guy from the courier showed up at my door.
Two weeks later the same guy delivered me a brand new device.
If you need more details just pm me.

Just waiting for confirmation from Serif about drawing freehand raster art in Affinity Designer in Windows.

If I get a yes, I’ll wait on sales for the Surface Pro 6. Like the Affinity products, all third party software I use on the Mac is Windows compatible.

I figure start with a SP and ride this iMac until it dies.

I am a big fan of Affinity Photo. I need to have a look at Affinity Publisher to replace my Mac app.

Publisher is still beta, but I hope it’ll be available for Windows too (It looks amazingly amazing. What little I did with InDesign I really enjoyed). I will also post here in regard to the Designer response too.

I don’t mind double dipping for Affinity’s software, while I’ve been lagging in learning how to use their software, I am 1000% behind them for making viable alternatives to Adobe.

I also must admit seeing some black Surface products here is making my not-quite inner goth :p all warm and fuzzy too.

Unless I missed something, Affinity Publisher beta is already available for Mac and Windows? On my phone at the moment so I can’t check for sure, but I see Windows system requirements.....

Hardware

Windows-based PC with mouse or equivalent input device. DirectX 10-compatible Graphics Cards and above.

Memory

2GB RAM (4GB RAM recommended)

Hard Disk

593MB of available space; more during installation

Operating Systems (64 bit)

Windows 10
Windows 8.1
Windows 7 (Service Pack 1; Aero enabled)

I *really* wanted to see them release a Black Surface Book 2, I just bought the Surface Pro last August, so I don’t think I can justify that upgrade yet.

Inner goth, inner pirate, whatever it is it works for me

Affinity is great. I'm no graphics guy, but I've used almost everything, from Adobe to Sketch, Inkscape to Gimp. Often I need to create some simple placeholders, or small things so I can easily explain to vector pros what I needed from them.

Affinity Designer & Photo have been a dream come true. Those apps are powerful, easy to use, and the pricing is unbelievable.

I've bought Designer and Photo when they came out for Mac, but as soon as Windows versions came out, I've purchased those as well, even though I didn't use Windows at the time.

I've purchased those just to help Sans developers out. Never imagined I would eventually have use from those licences, and that Mac versions won't be used :)

Almost the same usage case here. I just haven’t dabbled with Photo and Designer enough to get the hang of them, but I like them a lot and you cannot beat those prices (unless sales). I haven’t used Adobe since 5.5, so I hope I can use Affinity for these half baked design classes I am taking next year. We’ll see.

Rrrrgh...right inner black heart for the win.:p

Ah, Publisher is Windows beta too? Nice. Not surprised.

I am just waiting to hear if freehand raster art is indeed something you can do in Designer (i.e. drawing and sketching freehand). Too many YouTube videos show folks importing their art, but one vid on YouTube mentioned you can draw in Designer (which makes perfect sense). So I asked the Serif folks if I can use the Surface Pen to do just that.

Thanks for posting the Windows system requirements for Publisher. Hmmm...so an 8gb, 256SSD would probably be the set up for me then. Eventually, black. :)

And now time to get ready to earn the money to bring one of these home.

And thank you both for posting your Affinity usage too.

It would appear so:

I will test this out soon enough. Looking forward to it :D

Nice! Thank you. I would hope more brushes will work with the Pen and Designer. Just trying to avoid purchasing software I am not sure I will use.

There is 30 day trial on Affinity products.

Looking forward to your tests. :)

I will just try to use the pen with Designer, nothing more, nothing less. If you need specific tasks, write them, and I will do my best to accommodate your request. But please keep in mind that I'm not an artist. I can't draw even a circle :D

Is it supposed to be 30? When I test drove the Windows version prior to purchase it only gave me 10

I am not a pro artist either. But I enjoy doodling and sketching. Just curious about if the Pen tilt mode works and how easy it is to draw lines.

Thank you very much in advance.
