Mine errored out: "You have already redeemed the maximum number of these codes per Apple ID" (I'm already a subscriber - well, I've never paid for it, just on a series of free months from various purchases)

It says effective Aug 31 so maybe try again in a couple of days?

You can opted out of the Netflix feature. I don’t remember what the option for it would be in substitution. While Amazon Prime would be a nice add, I highly doubt Amazon would do it. Disney, Paramount+ and Walmart+ could be good offerings. They still do the MLB streaming service yearly too.

Related but slightly off-topic, Walmart+ will now include Paramount+ starting September. And if you have a AMEX Platinum, you get a free Walmart+ account (monthly credits) on top of the $20 digital entertainment credit you get every month for which Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ are eligible.

We tried ATV+ and found nothing we cared to watch, which is becoming the norm across various platforms.
YMMV. When I really got into ss (streaming services) a couple years back, I noticed that the internet as a whole had legit reasons to like and not like each and every one of the ss. Disney+, FRNDLY, Tubi, Netflix, you name it. ATV+ is most definitely part of that.

I don’t want “free” Netflix and I don’t want “free” AppleTV+.

I wish T-Mobile would offer a discount for people who don’t want to bundle. I care mainly about cellular network performance.
This is the unfortunate reality of upsell. Many folks look at carrier's plans and ponder whether shelling out extra for more expensive plan is worth it. Add enough carrots and the scale starts to tip in favor of upsell.

In the case of T-Mobile, you start with their Essentials plan. Fork over $15 extra per line to their Magenta plan and you get tax included on the price, 50GB extra premium data, 5GB mobile hotspot, 4 in-flight Wi-Fi per year, global roaming, Netflix Basic, 6-month Apple TV+, 1-year Paramount+, and 1-year AAA.

Then the next carrot is another $15 for Magenta Max plan that includes unlimited premium data, 35GB extra hotspot, full quality video streaming, unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi, even more comprehensive global roaming, configurable scam blocker, Netflix Standard, and Apple TV+. To make it even more enticing, it offers up to $800 toward trading in and upgrading iPhone every 2 years.

Hmm, I'm on some "old-ass" grandfathered plan. I should reevaluate to see if I can save some $$, if nothing else. IIRC, Magenta and Magenta Max still come with Netflix (although their new upcoming "w-ads" plan may end up being what's included). It seems any T-Mo plan gets a year free of Paramount Plus (the tier with ads). Getting ATV+ because... why not? However, if Magenta Max, or even Magenta end up being overkill for my usages, I may as well just go with a plan cheaper than that and spring for those ss a la carte.

Technically it’s true if they have two. I think Ted Lasso and For All Mankind maybe? Are there others that are actual hits, not just ”I like it”? It’s still incredibly sparse compared to similarly priced competition.
Severance is critically acclaimed, and really compelling. I don’t know if that qualifies as a hit. And… do they have similarly priced competition at this point? I think every other streaming service has higher prices.

Understand that the discount would be substantially less than the retail price of either Netflix or AppleTV+, because T-Mobile isn’t paying retail for them.

Football will definitely be an additional cost. No way Apple TV for $5/mo will include NFL games.
I mean… there is a way. MLB and now MLS are included with the $5. I bet they’re still in the “gathering” phase, like Disney+ did. We’re now seeing the price increases for Disney+ so hopefully it won’t, since it hasn’t happened in Apple’s history of subscriptions, but we may see a price hike overall in the future. But initially, for NFL, I bet we see no increases.

Just signed up while I still have the one free year that I enrolled a few months ago. Easy peasy.

”Hit” is just numbers – extremely popular, nothing to do with reviews or quality. Both Amazon Prime Video and HBO Max are at the same price point here, albeit HBO with a special deal that seems to reoccur regularly. TBH I think Apple’s actual competitive price point would be closer to 1€/mo but they have to charge more because after one to two months you can done with their catalogue. On the other hand, I guess for some, Apple’s content hits just right and if they don’t binge anything, they can make it last a long time.

I would have to upgrade my plan and pay an extra $15 a month to get a "free" service that cost $50 a year when purchased as a year sub. I can't see that as a positive financial cellular plan move.

It wouldn't be worth it unless you find some of the other MAX plan features useful e.g., increased premium and mobile hotspot data, Netflix, etc.
