Not too long ago I discovered how invaluable low power mode is. I use an iPhone 11 Pro Max, and I get battery for days. I love the feature. More recently, I've been having trouble with 5Ge. Signal has never been great, but lots of lagging when loading web pages even more so lately. I usually only get 1 bar. I decided to switch to 4G and now I get plenty of bars. The speed is pretty decent too at 15mbps which is enough for just iPhone use for me. I don't notice a dramatic difference in usage, if any at all. Between low power mode and 4G, my iPhone feels like a new phone all together. Much more reliable in terms of having enough battery and signal.

Mine has it but it’s not the most reliable :/

You can only get it with AT&T other carriers don’t offer it but maybe one day @Sparkymoto
It's not 5g. That requires hardware and they didn't make it.

HSPA is probably working well for you because basically no one is using it. It’s the same situation here. 4 bars HSPA and 1 bar LTE. Same with Sprint/Verizon 3G but data is nonexistent. Call quality on 1x isn’t great either.

You make a brilliant point! I never thought of that. Maybe my 4G is working so good is because it's not too crowded. 5Ge would definitely have more people if I had to guess, so maybe that's why the performance isn't so hot.

I can't stress how much I love 4G right now. It's plenty fast for my needs. It's like I've rediscovered my iPhone

I believe AT&T and there use of misleading “5Ge” is ridiculous. I have AT&T as well and I keep my phone on 4G too and honestly it seems just as fast.

Im on the other side of that. I think 5Ge is a meaningful iteneration in the evolution of this technology, and I don’t mind att calling it 5Ge

BUT, I do agree that I don’t really notice a difference.

Well, actually I do. 4G is better lol (in terms of reliability at least)

But I think the point we are missing is how many Mbps do you need to check Instagram? I think 10Mbps would yield basically the same results as 100mbps. These are basic applications

In Turkey, we use 4.5G since 2016.

It is something between 4G and 5G. 😂
There it is:

my guess is 4G is better for battery too. I’ve been using it but can’t really tell yet. I’m already getting amazing battery life so any increase would be harder to notice

Curious, so the iPhone actually listed 5G and 4G as options in the settings?

It’s not in setting for carrier data. Which is what I’m assuming you’re referring to. In settings on AT&T it still says LTE or 4G. However, if you’re on LTE for the most part it shows “5GE”

So how did the OP "switch" to 4G if it's not user selectable?

You can disable LTE in the data options menu, it’ll revert to 4G.

LTE / 5Ge is far superior to 4G on at&t. I routinely pull download speeds of over 100Mb/s. Ping times are lower. Data loads faster. Not to mention VoLTE calls and HD voice...to each his own I guess...Enjoy 2009 tech, OP.

Even there AT&T isn't labeling things correctly either as their "4G" isn't actually 4G (which is basically LTE), but just a boosted version of 3G (like of like their 5Ge isn't actually 5G and just a boosted version of LTE). Not sure why Apple let them play games with all that mostly for just marketing purposes that are actually misleading.

I got annoyed by the whole 4G farce from them just like I am with 5Ge, nice to see nothing has changed with at&t marketing. It is still misleading for a lot of people.

I should’ve stated in my reply, that LTE / LTE- Advanced are far superior to “4G” HSPA.
