On my iPad Mini I picked up 3G/4G pretty consistently. Some times it would drop to Edge and what I noticed is that, for some reason, the iPad Mini didn't play well with Edge. It received data just fine but it wouldn't upload, send messages, download data. It would always say "connecting" if an app was trying to access data. It was almost like the data speed was so slow that certain apps would cease to function.

I just picked up an iPhone 5 and I'm excited to try it here in San Diego because I heard most of San Diego has been refarmed.

I'm so excited! 3G just flashed on for a few seconds while I was sitting in my chair at my desk. It went back to Edge quickly though.

FYI, there's a Twitter feed that updates findings: @UMTS1900

Word of advice, don't turn on notifications, they will blow up your notification screen.

The 3GS isn't capable of the higher hspa+ speeds. It will only do a theoretical maximum of 7.2 Mbps download which translates to about 2-4 Mbps in real world usage. Decent 3G speeds but not 4G HSPA+.
I was getting around 6Mps in NYC. I switch to the iphone 5 3days ago now I'm getting 10+ Mps

Ya its normal...real world speeds are dependent on how good the coverage is in your area...Cell Signal isn't exactly the definition of that...its how much bandwidth and spectrum is available in your area.

I have 3G in half the areas I go to in the Denver/Westminster/Federal Heights/Thornton areas. Theres about a two mile area where each of those cities can be reached and the signal seems to come in.

I do get the signal best though in my house which is perfect. Having no signal is why I cancelled my Verizon and AT&T iPhones and have now moved over to T-Mobile. The speeds are so fast that a song downloads in about 5-8 seconds. A few nights before canceling my AT&T service this week, it took me 9 minutes to download one song. This was on a 4S. I couldn't even attempt to download a song at my house on the Verizon 4S where I had no 3G, just the big O and dropped calls.

Good to know. I live and work south west of Denver and currently have Sprint. It works alright when I'm outside but in any building or my house it drops to 1x or roaming. I'm planning on trying T-Mobile when my contract is up or Sprint kicks me off for excessive roaming.

I should also mention that 3G started working this good sometime over the past three weeks. When I first bought a Nexus 3, I activated it on T-Mobile and was amazed at how fast it is on T-Mobiles network. I then tried the sim in my unlocked 4S and got a 3G signal for about five minutes before I switched back to edge.

I tried it again in the 4S for the first time about three days ago and I was amazed at the speeds. I ordered a sim on the T-Mobile site and they overnighted for free and I activated it transferring my number from AT&T. I only stayed with AT&T because they were the best choice after trying out Verizon with no 3G at all. AT least with AT&T, I averaged between 0.00Kbps to .50Mbps and once in a while at night, 1.5Mbps.

I am constantly getting No Service and "E" (Edge) speeds in NYC outdoors, for anyone who cares.

And if it's indoors, if I go remotely deep into a building, fuhgetaboutit. No service.

Those speeds are great. I average 0.5 Mbps for 3G. Anything close to what you are getting would be awesome.

I thought I would be stuck with bad carriers forever who could not get reliable data to where I live but T-Mobile has done it. I've also not had a single dropped call yet on either of my phones on T-Mobile.

Longmont, CO: i've been getting 3G for about a week now. yay!
Although it's not everywhere, on average I get about 5/down 1.5/up on 3G in my area.

this was in Louisville, CO. like those speeds better.

They are working on the entire front range of Colorado the last few weeks. I drove from Wheatridge to Turnpike/Pecos area and didn't lose the 3G signal once on my 4S.

ATT and sprint should be ashamed of themselves

Hell yeah they should. I finally broke my contract with AT&T because I couldn't handle not getting data at home, same with Verizon. On AT&T, I was lucky to get 0.00 to 1Mbps and sometimes more, but most times, I got no data and the no internet connection message.

On T-Mobile, I get between 4-10Mbps down. It's just amazing. I never had those speeds with AT&T in the entire seven years of using iPhones.

The pings are all over the place

Hopefully they stabilize. It seems like they are working on the towers a lot over the past few days because of the improved reception I am getting around town.

thanks for the info and it's good to see so many Denver-ites (is that the right word? ;) ) on this forum.

I would switch in a heartbeat if they would upgrade their towers west of the metro (Evergreen and I-70 corridor to Evergreen) and the ski resorts. Right now on AT&T in Evergreen / I-70, I get 6-10 Mpbs down and a mix of LTE/4G at the resorts I frequent... plus LTE in downtown Denver (where I work).

I tried T-Mobile for a few months on the Nexus 4 and I was blown away by how much time I spend on EDGE or very slow HSPA (< 300 KBps down).

It's good to see they are getting the towers refarmed and I know Denver is on their LTE roadmap (not sure when, though).

Well people, I think the reframing must be near complete. I live in Laredo texas, and not close to the city..., about 15m from a city centre, and not on the rich side of town. The side of town that usually gets stuff done last. Haha and I woke up this morning and I had 3G on my iPhone 4 unlocked!
The tmobile prepaid SIM card I use has no credit on it because I normally just use it at home on wifi, but the 3G network does show up.
So I can't give speed information. I was planning on switching to a galaxy so I could get speed when I buy a plan, but maybe I can stay with my iPhone now!!

Yup, AT&T should def. be ashamed about themselves

So you're comparing your LTE to my 3G? What's the point?

I get to use my Data as much as I want, my iPad and MacBook are teathered to every day between 12-14 hours. Try that on AT&T and see if you don't get throttled to .09mps.
Show me your 3G speeds.
