After I hit my data limit, it switches to 2g speeds.

But also remember that many streaming music services do not count against your limit. Once my unlimited promo runs out next month, I'm moving to the 3gb plan. It's enough for me on a normal month but it will roll over the data for later use just in case I need it. I love roll over data!

Is rollover standard with each data package or is that an extra cost? Also, to clarify regarding the 2g, apparently it's Edge speed, so about 128Kbps (.12 - .13 Mbps.). That's basically unusable. I may have to go with 3gb as well unless unused data rolls over for free.

Roll over data is free but it starts with he 3gb plan. If you can swing the additional $10/mo, I'd get the 3gb. Edge/2g is what you'll get when roaming overseas as well. You can pay for faster speeds but really, for basic email & texts, it's fine. Takes little longer to Instagram the photo of the Eiffel Tower but it gets the job done.

Ah, got it. Yeah, I'll probably do 3gb in that case.

Speaking of AT&T's M-Cell, T-Mo has a similar service they call Personal CellSpot. Essentially for a $25 deposit (they refund this to you if/when you return it) you can get an ASUS RT-AC68U router.

http://www.t-mobile.com/offer/wifi-calling-wifi-extenders.html
The T-Mobile cellspot is such better IMO. The cellspot repeats weak T-Mobile signal into strong signal, versus the M-cell which makes it own "fake" signal via ethernet and is painfully slow.

I'm going to go with Jump, but figured I might as well wait to start that when the new iPhone is in stores. I'm going to unlock my AT&T iPhone on the 20th, when my service agreement and billing cycle ends.

I’ve never done this before, I’m assuming the steps are:
1. Unlock iPhone
2. Go to Tmobile and start service. They will port the number
3. Cancel AT&T?

If this ends up taking longer than expected (past the 20th), will AT&T refund me for the unused portion of my billing cycle?

Once your number is ported to TMO, your AT&T account will automatically cancel. You'll get refund as long as your contract is up.

You might want to consider the trade in program to get the new iPhone. http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-trade-in.html

The way it was explained to us in store; when the number is ported over AT&T will automatically cancel your service and generate a final bill. Once the final bill is generated it can be submitted online to T-Mobile and they'll pay anything you still owe (up to $650 per line).

What we did at the store was buy our SIM cards to start our service and were given temp numbers. We also pre ordered the new iPhones. When our new phones arrive we'll have to go back into the store to install the SIM cards and port the numbers over and also trade in our AT&T phones for credit (yes you get to double dip here because t-mobile will fully pay off the phones and they don't have to be given back to AT&T!).

FYI T-Mobile us running a deal right now where 10 gigs per line is the same price as 3 gigs per line ($100 a month for 2 lines).

Well I go to T-Mobile and I see for 2 lines at 3 gigs each its $100 for unlimited its $140
My AT&T for 2 lines and 6 gigs is $90 if I go for 15 gigs we will never use that much is $130
I don't see all this savings.thats my 2 cents

You just missed out on one of the better deals but that doesn't mean you won't get more for your money. Today, T-Mobile offers both current and new customers the North American plan. What that means is you get calling, text and data for free in Mexico and Canada (the only limitations you have is whatever data plan you have that's what you'll be able to use there). You get simple global, which allows data and texting for free overseas. Calls are 20cents/min when calling locally in another country. But you can use wifi calling to call back to the states for free. You get Data stash for 12 months (unlike att who only rollover 1 month). After a year you start over and begin saving again (that's a year from your anniversary not calendar year). With data stash you get 10gb of data free to start off with, this applies to each individual line (not shared). Music Freedom, which allows you to stream music services such as Pandora, Apple Music, iheart radio and etc. all for free without going against your data plan. Yes, that means you can stream Pandora for 24 hours and your data will remain untouched. Free roaming anywhere in the world and no overages (yes, that includes data too). After you use up your data your speeds drop to 2g speeds and you will have a unlimited amount of 2g until your cycle starts over. And did I mention you can talk on your phone and stream the Internet at the same time, I know not all att phones offer that but all of tmobiles do. That's why it's a great deal. Btw all plans are grandfathered and never change unless you say so, that includes promotional plans too.

Odd, I see 2 lines with 10 GB data for $100.
You can also double that to 20 GB data for $10 per line=$120

the19th is correct and that's an even better deal to take advantage of before they get rid of it. And they still pay for your contracts

, I'm willing to give up some coverage. (Hopefully I won't regret that).

I made the switch last year in order to cut my bill down AND to get the new iPhone 6 when it came out. Turns out I used more data and service than I expected. Went on a few trips to the next city and there were huge dead zones. I ended up switching right back to AT&T. Also, I didn't have good service in the city inside of large buildings. Sure I was in the city 90% of the time but the 10% when you don't have it, is when you'd need it the most. When you're driving on the highway more than 30+ minutes away, or at an airport, is not the time to realize you don't have service. If you're paying $70+ a month on cell service, it sucks when you don't have it.

Good news with TMobile is that you don't need an excuse to leave, you simply say you don't have service, and NO you don't need to talk to a tech, you just want out. BUT you owe them for the iPhone, and it will take a few days for them to unlock, so you can use it on another carrier. Plan on 3 days to unlock. But you can always use an old phone, be without a phone for a few days, or use your computer as a line too.

Your experience may be better, and I really hope it is, but I wouldn't do it. Service is worth more than you think. Not worth the cool gadget if you don't get service, and unable to make phone calls, and have your Spotify stop playing music more than you'd like, near your own home.

Interesting, so I have an iPhone 5S that I will unlock from AT&T. I was planning on using this temporarily just until the new iPhone is in store, THEN I would start Jump and sell my unlocked iPhone on Craigslist. But are you saying I can trade in my iPhone 5S for a 6, then when I start Jump, keep my iPhone 6 and get an iPhone 6S and sell the 6?

Not quite. You could start Jump now (by just purchasing a SIM card) and pre-order the new iPhone. You'd keep using your 5S on AT&T until the new phone arrives then once the new phone arrives you have the number ported over and trade the 5S into T-Mobile for credit.

How much is the credit for an iPhone 5S or later; do you know?

Got it. Looking at eBay, I'm probably better off selling it there or on Craigslist I think. They're selling for nearly twice as much.

I'm going to give it a shot... It's going to cut my bill in more than half from what I would be paying switching to AT&T Next. For that price, I'm willing to give up some coverage. (Hopefully I won't regret that). I'm hoping the new low frequency band will make things better. Plus, there's just so many other features going for Tmobile with their worldwide text / data, flight texting, etc.

I believe I'm going to go with Jump - I did the price comparison to buying an iPhone every year, then selling it again. After tax, it seems like it would most likely be a wash if not cost me a little more. It would be a little bit of a gamble to know how much I would be able to sell my previous iPhone for.

With Jump, if I have a defective iPhone (something wrong with it that was not my doing), will they replace it?
I am quitong you so you may get the notification!

We just did this. If you are worried about coverage, just sign up[ with TMO but do not port numbers. You have 30 days to make sure it works for you and can port numbers at any time. You will be paying for both TMO and ATT, but hopefully you can get a feel for whether it works for you in less than a week. TMO has a policy where they won't even charge you the time you used thier service if you decide it's not working for you.

I made a thread about TMO in Boston about two years ago and the difference TODAY is night and day. Apparently it is getting even bettwer with the new bands on newer devices, which is great. I still get spotty reception in my house and in a few "middle of nowhere" locations. Interstingly there are some stores, namely Target and Costco, where I get TMO LTE but 0 bars AT&T. Wifi calling has fixed all of my woes, and in the event we are out of power we ALWAYS have a labndline for emergencies (I have noticed a lot of families don't do this and I find that dumb, to say the least). By the way, you register your home address with wifi calling so if there IS an emergency where you are calling in using that service the first responders know where to go.

Outside of the pre-order process, which I have chronicled HERE, I have been happy to be back on TMO. Before the iphone came out we were on TMO and ended up jumping over to ATT. Stayed with ATT more or less until we just jumped over to TMO.

Oh, they also waived the $15 per sim card purchase fee. All we had to do was ask.

I too am on AT&T and will be switching to T-Mobile at the end of the month. We preordered 3 6S Plus T-Mobile phones (paid in full) and are hoping to take advantage of the "10GIG4ALL" promo.

I've been with AT&T for 15 years. I rarely had issues with AT&T service/coverage, but I needed to lower the cost of my bill. By paying for the phones in full this time around, I'm expecting my bill to be a lot lower than it has in a few years.

I'm really scared about the loss of coverage and the weak signal inside buildings, but I'm hoping with the Wi-Fi calling and being in the city 90% of the time will reduce my fear of bad reception. Looking forward to using Apple Music streaming without it taking away from my data too!

I'm concerned about this as well. We'll see. For the price I'm paying, I'm willing to take a risk.

Switched 6 lines this past weekend from ATT to T-mobile and couldn't be happier. I am on the 10GB for all plan. I have 6 lines everyone gets 10GB of data per month Unlimited talk and text for $180 per month. That's $30 per person per month. That's insane! The coverage has been just as good as ATT except when inside, where it's slightly worse. Wish I had made the move sooner, so AT&T couldn't bleed me more.
