Hey, just a question...... my mother has an iphone 5 and I am giving her my old iphone 6. Whats the best way to get her set up.

I was just going to pull the sim card from her 5 and stick in in the 6, but will that import her contact too?

Or should i just back up her 5, swap sim cards, then set up the iphone 6 as new and then restore?

Sorry for the question, but i dont do this very often.

Thanks !!

If it matters, her 5 is currently on my family plan, so that's why i was going to just do the sim card swap.

The contacts are not stored on the SIM card so backing up your Mom's iPhone 5 and then restoring that backup to the iPhone 6 would work. However, unless you intend to maintain ownership of the iPhone 6, you'll need to remove "Find my iPhone" and clear your Apple ID from it. If you do that, then you'll need to set the 6 up as new for your Mom. You can always then sync her contacts to the phone by using iCloud.

Use iCloud to sync contacts. iPhones don't store contacts into SIM cards.

I have done the same thing using iTunes on the computer. Make sure both phones are on the same iOS version and back up both phones. Then set up the 6 as a new phone and then restore it from your mothers back up. Everything, apps, contacts, music, photos, settings, etc will move to the 6. Will have to redo fingerprints and passwords in the apps.

Just one question since you did not mention it…which carrier are you with?

Just remember the last iOS available to the 5 is iOS 10. If the 6 is on 11 already then you will have an issue
