Modern Design isn't copy-rightable
Actually, there was a specific case where Herman Miller sued an Australian furniture company Matt Blatt for using their Eames Designs. The verdict: They settled, and all Matt Blatt had to do is to use the word "replica" when they describe their Eames and other 20th century design that they copy exactly. You can go to Matt Blatt website and they still carry Eames Lounge Chairs etc...
I don't think Apple won against Samsung on the beveled icons alone, it was other interactions that they "patented". That carries more value in the courts.
