Wouldn't be bad for business travel, but it's solving a problem very few people can honestly admit they have...
well I think many may want a 2 in 1 by the bedside and for it to charge with no issues.

I think the belkin 3 in 1 charger for £20 more would make more sense as it holds the phone up and charges watch and air pods at the same time. costly but I think better value for money. just not being portable and MagSafe duo is will be the pull of that over the belkin one

But... why? Why does this exist? I have a charger for my Apple watch. A MagSafe charger for my phone. Together they’re probably smaller than this mistake of a product.

No thanks.

Why would you release this the day after the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend? Haven't people just bought their accessories? Why not just announce this last week and say it doesn't ship till a few days later?

Price aside, this looks like a great product for travelers. Too bad most of us aren't traveling much.

For home, it looks cumbersome to use.

Personally I'm tired of scrounging around, sometimes in the dark, between my nightstand and bed every night to retrieve my Apple Watch charging puck that fell off the nightstand when I took my watch off charge that morning.

Yes - a few reviews have showed this. You need to hold the charger down whilst taking the phone off. Can still be done one-handed, but it's not very slick.

that’s pretty stupid. but I’m still not a fan of this kind of charging anyways old fashion way for me please, until they rid the charging port

Might get some heat for this, but... MagSafe Duo is WAY more practical than AirPower was.
First, to get this aside, yes it’s overpriced. But, keep in mind that the airpower’s price was rumored to be between 249 and $299. Over double the price of the duo.
Secondly, for what this is mainly going to be used for, which is traveling, it’s way more compact than the airpower was. The airpower was a big, wide oval mat that you could slide into your bag. This thing is a tiny square that you can slide into your pocket.
Thirdly, when it comes to usability, the duo is just simpler. With the airpower, if you used a Closed Loop, Apple Watch band, it was basically useless. Plus, at least if prototyping is a good example, AirPower got hot! I would rather not have a tiny foreman grill on my nightstand, thank you very much.
And for anyone who wants to complain about charge speed or the adapter not being included in the box, I guarantee you that air power would have “required” an adapter that was sold separately, and it would’ve had to be a big one to actually power the thing properly. So in that case, these are really not that different of products. Except that this one’s smaller, more simple, less dangerous, and half the price.
oh and another thing, you can use your iPhone while it’s on the duo. The Watch portion will fold backwards into itself, which is nice. You couldn’t exactly use your phone if it’s sitting on the air power.
Personally, the only complaints that I have with it is that it’s made out of that crappy material Apple likes to use, and that it uses lightning M1 job instead of USB-C.

It just looks impractical to me. It’s just easier with a cord on the go. How is it not?
MagSafe Duo is designed for travelers with iPhone and Apple Watch (and maybe AirPods). Carrying a single charger and AC adapter is better than 2 cables and 2 AC adapters.

So if I traveled often enough, I would definitely get MagSafe Duo.

For home use, I prefer a heavier charger (like Belkin Boost Charge Pro, aka 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe) that does not require two hands to remove the iPhone from the charger.

You know what I just realized. I don’t own air pods or an Apple Watch. So yes I can see how this is better.

If it was 1/2 the price, you would say that again
A lot of people wants everything for free
I wouldn't expect it to be free. I'll spend my money elsewhere and get something similar for much cheaper and probably better. Nothing about this screams that it is worth $130.

actually no you don't, if you push down on the phone to release it so it doesn't just bring everything up...
Wait what? Magnets aren't "push to release." If you mean "push down while you slide the phone away from the magnet," then sure, but who does that?

No. Back when this was first announced everyone ballparked the price at around 79 bucks, which is a realistic price that people were interested in buying at. But 129, without a charger? No.
People don't want free, they want a fair price that doesn't insult their intelligence.

go check out Andre Edwards unboxing on YouTube...he just picks the phone up with no issues.

People who were expecting it to be priced at $79 must’ve not been paying attention.
The stand alone Apple Watch stand is $79. All that is is an Apple Watch stand, nothing else.
A single MagSafe is $39.
Add those together, and it’s $119.
Toss on the Apple tax, and boom!
$129
Be happy that it’s not priced more, because they could have easily priced it at $149 or $179.
Obviously I think it’s overpriced, but I’m not stupid. I knew it was gonna be over $100 at minimum.
People quickly forget the $49 silicone cases, or the $60 wallet, or the $130 battery cases, or the $350 keyboard, or the $999 Display stand.
Something that people also forget is that apple used to charge more just to get a magic keyboard and a magic trackpad or magic mouse in black. It was an extra $30, just to get it in a different color.

regular is $32 and gets full 15W speed........why would ANYONE pay $90 extra for the watch charger???

Since you are getting a second Apple Watch charging capability, the difference is actually $72.
  • $106 = $39 (MagSafe Charger) + $29 (Apple Watch Magnetic Charger to USB-C Cable) + $38 (two 20W USB-C Power Adapters)
  • $178 = $129 (MagSafe Duo Charger) + $49 (30W USB-C Power Adapter)
As for the wattage difference, 1W difference isn't going to make meaningful difference (15W vs 14W). Even 11W using 20W USB-C Power Adapter is sufficient for overnight charging, which lowers the price difference to $42.

As for why someone might want to spend $72 extra:
  • Single charger and AC adapter for charging two devices simultaneously. Travelers appreciate having to pack as little as possible and dealing with just one power outlet.
  • Durability. MagSafe Duo has removable USB-C to Lightning Cable, which is the most likely part to wear out (and conveniently the same cable Apple bundles with iPhone).
  • Aesthetics. While MagSafe Duo isn't my cup of tea (I prefer Belkin's Boost Charge Pro), to me, it looks far more elegant than having to deal with MagSafe Charger and Apple Watch Magnetic Charger.

It's a little disingenuous to include an Apple Watch charging cable when the watch comes with one and a 20W power adapter that isn't of any use since the watch only charges at 5W.

Following your logic, $39 MagSafe costs $39 more than $19 USB-C to Lightning Cable that is included with iPhone.

Whether you want to or not, you will end up with 2 Apple Watch charging solutions by getting MagSafe Duo. Also, Apple charges $19 for both 5W USB(-A) Power Adapter and 20W USB-C Power Adapter (which will charge Apple Watch).

One solution that I've been using with my Watch charger, is to use a metal based lamp to have the Watch charger puck stuck to. The lamps my wife and I both have were from IKEA (the RANARP) and the puck fits perfectly on the vertical surface of the base, which then holds my Watch so it's sort of wrapped around the base (I'm currently using a Nike Sport band, so it's two separate pieces). I can easily grab the Watch without pulling the puck off the lamp in the morning.

We didn't go into it, trying to find a solution, as we had the lamps before the Watch, but it works great and helps hide the charger and cable as an added benefit.
