As far as a remote, consider getting a Logitech Harmony. Really any model will do- you'll just need a USB IR receiver for your desktop. With the Harmony you could have it control other things around your house (TV, game console, etc) or perform specific functions on the desktop itself.

Im going to be joinging you HellHammer. Windows 7 flies on my iMac and im sure 8 will be great too. The 2600HD in my iMac really is terrible for gaming nowadays and i can get a PC laptop with a Radeon 6990M for about the same price as the mid range iMacs. Sick of missing out on top games and i cant get another iMac because they are still all glossy. Will be ordering it in first few months of next year

I've still been very happy with my decision. If you're gamer, PC is the way to go. Are you sure you want/need a laptop though? They are less powerful than desktops and cost a lot more. Plus you lose upgradeability.

On a side note, you may want to hold on for AMD 7xxx(M) and Ivy Bridge. IVB is due in April.

Ah cool thanks for the info. Yeah im not sure that i want a big base unit. I know i will pay more for the laptop but i dont mind. The 6990 should last me a few years. Or i might wait and see what the 7 series your talking about is like

We are talking about a die shrink (from 40nm to 28nm) along with a totally new architecture (these come like once in 5 years). It will seriously be a huge update. If you aren't buying this year anyway, you should be able to get one without waiting anyway. Hold on for CES, there will be a lot more info.

Happy Xmas to all. My iMac has died on me. Will be getting a new machine a lot faster than previously planned. Bouught it Jan 08 so nearly made 4 years. Will have to get the credit card out methinks! Seasons greatings to all :)

Oh oh, don't like the sound of this, at all. Feb 08 here, for my iMac 24" Alu.

And what size prezzy will you be buying yourself? ;)

Hopefully yours will be fine. I just had bad luck with it lately. DVD drive went about 12 months ago. Hard drive about 6 months and now logic board has passed away. All outside Applecare ,grr

I built almost the exact same PC as you a few weeks ago because I wanted a desktop. It performs great and even plays almost all games on high/ultra. As for a laptop I still prefer my Macbook Pro though, I agree with you on that.
