T-Mobile customers are now able to enroll in the iPhone Upgrade program online, a process that used to require a visit to an Apple Store.

The change is reflected in updated language in the Apple Store app, which now says that customers can join the iPhone Upgrade Program online with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon.

AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint users have been able to enroll in the iPhone Upgrade Program online since the program launched, allowing for online purchases of new iPhones, but T-Mobile subscribers who wanted to upgrade to a new iPhone using the iPhone Upgrade Program could not do so online like other customers for previous iPhone launches.

With this policy change, T-Mobile customers who plan to purchase a new iPhone using the iPhone Upgrade Program when the 2018 iPhones launch should be able to do so entirely online without visiting a retail store.

Apple last year offered pre-approvals for the iPhone Upgrade Program, which allowed iPhone Upgrade Program customers to get through the checkout process more quickly when pre-orders kicked off.

Apple is likely to offer the same pre-approval process this year, which customers of all carriers will be able to participate in. Apple also offered Trade-in kits delivered by mail last year, another option previously not available to T-Mobile users.

Why could T-Mobile customers not join online? Why was a visit to the Apple Store a necessity?

Well, there goes that loophole where non T-Mobile iUP customers could order that phone without account verification. Was useful for people on prepaid/no contract plans.

Note this was only for existing iUP customers, not for new customers.

Apple will definitely do the preapproval process again for iPhone Upgrade Program customers. Can’t wait to preorder. Ahhhh.

T-Mobile this whole time just never made their systems compatible with Apple’s Lol. No idea why. In the Apple Store they have to use multiple devices just to activate 1 person’s iPhone.

[doublepost=1535073552][/doublepost]Is there any way to join the Apple Upgrade Program if I currently have AT&T and intend on switching to Verizon with the introduction of the new iPhone in a month? It seems as if I need an existing account with Verizon to conduct the purchase with Apple. And I can’t do it with AT&T, as they will give me an iPhone incompatible with Verizon. Thanks for the assistance!

I've been trying to join the iPhone Upgrade Program for several years and continue to get denied. The only thing they ever tell me is that they can't verify my address, despite having lived here for ten years in an address that has existed for over 100 years. FICO/income is outstanding. Anyone else have this problem?

I have zero problems getting approved for anything else...

If I’m currently on a SC Plan with T-mobile’s own Jump iPhone Upgrade Program (which I qualify for at this point), will I be able to pre-order using this option from Apple or will I need to deal with T-mobile’s own midnight pre-ordering circus?

Can someone explain to me what’s the difference of getting this upgrade program versus paying T-Mobile jump program and paying a down payment and a $30 monthly there after for 24 payments?

Your getting an unlocked iPhone and AppleCare+ included the payments. With the T-Mobile plan your neither, however you can still purchase AppleCare+ from Apple separately.

I’ve been debating on switching to T-Mobile.. it’s just a tough jump lol... I know their coverage isn’t on par with AT&T. But AT&T has been slippin lately

So here’s the deal. You can join the iPhone upgrade program in store and you can tell them you want the sim unlocked version (basically it’s the Verizon version that works on all carriers). Unfortunately you only can do this in store, no way to do it online, as online will auto select the carrier your already on and thus you will get that carriers version. (Which if you currently have AT&T or T-Mobile then your phone won’t work fully on sprint or Verizon)

There’s really not much you can do. You would pretty much just have to walk into an Apple Store and do everything there. Maybe they’ll let you make an in-store reservation for a phone without needing to enter any carrier credentials, but I doubt it.

If you try to preorder online there will be no option to select Verizon and port your number over from AT&T.

This is difficult and probably won’t work, but if you have a spare phone that’s compatible with Verizon... You can go to a Verizon Store and say “hey, I want to move from AT&T over to Verizon, port my number and activate a SIM card to use with my existing equipment.”

Then you’ll have an account with them and can do the preorder with iPhone Upgrade Program.
