So I've been on a prepaid sidekick plan ($1 a day + $.15) and it's worked beautifully on my iPhone. I used the correct settings and having unlimited EDGE has been truly awesome. I used this plan for about a week and then last night, all of a sudden, my edge stopped working.

I ran through some threads here trying to troubleshoot this, but to no avail. I called tmobile and the tech said he just got a memo that all non-sidekick prepaid users would no longer be able to use EDGE. Crap, this sucks.

Can anybody confirm this or PLEASE! tell me this tech was wrong?

Do the other two plans even include email and web? if they don't, why does it matter?

mine just sold on ebay this is crazy, i will get a crap phone and wait till next summer to get the iphone on ATT. :(
600.00 for my 16G white so not shabby Its sold in 1 minute :)

iPhone 2G on 3.0.1 with sidekick plan in NYC and its not working for me. This sucks I've had this setup working for me for several months and was happy with it.
and I just got a $25 refill on Friday too!

-sigh- I'm in the LA area and my EDGE isn't working at all either (also on sidekick data). Just like everyone else, i get/send txts, email, and calls. but, no internet on safari or any other app. Man... this isn't cool. I don't want to go to postpaid!

I woke up this morning to find that I was still able to send texts, get emails, use voice, but still no EDGE internet or other apps! I wonder if it's time to switch providers. Anyway, I called T-Mobile up again this morning and they credited my account with $5 and switched to the PAYG plan. I'm going to wait until this outage is over to switch back to SK.

well this is actually good news. i had been using an iPhone on the Sidekick PAYG plan, and switched to a G1 the day before yesterday. The internet hasn't worked since the night before last, although i still have an edge/3g indicator. It just doesn't seem to send any data from any applications. The arrows flicker back and forth for a few seconds, then nothing. However, if i try to switch to a different APN, it gives me the not subscribed error. So i know the settings are right, it must just be this huge outage... I'm in Austin, TX by the way.

still no data for me in san diego. I think they figured out how to block it because why would we get email? I'M sure that a hacker should be able to provide a fix.... hopefully

I have called and chatted with tmobile, and both times they told me that it has been purposefully blocked.

Looks like the honeymoon is over.

I did a live chat and the rep told me there:

I deeply apologize, mrkgoo. Sidekick plans will no longer be able to work with phones other than
Sidekicks at this time. Please contact our Prepaid department about possibly changing to regular internet access.

I contacted Prepaid, and a nice woman genuinely tried to help me connect, but to no avail. She concluded that the issue was me being on the sidekick plan, and that it was probably checking IMEI.

I suggest mass exodus.

It's a real shame if it's true that they're locking it down. The Sidekick prepaid plan is the only budget-minded way of getting data on T-mobile. We couldn't have numbered so many that it was worth shutting us down. And I think in all likelihood, not many will upgrade to a data plan, as the whole reason we were on the prepaid in the first place was to remain inexpensive. And those that do want to upgrade to a proper plan could probably do better than EDGE.

I'm going to att pay as you go for a month. I'll just have to try and live on 100mb of data, and 1000 texts (I think those two combined = $30)

I just spoke to another rep she laughed and said it is now blocked, I sold my iphone because i never used it she said email will be next...
OH and when i change my account to the pre paid 10cent a minute plane it was 33. a minute and I have 200 bucks on it , called and now back to 10 cents...crap something is changing?

A small part of me is hoping that all this just means they are rolling out a proper prepaid data plan.

I mean, seriously, do T-mobile not enjoy money? There's a whole market of people who are on prepaid with data-enabled devices.

Ahhhh!!!

I had a feeling saturday night i was lost because of this damb problem... i had this problem in the past but i caled t-mobile and gave them a random Sidekick IME number and they gave me access to internet rite away! idk if this might work again?? or should we just wait this situation out?

So if this is true that they are blocking the sidekick prepaid plan, the only option that remains is the total internet plan for $39.99 a month or a voice plan + data plan?

correct, I hardly every use the iphone so threw it on ebay and got 600 for a16G white 3gs I will get a prada and use it till the new batch comes out next summer...

trying it but they are asking for a user name for my "sidekick"?

just tell them that you need to create a newone but from what i remember.. is that the first representative that answered she was not a sidekick specialist so she just asked for IMEI sooo i think just work with the first operator that answers and once it gets to the second step just hang up
