Swiss Federal Railways Says Apple Copied Its Iconic Railway Clock

There seem to be some real Apple haters in this thread (despite their lurking on an APPLE forum and having many posts) and people also defending Apple.

Simple fact is that Apple DID copy this iconic design and are in breach of copy-write as the design is still owned. You can call it homage or whatever you like but it's still a copy of an in-use design so it will need to be changed or paid for.

Entirely correct.

I defended Apple over Samsung because of Samsung's copying... and I was labeled a fan boy.

and now I defend Swiss Railways against Apple, because Apple clearly copied. What will I be labeled now? A Swiss Railways fanboy?

I take everything on a case-by-case basis.

I think this is a case of "if you play with fire you might get burned". Apple like to bring out the legal hammer as often as possible and I'm glad they're getting a taste of their own medicine in this case as it's absolutely justified. I like Apple but if they play this litigious game this is what'll happen.

This is more a case of some designer getting badly told off today, one or two programmers doing overtime tomorrow, and 6.01 being released the day after.

So when Samsung does it, Apple calls it stealing.

When Apple does it - it's "inspired" design.

I'd say the "inspired" designer will stay in his office today until he or she comes up with a less "inspired" design.

If they argue that it's not fair because a clock is a clock and there's only a few ways to do it and you're always going to have to copy someone to make one, I'm going to freak out.

When I first red the headline I thought how can you copy a clock but after seeing the pics I have to agree that is a copy.

it's obviously different. all three hands are pointing in different directions. the railway clock reads 12:40, while the iPad clock reads 9:38. case closed.

But on the more important consideration of how many times a day are both clocks correct, I think you will find that in each case the answer is two.

Apple is only a Hypocrite if they follow your odd logic.

Why are you jumping all over Apple until you actually find out what Apple does? Wait a few days. If Apple settles with cash, or removes the clock, Apple is doing the right thing and you should retract your statement.
