To those that don't really care about it being officially "unlocked" to use overseas but want to use it on AT&T and just buy full price, the rep confirms it'll work right? She says this version would work with AT&T. Good news.:)

According to reports, it's the Verizon iPhone that works on all network, except for Sprint because of some FCC agreement.

I know but in the blue box in the OP that he highlighted, the rep states that the tmobile version would work with AT&T right or did it read that wrong?

I know a lot of us didn't care about it being unlocked per say just that we wanted to buy the tmobile phone full price to use with AT&T. It looks like the rep confirms it if I read that correctly. Before they were saying it'd only work with tmobile.

how to test it

How to test to see if it is unlocked in US once I get the t-mobile contract free iphone from Apple on 9/19?

Will this phone work the same it does on T-Mobile US around the world? Any compatibility issues in Europe or Asia?

Thanks.

get Tmobile contract free one from Apple website, restore it (it will say your phone is unlocked) and then put in AT&T simcard. If it's locked to T-Mobile it should reject the AT&T simcard

These screenshots, in addition to the multitude of anecdotal evidence on these forums-- including my own experience with a T-Mobile SIM iPhone 5S bought in full from Apple.com-- last year ought to settle the question without any doubt.

That said, I'm still gonna keep the permalink to your post handy and spam it as often as needed :p

Is there any way I can get a nano sim from AT&T ahead of time like today, would they give me one? I don't have one but plan to add it to my existing AT&T line in which I've got a basic flip phone. I want to be ready to go.

How did you see this information via your browser? Thanks for posting!

I believe you need a JSON program to view the information.

Negative

I tried to get a nano sim today but the rep at the AT&T store told me I need the phone with me because they need the IMEI to assign the nano sim to the phone.

I need a nano sim because my current phone broke which is using a micro sim but believe if I go into an AT&T store and just ask them I need a nano sim for my number because I bought a new phone and my current phone uses a micro sim.

I am an AT&T customer so they wouldn't deny me.

If anyone knows otherwise, your insight is more then welcomed.

I'm assuming this is so they can charge you an activation fee as well. So one more time if we get the tmobile version apple shouldnt deny us service right? We will be able to get it into an existing mobile share value plan as unlocked?

Its not to charge you an activation fee. Its just to update their records of the phone you have on file.

Put in an AT&T sim card and see if it works. Or if you have a working foreign sim put it in and see if it starts to roam on a US network.

Im in a similar situation like the OP, I want to order the unlocked iphone6 tonight and let it ship to my freight-forwarding address, so that I will receive it outside the US and put in a non-US gsm chip.

I also want to be sure that Im buying the right device and Im 95% convinced that the Tmobile version will be unlocked, but what stops Apple to give the IMEI number this year to tmobile, so they can carrier lock it?

I guess the safest thing to do is to wait when the first folks get theirs and they can report about it and then order it, that will still be faster then waiting atleast 2 months for the official unlocked version to get released.

Anyway, I read a lot that the verizon iphone will also be gsm unlocked, but can anyone point out how to order that one at full price? Please be aware that I cannot go to a verizon store, so is there a way to do it online?

If I wait for people to get the first iPhones, lets say one week from now, to know the Tmobile version is indeed unlocked, what do you think the waiting time will be then? more than 2-3 weeks?

Apple released the unlocked models around November 22 of last year for the 5S. Not sure about the 5C. But I think this year; it will be maybe longer time before it is release due to demand and carrier pressures. I will wait for the unlocked version - last model the 5S which I tried to buy all through 2013 and finally got it online in January 7th and delivered sometime around the 11th, 2014! The iPhone 6; I feel will be a month longer to get for me. I will start try to get it in 2015 and I think I will be lucky to order it in February sometime 2015! It going be fun trying to buy one from Thanksgiving to the new year that for sure! I will wait till after the new year since demand slackens off a bit! February and after should be idea for buying an unlocked version. You probably could get one at the Apple store if you wait for it to open at 9:00 A.M. But get there about 8:00 A.M. since resellers are getting there about the same time. You don't want to miss out on getting it because you were tardy and they ran out of stock!

The T-Mobile iPhone model is IDENTICAL to the factory unlocked models that Apple puts out in the months after the initial release. The only difference is that the T-Mobile models come with a SIM pre-installed. Remove the T-Mobile SIM, and there's no difference whatsoever.

If you're concerned about availability, just order from Apple's website when the store goes live. I ordered my 5s online last year at midnight on the Friday release date, and received it the following Wednesday.

If you are willing to stand in line at the Apple Store and be the first 5 or 6 person in line. You can get it for sure. But you have to stand in line at around 7:30 A.M. If you are the 12 person or more; you may as well forget it since the resellers will get all the phones for that day! An Apple store usually is shipped between 100-900 phones a day depend on it size and sales volume.

Thanks, but I meant that I would order the iPhone from Apple online store and have it shipped to me. If I order it at the 09.20, what would be the waiting time?

I guess you can purchase it outright, get an ATT sim, and if it doesn't work, return it back to Apple and wait for the official unlocked in November.

The chat log posted from an official apple representative constitutes as proof.

No it does not OP. Those of us that have been around here for a good while have seen this over, and over again. We have had conflicting remarks from Reps many of times. Soon, you will learn this as well, and someday, you will inform other new members the same as you are now being informed. Better yet, why don't you just wait a few hours and see for yourself....;)
