now I see it.. I only checked the Black because thats the one I am getting. I guess the white ones are popular this time around!

Given this is Tim's first major launch as CEO, I wonder if he is putting his stamp on Apple given his experience as a supply-chain guru. It will be interesting to see if people feel it takes away from the allure of their shiny new Apple device to know that it isn't so exclusive after all.

Heck yes its goin to take away some of the allure for the ipad 3 it was so sweet having the ipad2 day 1 and seeing all the forums on here about people still waiting...haha kick rocks....but i guess that wont be the case anymore... :(

Just placed my order for a Black 16GB WiFi model less than an hour ago. Still shows a delivery date of the 16th.

Given the massive demand and shortages they had with the iPad2 last year and again with the iPhone 4S, it seems that Apple might have decided to up the initial production this time.

I have to say its pretty crazy that it hasn't sold out yet and Im extremely happy with Apple for making this such an easy process compared to last year (5PM, no preorders, resellers etc).

I don't mean to be rude by asking but would would someone plan to wait in line at an Apple Store if it's still available now for a launch day preorder?

Don't worry. All models will almost surely be on backorder before the release next week. It hasn't even been 24 hours since pre-ordering began and dates have already slipped on a couple of models (with almost a week wait if you factor in the difference between shipping on the 19th -- from China -- and delivering on the 16th). And for most of yesterday, the online store was too overloaded to even accept orders. By this time next week, there will probably be at least a couple weeks wait for online orders.

Or maybe Tim Cook decided to make the supply chain magical this time instead of the iPad ;)

It looks like they're doing the right thing. This is my 4th iDevice and every one except this one was such a pain in the ass to get. I was wondering if Apple would ever get on the ball with these annoying launches.
