Swype or SwiftKey?

I am so concerned about this, I have swype on ip5 but I am wondering if they have "enable full access" on by default because I can't see the setting, or if swype is safer.

They can't – it's an iOS 8 safety feature. I don't know why Swype wouldn't show up in the list, but without explicit user approval the keyboard can't access the internet.

It would seem that SwiftKey for example has tied their "Flow" feature to having full access.

Overall- I think I'll just stick with the stock iOS keyboard. It's done me well for a couple years and it's obviously made to work well with the iDevice.

I tried swiping on the iPad with Swype. Actually I didn't care for it. I think its mainly because you need to drag you finger over a long distanced on the iPad with the big screen real estate. Swiping works great on the iPhone just not on the iPad. It has nothing to do with Swype itself but more about the user experience on the larger screen.
 
Third-party keyboards don't work for passwords and probably certain forms in Safari.

You know you want our widgets though. 😛 Not that I don't like the Android ones, but man, you can't really take advantage of them without making the home screen look tacky or having to decompile the apps to change the transparency, etc. I'm not looking for a pretty home screen, I want a useful one!
 
Don't have an ios 8 device to test both, but on android, I go back and forth to be honest. Swiftkey has the better prediction but they only offer 3 word suggestions while swype offers like 6 or something which is a lot more flexible. I also notice swiftkey flow requires much more precision to get the word you want while swype gives you more leeway to get the word you're looking for. Also I use Chinese characters sometimes which swiftkey has no support for. For Swype you have many many options to type it, zhuying, ping ying, or even handwrite the characters. So they both have their pros and cons.
 
After trying both I am sticking with Swype. I find that it predicts what I am typing more accurately, while sometimes SwiftKey would produce random crap.

I used Swype on Android for many months a few years ago and it never let me down. The iOS version is just as good.
 
Slightly related - saw on another thread that you can delete the default keyboard (in my case the English one).

Just tried it, leaving only SwiftKey, and now there is no jumping between both anymore! Yay! Figured I'd just mention that!
 
Tried both for a brief period of time. And I definitely like swiftkey better. seems more fluid, keys are bigger (at least they seem like it to me) I am a swiping novice and with swiftkey I am getting much better results.

I too deleted the default keyboard like cassady and just using swiftkey and emoji (i might get rid of emoji as well, rarely use that)

I'm not so sure. If you're a pure swiper, I think Swype can be a better choice. If you switch between typing and swiping, then SwiftKey is the clearly the winner. I can't type regularly on Swype whatsoever.
 
It's really starting to bother me that SwiftKey does not have shortcuts/macros.

Such as with iOS keyboard, you can enter in the shortcut "cys" with the phrase "Catch you soon!"; then when you type the shortcut "cys" it will type out "Catch ya soon!".

Does Swype allow shortcuts/macros like this? The iOS keyboard does at least.
 
Swiftkey, used it for a long time on android, hoping for more themes on iphone.

I don't care for the iphone pull down screen widgets and don't use them, I wish we had android type widgets. The homescreen widgets are far more useful.

The best things that you know of maybe. Still plenty not there, but yes, fewer differences.
 
I am annoyed they both don't seem to play nice with messages and text. They keep blocking out the bottom messages. For now I am using Swype on iPad and Swiftkey on iPhone. May wait for that bug to be fixed before fully switching. Swiftkey is great though since I can tap right into my Android cloud versions so it already has a solid predictive engine to start with.

Yeah same here.

I can't really explain it but the keyboard has a slight hesitation. Like I thought I was in the text field already.

But I have to click to choose it, unlike how it used to be. It feels sloppy.

Hi, I'm in total agreement here. I've nothing to hide but I take security seriously.
Swype doesn't need full access as it doesn't do predictive text, only autocorrect so it has no need to collect or send any information.

That said I've tried a few of the keyboards and I prefer Swype so I'll be sticking with it.
