Switch from 6S Plus to XR?

I agree. Not enough of a difference to justify the price.

My wife upgraded from a 6s+ to a XS Max. When she did, I switched to her old phone to see how I would like the larger size. Used it for a month or so and really liked it. The XR fits my hand a little better than the XS Max. Apple gave me $200 trade in for my 6s which is about what I could get on eBay.

And a much ‘safer bet’ as well accepting Apples trade-in versus eBay. I know this thread is not about eBay, but that’s why I would rather trade into Apple/my carrier versus sell my device on eBay, to avoid any potential scams and six-month claims. I simply don’t/won’t make the time to deal with those who are trying to fraud someone else.

Fraud is the worst actually as a seller on eBay, not as a buyer. They usually side with the buyer. I sold my Apple Watch there unknowingly to a scammer.
He said my watch was defective and returned back to me tens pads (instead of the watch). Thankfully I was refunded since I proved to eBay that there were issues with this scammer, but many sellers got duped by him. I found a huge thread about him online. People lost a lot of money to him through that bait and switch technique.

Amazing, isn’t it? The extent that people go to to keep your product and somehow try to find a way to get their money back, and they hide behind a digital world where you can’t confront them personally either. This is why I avoid selling online altogether anymore, not because I don’t support used iPhone/Apple product sales online, it’s the fact you deal digital strangers who will try to act as if they are one way, but then they have ulterior motives that will try to fraud you. [Fortunately, I’m actually trained in detecting fraud, as I work in L.E.]

Years back, I was selling some like electronic products on eBay, and the buyer paid with an ‘E-check’, and then he messaged me stating ‘That he was leaving on vacation’ and could I ship him the products ASAP, because he didn’t want them sitting at his doorstep when he was on vacation. With an E check, you’re not paid immediately, it’s like a real-world check, that the funds have to be transferred and available from the individual, and to find out, the buyer never had the funds to begin with, but wanted me to ship the products to him, only to find out days later that the transaction was been canceled because the E -check was worthless. My theory when it comes to selling anything online, ‘If something doesn’t seem right, it likely isn’t.’

I moved from a 6S Plus 128GB to the Xr 256GB and I love it.

99% of people on here giving "advice" haven't even seen the phone in the flesh let alone owned/used one.

I found it a big upgrade to the 6S Plus. Here are my pros and cons (between the Xr and 6S Plus):

Pro's
  1. Xr has a far better camera system - I've been able to pull off some amazing photos that are just not possible on an older device
  2. Xr is faster - the extra ram (Xr has 3GB) and faster processor (A12 Bionic) make a big difference opening/switching between apps
  3. Swipe gestures - I don't miss physical buttons. To me the swipe actions make sense as I was using that on my iPad already
  4. faceID - some love it, some hate it, I'm more of the 80% love it category. Its faster too than touchID, and is great in the dark
  5. wireless charging - handy in the office
  6. Apps that take advantage of the AR features of the camera (true depth etc).

cons:

  1. I found the screen smaller than I'd like compared to the 6S Plus as the Xr has a narrower screen (and in fact all X series are the same). Your videos might look better/bigger on your existing phone.
  2. The notch - I hate it but there's not a lot we can do about that right now
  3. its thicker and heavier, marginally
  4. not a huge amount of case options, I went with the Spigen clear case off amazon
  5. no 3D Touch - but I never used it, I guess that will be a bit of a marmite love it or hate it.

all I can think off right now

Finally, go the XR in blue color (64 GB).

My initial thoughts about the upgrade:
- very nice looking phone, blue is great;
- Face ID, tap on the screen to wake and gestures feels more natural;
- even though 6S Plus works great with iOS 12, there was some sort of micro lags when fast switching between apps. Not anymore with the XR;
- camera is a noticeably upgrade. Better quality overall;
- it feels better in the hand than 6S Plus;
- display is good, it’s looks ok for me;
- speaker sounds much better, loud and clear.

It’s too early to say about the battery life, but I believe it will be good.

First day with the XR :)

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Really helpful

Cheers

Since we are well into March now already, you can as well wait next Apple's XR successor.

But if you do not want to wait, I suggest upgrading. I remember how it was when I upgraded from 6S to X, it was really like entering the future.

Yes, but I’m not buying devices on the launch date. First batches are more problematic..

I have also come to that conclusion that ‘launch day device’ tends to have more hardware issues, because production is ramped so high due to demand, mistakes tend to be more prone on launch day devices, when production starts to slow down, devices are put together at a slower rate, and ‘other’ manufacturing concerns are usually addressed throughout the lifespan of the product during its manufacturing period.

Just switched from the iPhone 8 to the XR yesterday. I’ve been a long time hold out for smaller phones but I must admit, I’m blown away by this device.

I am annoyed no 3D Touch but I’m living with it, faceid while I wasn’t impressed at first I’ve completely changed my mind. It’s been two days and I’ve already forgotten about the home button and touchid.

Screen is good as well, no idea what all the fuss is about.

Get it and don’t look back! But I do miss 3D Touch.

Just gave my iPhone 6S+ to my brother he has eye site problem so his 5S is harder to see ,I am keeping my 8+ until a better iPhone comes out without the NOTCH

Cons (continued):

6) Lower PPI (Pixel density) ===>this doesn't matter to some people though
7) No headphone jack (iP7 and up)

The XR is a great phone, the XS Max is even better (with 3D touch) so I went for both.

I’m enjoying the XR. Switched from the 6s Plus back on March 15th. The camera and speakers alone are the true upgrade, especially the portrait mode, front too. Didn’t know I would like the AR feature either.

6s Plus is a beast but I was tired of the top and bottom bezels and the XR fits what I wanted. I had the X but because of the PWM I went back to the Plus models, I had a 7 plus as well but had to sell it then I was back on my 6s Plus.

Was glad to hear the XR had LCD screen and that it was a little bigger than the X.Thank you Apple! Make the switch if you haven’t yet.

Somehow, using the R it doesn't feel like a 6.1" screen. I remember the days when 4.5" was considered big.

oh man, give it up already!

I've been in at least 50 million threads discussing the PPI on the iPhone XR to no end.

We'll be discussing it until the XR2 comes out, when I highly expect us to have something else to pointlessly complain about on the Internet.

It’s not even bad unless you were expecting 4K.

Give up what? If Pros and Cons are discussed, we should be adults and be prepared to discuss them in
any thread respectfully, and to their full extent. I have nothing against the XR, and I have recommended it to people that want that phone. You did not include the full list of cons.

The XR screen or "bezels" might I add are not cons for everyone, maybe to the YouTube tech people and to those that heavily listen to them but not to everyone. Just sayin

*edit, I see that u did say that everyone doesn’t care about the ppi density. Sorry it’s early here. Peace
