@profets Sorry, one more question..
Any recommended apps specifically for swimming or just built in tracking?
Look at the swim.com app. Not only does it recognize stroke types, like the workout app, but it has the ability to put the program into drill mode, for things like kicking drills that otherwise won't show up. It also has the ability to go in and edit the workout, which is handy when something goes wrong.

There shouldn’t be a time limit...I’ve done up to 90 minutes in the pool with no problem

You can use the built in open swim in the activity app on the watch and after review your workout in the workout app on your iPhone

You might also look at the swim.com app

I was not a fan of a swimmer. After reading all posts in this thread, I am eager to prepare and give myself a comeback. There should be a lot of public swimming pools in Sydney. I need to check it out.

I Swim quite a lot and I use the AW3 every time. It's quite accurate, the heart rate doesn't always capture due to the water but that's fine for me. I use the app Swim.com just because it's free and I can see the SWOLF data of my strokes. I really like the swimpro app but 1) doesn't measure SWOLF 2) It's a subscription base app.
I just wished the app provided me feedback to maintain in my heart rate zone for fat burning.. Maybe next watchOS update, who knows..
Cheers!

I’m so nervous to wear mine in the pool lol. I’ve never even gotten it wet when I was dishes. I always take it off.

You do know that you can change what's displayed on workout screens from the iPhone app under Workout->Workout View? That will let you swap a field for heart rate if you want it.

When I'm swimming I'm not looking at my watch. I want haptic feedback to help me maintain the HR zone.

What is the best band for swimming?

Silicone IMO.

I'm not sure I really follow what you are saying here.. you want a fixed rhythm or some kind of beat that follows your heart beat? I'm not sure everyone would dig that kind of experience.

Also if you swim any decent time (I usually swim for 1 - 1hrs non stop at a time) then possibly the haptic engine might use a lot of the battery.

I'm intrigued by your question though. Personally I just review the heart rate graph at the end and it's usually (not always) there.

Guys I just created an account to make this post. I got a Series 3 Apple Watch 42mm GPS + Cellular for Christmas. I'm an avid swimmer (30 year old male who swam on a college team). Naturally being able to swim in it was a large part of me getting the watch. I wasn't able to swim over the holiday so I used the watch water free for about a week and it functioned flawlessly. I loved the watch! Fast forward to my first lap swim. I enabled the water lock using the Lap Swim feature for the entire swim. It actually counted my distance and strokes very well. I was over the moon with it. Immediately after my swim I noticed my microphone was not working. I figured it just had some water in it and would give it a day or two.... Fast forward two days later I went through full diagnostic testing with Apple. Five days later I had a brand new replacement Apple watch. Naturally, the first thing I do is take the brand new watch for a swim.... Exact same problem after one swim! Two more hours on the phone with Apple and they want to replace it again. What the heck is going on here? We are talking a thousand yard swim! This was in an indoor pool at depth less than 5 feet... Am I stupid for thinking maybe the Apple Watch can't tolerate my strokes. I swim hard and fast with a lot of sprinting. Any advice? I don't know if I should not swim in the third one or ask for a refund? I love the watch but it's sort of useless without a microphone... I'm really frustrated by the whole situation.

Edit- I think I'm going to create my own thread so I don't hijack this one.

Wow, very unlucky. I swim 2-3 times a week, I'm not a fast swimmer but I spend on average about 1hr 20 in the pool each time and do about 3000m each time. I find the water eject feature doesn't really work but the watch Mic does work fairly soon after a swim and I get sound but Siri is fairly croaky until the next day.

I did convince myself that the Mic wasn't working the other day but that turned out to be me not saying 'Hey Siri' and pushing the crown... I had my thumb over the Mic grill of course

That's pretty weird. Haven't happen to me yet and I even take shower with the watch...

About the haptic feedback, what I was saying is: I want a swim app that can make a haptic feedback when I'm over the fat burn zone, so I can slow my speed and get back to the zone I want to be. Sadly in this current watchOS Apple doesn't allow developers to access haptic feedback.. maybe next OS..

I had a series 2 which worked just fine before I got my series 3

Is there anything the S3 can do or do better than the S2 specifically as it pertains to swimming and fitness/heart rate tracking at the gym?

That usage is literally all I want it for and thus I'm trying to get that functionality for as little $ as possible.

Sort of wondering if I should just go for a Refurb S3 38mm vs a used S2 of some kind.

I would think the S2 would be just fine. I moved to the S3 for LTE, but I can’t say I’ve noticed much functionality difference, especially for swimming

Do you have to have a series 3 for swimming or will a series 2 work also?
Series 2 works fine.

Both do the exact same thing, the only difference between Series 2 and Series 3 is the addition of LTE and thicker body.

Functionality wise, Series 2 and Series 3 are almost identical. The major differences with Series 3 is the processing power, audible Siri, LTE and larger on board storage of 16 GB with the LTE model.

I got to confess that in my last training sessions I noticed that the Apple watch adds at least more 50 meters in the end ... there goes the accuracy.. I didn't noticed before because I actually believed on the counting of the watch.. not so much now..
So watch that (and no, I didn't switch swimming styles in a middle of a lap)

After reading this thread I'm so tempted to upgrade my S1 just to gain the swimming option. Ideally I wanna hold off for Series 4. But my new apartment complex has a nice 25m lap pool and I've been using occasionally and being able to accurately track the swim would certainly be nice/motivational (I still swim with it now, just using a generic workout). The auto pace/stroke/lap/style features would be pretty handy...

Jervasio, are you sure that something like this...
I noticed that it doesn't count a lap until you turn for the next lap, so for example I can swim 10 laps and when I get to the end of the 10th lap, it shows 9 laps, until I actually start heading back in the other direction.

...isn't what you are experiencing? Meaning a "bonus" lap shows up later, because it hadn't marked your last lap yet? Or do you actually count your laps and the watch is consistently giving you an extra one? I'm not sure how that would work considering it shows the pace for each individual lap.... Does it say you completed a lap in like 1 second?

I have the same issue regarding a missing lap. I tend to do 64lengths of 25m. I now know i need to set off on the 65th lap to ensure it logs 64! Strange. Happens almost straight way, don't need any extra strokes, just to set off.

I swim in mine a lot. I notice the same thing but that extra push off isn't necessary. It's smart enough to calibrate itself. When you hit save, it assumes you are at the wall and it will calibrate itself to the nearest length.

Tonight for example, I swam 60 lengths, or 1,500 M. I looked at the watch when I hit the wall it displayed 59 lengths and 1,492 M. I ended the workout and it saved it at 60 lengths, and 1,500 M.

You've told it the pool length and it calibrates to a pool length when you end it. It's working normal, no need to do an extra push off. Your watch is working perfectly normal.

Yes, I'm sure. It gives me constantly 50Meters difference each session.. which is a bit disappointing.
