I've been trying to join the iPhone Upgrade Program for several years and continue to get denied. The only thing they ever tell me is that they can't verify my address, despite having lived here for ten years in an address that has existed for over 100 years. FICO/income is outstanding. Anyone else have this problem?

I have zero problems getting approved for anything else...
Do you have your credit locked with one or more or the 3 credit bureaus? That would do it. It would be hit or miss if you only have it locked at one bureau and not the other two, so it would depend on which bureau Apple uses. Just taking a stab at it, no worries.

Thanks for explaining. I think I’ll go this route for the X Plus this year and sell my current phone thru ebay.
Good call, AppleCare comes in handy and I’d rather give Apple my money that way I’m not stuck with payments to the carrier and can leave anytime I want. Apple will trade in your iPhone to basically put money towards the taxes, also remember you get a new iPhone everyday, you just have to turn in the old iPhone to get the new one. (The one on the plan) you still have to pay taxes each time you get a new one. Or if you just want to pay the iPhone off and keep it you pay the full two year payments. Heads up Apple runs your credit (soft) on the initial sign up.

Yeah they will give you $150 for your iPhone X :) this companies are blood suckers and iPhone upgrade program is joke .You can sale your phone for more on Craigslist etc then get a new one

iPhone Upgrade Program isn’t a joke. It’s an easy way to pay for an iPhone and a smart way to get ahead with preorders.

I enrolled in the program when I got my 7 Plus in September 2016. When I got the iPhone X November 2017, I did an upgrade through the program. My balance for the 7P was $450. Instead of trading it in I sold it for $600 and used that money to pay off my balance instead of just trading it in to Apple.

So I pocketed $150 and still was enrolled in the program.

Apple emailed me and said “hey we never got your 7P, so you owe us $450.” So I said, “no problem!” And paid the balance with the $600 I got for selling my iPhone on Craigslist.

The credit check that Citizens One ran back in September 2016 still shows on my credit report smh. But at least the second one I did in 2017 didn’t show up on it.

Once I’ve made 12 payments on my X, the balance will be $600. My plan is to sell it for $800. I’ll still do an “upgrade” through the program, but won’t be giving my phone back to Apple. Just gonna use the (hopefully) $800 to pay off the $600 balance.

But you're not paying $1k upfront anyway, plus you'll be covered with Applecare. You're only leasing the phone and then return it to get a new one. What's so bad about it?
If Apple offer the upgrade program in my region, I would sign up in a heartbeat.

If you purchased at the right time (a year before the release) they "give" you half the cost of the phone for the phone but immediately apply it to what you owe, so basically they give you $0 as you have nothing to show for it.

I have no problem with this, as this is what you signed up for if you are in this program.
I think of it as more like a yearly lease or rent for a year program, with a rent to own option.

You can sale your phone for more on Craigslist etc then get a new one

But you have to pay off the old one first and you have to meet someone shady on craigslist.

The interest in the the Apple Care fees, about US$ 200. It's better to just take the carrier subsidies and use your credit card purchase insurance for extended warranty. You end up paying A LOT MORE in the upgrade program.

I think you're confusing the iPhone Upgrade Program with Apple Renew where you just get a trade-in credit towards a new purchase. With iPhone Upgrade Program, at Upgrade... Apple pays off the remainder of your previous loan. Effectively giving you a 50% trade-in value. Yes, you can do the work to put it up for sale on Craigslist, but you actually won't be making thaaat much more. Especially if you bought one of the higher capacity models.

It's this kind of thinking that Tmobile and other cell carriers are hoping for. They got you good. Sucker.

It’s about time T-Mobile allowed us to use the Apple Upgrade program online without going to the store.

You actually don’t have to pay off your old iPhone first. Last year I did the preorder for the X as an “iUP Upgrade” and when I got the new phone, I then sold my iPhone 7 Plus and used that money to pay off the balance and pocketed the rest.

Apple emailed me saying to return my phone or else I would have to pay the remaining balance, and that was totally ok.

The phone not being paid off through Citizens doesn’t mean you can’t sell it.

If you already were in the apple upgrade program wirh TMobile I believe you were able to do it through app. This was only for new subscribers.

Cause didn't TMobile users do pre approval who were already enrolled ?

Does Apple still force you to get Applecare + I would love to do the upgrade program but have no interest in Applecare. This is a sneaky way of Apple to force people to buy that rip off.

[doublepost=1535073552][/doublepost]Is there any way to join the Apple Upgrade Program if I currently have AT&T and intend on switching to Verizon with the introduction of the new iPhone in a month? It seems as if I need an existing account with Verizon to conduct the purchase with Apple. And I can’t do it with AT&T, as they will give me an iPhone incompatible with Verizon. Thanks for the assistance!
Get a cheap/used VZW phone you can buy upfront and switch now. When next IP comes up for preorder you'll have an account already.

Yes, you're still required to get it. Sure insurance is a ripoff...til you need it.

I wonder how this year will work - we've been enrolled in the iUP since they started it... last year the iPhone X had a delayed release causing the 1st payment to be 11/02 - you are required to have made 12 payments before next upgrade and this year the next release will be likely sometime in September, prior to the 10/02 (12th) payment...

Last year we paid for the entire period in which we had possession of the prior iPhone which was longer then 12 months - we were reimbursed for the last payment in which we would have paid forward but did not have possession of the phone for the entire month as we swapped out... Curious how this year will work...

I mean it is basically free. They just split the cost of the phone over 24 months and include apple care +

I’ve been debating on switching to T-Mobile.. it’s just a tough jump lol... I know their coverage isn’t on par with AT&T. But AT&T has been slippin lately

With T-Mobile, you at least get WiFi Calling. My office is a dead zone for cell signal - an old concrete building with enough reinforcement to block everything. Two of us are on T-Mobile, the other two are on Verizon. I just hop on the WiFi and have plenty of coverage.

That’s actually not a bad deal considering the fact that AppleCare is included.
