I am using a PAYG T-Mobile sim. Works fine.

T-Mobile said that they use GPRS, which displays the E on the iPhone.

I was emailed these settings from them;
IP Address 149.254.201.135
Username: user
Password; one2one
Port: 8080
APN: general.t-mobile.uk

(not all typed in though).

Hi, I hope someone can help. I used the above settings and all was well for about 15 minutes. I tried to access facebook, and was blocked, as it is a site for over 18's. I went through the credit check to remove the block, but that failed (God knows why). Since then, I can't access the internet at all on my phone. I've tried deleting the settings above and restarting the phone, then putting them back in again. All I get is "Can't find server". Has T-mobile blocked everything because of that check?

It's not a credit check you're doing; T-mobile lock all content they deem "adult"; they call it "content lock". What you need to do is call t-mobile by dialling 150 from your phone or 0845 412 5000 from a landline and ask them to remove the content lock. That should sort it. :)

T-Mobile UK

anyone figured out how to unlock the UK iPhone onto T-Mobile UK?

thanks in advance :)

Sorry to be such a nuisance, but just to let you know I've got the problem sorted. I phoned T-mobile, and they removed the block. After that, the net worked fine!

*Edit* Thanks, Mojopixel, you were right. All sorted now. :)

I have an unlock iphone and I am going to change my contract to t-mo in order to take advantage of the walk n web tariff.

can anyone confirm me that t-mobile has a decent edge coverage in london area? I guess the symbol E means you get EDGE?

There is some doubt as to whether T-Mobile UK supports EDGE at all.

I assume the E displays on the iphone means you get an EDGE signal? as I am using GPRS in my t-mobile iphone without an E on the screen.

On a current UK iPhone the E indicates that you are receiving EDGE. When EDGE is not present, the E disappears and you are left with a blank square instead (white or blue depending on the screen you are using at the time).

What I'm not sure about is whether original U.S. phones with older software (including unlocked versions imported to the U.K.) had the fall back of the blank icon when EDGE was not being received, i.e. when on GPRS.

The reason for this doubt is that there are posts in this thread indicating that people were getting the E icon on T-Mobile UK, yet their data speeds were not up to EDGE standards and T-Mobile themselves have said that they do not have EDGE coverage.

I'm on T-Mobile with unlocked 3G iphone, and just in the past couple of days, the app store has not worked at all on a 3g signal - only on wireless.

My browser/email access is still fine though.

Anyone else noticed this? I've rebooted etc

Iphone - app store and itunes are not working over t-mobile cellular connections

Yes the app store and itunes are not working over t-mobile cellular connections.
It does work over wifi, with the original o2 sim, and with the t-mobile sim while roaming abroad, but not over a cellular connection in the uk.
Ive tried all hints i could find (removing com.apple.mobile.installation.plist, resyncing etc.)
Any help or hints much appreciated!

Has anyone had official word on T-Mobile explicitly disallowing this?

I would expect if you call and ask they'll just say 'we don't support the iphone'

However, if you just said 'I can't access IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx', then they would be obliged to go and find out why you can't access it.

Anyone know the IP of the app store/itunes store (as accessed from the iphone)?

One workaround that works for me is to use a simple VPN setup on my home router - that way I can access the app store over a 3G connection, as requests then appear to be going to my home router.

Hi,
I found out that it does work with the web n walk plus (also called mobile broadband plus) option, which costs an additional £5. Which is good and bad news I suppose.
Marcos, your VPN solution sounds interesting as well, how does this work and are there any speed consequences?

I just setup a simple VPN server on my home router (using the dd-wrt firmware, but many other routers have it as standard), and connect to it on my iphone.

There's a perceptable slow down, but still useable.

Odd that you can get access with WnW plus - a bit cheeky on T-Mobile's part, as you should be able to access all IP addresses really - WnW Plus is meant to be for a) tethering, and b) voip
