...Oops... did I just admit to sometimes reading MacRumors with a PC?? Damn....

I use a Wintel box at work and mt iMac at home and to be honest this site works better with MS Windows/IE than OSX/Safari.

And thanks for the quick replies all, not to mention the suprising lack of flames.

Would have been easy but not very satisfying, you sound like a good genuine person in need of some typed up TLC from some fellow Mac users. I hope they bring you the answers and reassurance you need.

sorry I have no useful knowledge on the matter it's mostly because I'm a one button hockypuckaholic.

actually part of an answer could be Mousezoom 2.1. I use it 'cos I use dual monitors and maximum wasn't doing the business.

I know how you feel

Although I don't have a Logitech, I'm using "The Mouse" by MacMice, which at first worked beautifully, but has turned into a nightmare which I can't fix. I can't drag and drop anything, because the mouse won't grab anything without using extra force on the left side of the mouse. It's infuriating, but I've become so spoiled with right clicking on my Mac I don't want to go back to ol' one button wonder sitting in my closet. Has anyone experienced this with "The Mouse"???

iTunes is on PC mate!! Switch Back Quickly!!

notdenizen said:
Frankly, yes, it is. I'm switching from linux, not windows, so the usual "spyware/virus/adware" arguement doesnt apply. My x86 PC is relatively new, fully functional, and not in any way broken.. so perhaps I have higher expectations than most of the people switching from windows. I was incredibly impressed with expose when I played with it, but so far that and iTunes are the only reasons I've got for wanting to keep this thing around. Presumably there will be others once I have a little more experience with the OS, but I'm certainly not going to find any if I'm spending all my time wrestling with the cursor :)

WHAT THE?

I read the thread heading and thought that the poor blokes G5 must have burnt down his house and replacement one had done the same to the hotel he was staying at. Geeezzzzz. What's happening to the world? I reckon switch back mate, coz if you're seriously considering switching back over a 3rd party mouse you have issues and deserve to live amongst 95% of the market. Apple may be after market share, but i doubt Steve would care if he lost this guy. Seriously mate, why did you even buy one in the first place?

Don't worry I have a top secret version of iTunes which works on Windows. I'll give you my website to download it off www.apple.com/itunes

Write back if you need a hand with installing it on your PC and if you need a hand advertising your mac for sale.

works best with Firefox

Similar situation, but I find this site works best with Firefox on both platforms. As for mice, I'm using the MS Optical Mouse Blue, and no complaints. Works great without any MS drivers. I use a Logitech keyboard on another mac, and found it to be important to have the latest logitech control center drivers. I'm not a big fan, because the lccdaemon has to run at startup and chews up processsor cycles (Rev A 12" Powerbook, so yes, every little bit makes a difference).

Give the guy a break

Well, I just read through this thread for a similar reason to some of you may have done in the first place - I was worried about someone who had finally switched to Mac from Windows/Linux (big win there - getting a Linux user to switch over to Mac) having a problem that made him want to go back to 'the other side'.

Ok, it was a problem with his Logitech mouse, and the first few comments were helpful and consiliatory. You can empathise with the poor guy, having to spend ages on a brand new (and probably very exciting) toy to get his mouse to work properly. It is a pain in the arse, and was probably, as the MacBytes community identified, something to do with the manufacturer.

Why, then, do we get the usual ignoramouses (pardon the pun) carping on about how he should get rid of it, sarcastically calling him down for 'daring' to be irritated about having spent 2 hours trying to sort out a problem in an entirely new OS he hadn't used before. For Christ's sake people (and this is topical here, as it is Easter), give the guy a break! We're supposed to be E N C O U R A G I N G people to come over to our platform, not indulging in puerile one-sided slanging matches with them when they hit, what they consider to be, a major problem with their new $2,000 purchase.

I think some apologies are called for here (and I don't mean from me to the pig-ignorant minority).

Dogsbody.

I have an MX700 on my Mac and have no problems. Make sure you are using the standard OS X drivers and not the piece of junk Logitech drivers. When I first switched, I felt that the OS X pointer response was no very precise like Windows. I got used to it in no time. By no means would I recommend switching back just because of the mouse. I did a switch-back once when I had my G4 MDD and sold it on ebay. When I got back to Windows, I was sorry and wanted to go back to OS X immediately. Several weeks later, the G5's were announced and I ordered one. Enough autobiography though. ;)

My wife uses a wireless optical mouse from Logitech; it came with OS X drivers and control panel. She doesn't have any problems with it on her iMac G5.

I have a cheapo MicroInternational USB optical mouse on my PM; no problems.

Sorry to burst your bubble but that link is actually for Apple's own website and the Windows version that is already freely available! You may be deluded or possibly just trying to take the piss out of someone without properly reading/understanding their problem, as the original poster is switching from Linux and I didn't know Apple made a version of iTunes for Linux.

Buy a Kesington Mouse... It works great with mac...

I second that. I use a 3-button Kensington mouse with scrollwheel at home and their MouseWorks software is great.

...assuming the issue isn't fixed with your current mouse by installing their drivers, of course! :)

Either his sarcasm went over your head, or YOU'RE using sarcasm and it went over MY head. :p

I actually really like my logitech mouse I use on my Mac OS X box. You see, I have the LX 700 wireless combo. What I hate is the keyboard. I wish I could find a wireless one that closely felt like the Apple notebooks

I will say though, I remember having some problems when I bought it, but after installing the stuff off of the CD, all seems to work well.

Max.

I realise this has been a very negative post, but I'm not trolling. Just very, very dissapointed.

I'm not a troll either, i have a ferrari that seems to have lost a valve stem from a tire and i'm seriously considering getting rid of the car - just a pain. :)

i've had the same issue with an icemouse from macally, the overdrive utility worked like a charm for mine too.

Sorry to burst your bubble mate, but why would someone spend $2000 to use iTunes. Why wouldn't you just dual boot your Linux PC with XP. I read the question correctly and understood it. The only thing i don't understand is some peoples logic, or lack thereof. What else does this guy use his mac for?

ALSO

If this individual had posted a thread under the heading of "Switcher having trouble with mouse configuration" 100% of the forum would have been helpful in alleviating his problem and he wouldn't have got one stupid response. But when you start using doomsday headings such as "Switcher seriously considering switching BACK", and when you start bagging something irrationally, and conclude his piece saying that he is very, very disappointed with Apple, because of a 3RD PARTY products performance. Well, all I can say he was asking for more trouble then help.

WTF?

Is this guy serious? You don't have to be an ass. If you don't want to be helpful, DON'T post anything. People like you are who non-mac users hate because of your snobbish, superior attitude.
The guy with the problem seemed perfectly willing to try a few simple, cheap solutions. It was the responses that were idiotic, and most of yours would qualify as that.

Well, I've gotta say that I'm usually the first guy to tell people to lighten up on the flaming of peoples questions; sometimes it gets a bit harsh in here when someone posts a logical, albeit obvious question and I just hate that...

BUT, this is odd, to say the least... The logic of replacing a $2000.00 computer because your mouse of choice doesn't live up to your expectations is quite flawed, to put it mildly... Add in the fact that the decision to replace the computer came to mind before attempting to find a suitable mouse, and it's down right bazarre...

I'm really not flaming on you, I just question the logic you're using here...

For what its worth I have the exact same mouse, Logitech mouseman dual optical and it works just fine on my 12'' Powerbook. I'm not sure what issues it is that you speak of. I just had to turn the tracking speed up a bit to make it the same as my Windows box and its been smooth sailing since then.

In past years, had I responded to the title of this thread, I would have been banned from the forums and my harsh words could cut down any guy to a sobbing school girl. This thread treads very close.

it all depends on the poster's wording, after all thats all we have to go by

im sure if the thread had started clam and a bit more innocently than the responses that followed would have been as helpful as possible, i try not to let peoples frustations and communications get in the way of helping though
