Tim Cook's Apple that relies on teenagers and others to respond to his fashion advertising instead of technical innovation, functionality, and quality.
I was looking at the comments on a review of a certain large portrait-style monitor. One that stuck out (among many similar comments) was a purported software developer who said something to the effect of "This monitor is amazing and would increase my productivity immensely. Unfortunately, I'll wait until some other manufacturer builds something similar that doesn't have an ugly black plastic back."

That same type of comment can be seen in these forums for pretty much every non-Apple monitor that gets reviewed.

Tim Cook knows his audience.

Apple better hurry and implement ChatGPT or something similar into its ecosystem, this is not something you want to be late on.
On the contrary a company as large as Apple would be the last company to want to rush into this before it’s polished. If Microsoft does something bad people will care far less than if apple did.

Soon all humans will talk to each other in the exact same style and choice of word as an automated telephone customer service. Then later they can be simplified to use api and protobuff messages. Eventually we don’t need to communicate to each other with words or voice but simply electronic signal via common api wirelessly. How great! /s

I can totally see words no longer are authentic (like photo today). Everything you see electronically have been enhanced or augmented. Words won’t hold up in court anymore because you can say those were edited by a computer.

And someone who used the tone feature sending a message to friends and family members who will no longer understand the message because those people themselves don’t talk like that. (Think immigrants.) what a brave new world…
Less human interaction? Count me in!

I think it's important to consider how this shift in communication could create both new opportunities and new challenges. We could take advantage of automated communication to disseminate facts and figures quickly and accurately, and could use it to process customer requests and inquiries in an efficient manner. However, it could also lead to misunderstandings and the loss of a personal connection with people. We must be aware of these risks and work to create solutions that allow us to take advantage of the benefits without sacrificing the important human connection.
Misunderstandings and personal connection are already missing from society thanks to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.

'I see you are writing a message. Would you like me to spell check it and sell it to a data broker?'

How cynical of you that you don’t think apple is doing the same but internally

The third function, Tone, is more clever. It's designed to make it easier for users to communicate more effectively by allowing Bing to act as editor and reword text to fit a desired tone.
Useful! Again, coming from someone who initially hated AI, but, this would be a lifesaver to keep my signature* tone consistent wherever I type.

*a tone which hundreds of other users on this forum possess

But sir, I didn't type this message! My bing chatbot did it for me! 😬

Microsoft wowing me before Apple?

What parallel universe have I stepped into?

Microsoft hasn’t been wowing me… I think you have stepped into an alternate universe where they somehow became exciting. The last time I thought Microsoft was exciting was Windows XP Pro and Xbox 360. I was hopeful with Windows 8, then those were all dashed with terrible execution and lazy implementation.

Siri needs a serious overhaul. Built from scratch kind of overhaul.
It does need to be overhauled. However, when Apple dumbed it down and turned off learned behaviors, it has been drowning ever since. Apple doesn’t want to cross the line Google, Microsoft, Meta and Amazon have all crossed for their assistants to work in their current forms; which is recording, tracking, storing and scanning everything on your devices. (Amazon and Meta go MUCH further than the other two in obtaining the essence of you… which is creepy).

Wow, this is really impressive. I generally prefer the stock keyboard but especially if this works with languages I speak non natively that could be a game changer.
I sure hope Apple's got some cool stuff lined up for WWDC this year because while I'm not sure they're ready (or should) jump into generative AI at this point I really fee like they're going to bring something new to the table to compete software wise.

Windows 7 was pretty snazzy. All that “aero” design was nice.

I haven't upgraded from v2.98 because you can't turn off this crap.

I don't want Bing anywhere in my keyboard, it takes up the space used for predictions. SwiftKey is great but Microsoft should stop forcing their AI stuff everywhere.
You’ll have to give up the keyboard then eventually. Microsoft is full force with it. You’ll be updated out soon.

This could be an awesome autocomplete and text generation tool but microsoft is only interest in shoving bing in everyones throat. I really can't stand the tone deaf of microsoft products. I kinda like the new bing but everything around it is awful, I don't want to use Edge, I don't want an ugly "B" icon in my keyboard. Microsoft is winning the race of the most fascinating tech of the moment and yet they can't f* hire a decent UX designer. It's only a matter of time before Google catches up and even Apple includes language models with on device processing, and no one will want to talk about bing ever again.

I'm paying to use ChatGPT plus to access GPT-4 even though Bing is based on the same tech, but Microsoft put so much censorship its nearly useless.

Wow, that is really interesting! I had no idea that Swiftkey and Bing were working together to create a chatbot integration. It sounds like this could be a great way for people to save time and get more efficient with their communication. I'm looking forward to learning more about this partnership.
Did you know Microsoft bought Swiftkey? Its not a partnership they own them.

this ai text block sticks out like a sore thumb to me. i think this tech can have uses, but the craze behind it is utterly baffling to me.

I will keep using this SwiftKey version until iOS updates render it unusable or Microsoft add a toggle to hide it, whichever comes first.

They left SwiftKey for dead just a few months ago, and that didn't bother me as long as iOS didn't break it.

I won't be updated out because I don't have automatic updates on. I vet every update, and if something breaks or annoys me, I have mechanisms to archive the last "tolerable" version, signed using my Apple ID.
