I am very happy with T-mobile. It beats Verizon in that I can use voice and data simultaneously (can't with Verizon) .. and its way faster than AT&T and Verizon in all the places where I have tried it. It is also WAY cheaper.

I pay only $50 for unlimited data (a plan they had a while back) The Binge On video at 480 does not bother me. The phone screens are so small anyway that doing 1080 on a little phone (mine is the 6s Plus) does not make sense anyway.

I never do tethering so I don't care for that. I am sure 99% of the customer don't do tethering either. Having my iPad tablet with unlimited data for $25 is also an outstanding deal.

AT&T nor Verizon compare ... T-Mobile is the best right now. That's why they are adding 1.2MM customers per quarter while AT&T is only adding 300,000

Interesting that I received a call from a Rob from Executive Relations at T-Mobile on behalf of CEO John Legere. I voiced my opinion on the T-Mobile ONE plan in an email to him, especially for those who don't want unlimited data and just want the most affordable postpaid plans among the various carriers.

Rob was gracious to repeat that the Simple Choice plans are not going away anytime soon (probably with the exception of the Simple Choice Unlimited in favor of the T-Mobile ONE plan), and that the T-Mobile ONE plan is NOT going to be the only plan available. I did question why it was called ONE plan since it my have been misconstrued as being the ONLY ONE plan that T-Mobile will have in the future, hence my original concern. I didn't get an answer as to its peculiar naming convention, other than that they are always listening to their customers and they will see how it goes and take actions accordingly to make sure they retain maximum customer satisfaction.

That being said, I won't be switching away from my Simple Choice 10GB Family Plan, along with my grandfathered Match Data plan on my tablets, as I need my tethering, don't mind the ability to toggle Binge On when needed (hasn't happened yet), and none of my lines have crossed the 10GB mark in a single month yet, or dipped into the growing Data Stashes for that matter.

Question - if I have an old plan (each family member gets 10GB) will at automatically change everyone to this newer plan? Not a fan of this new plan so I hope not.

No plans are going to be switched over automatically. The plan you have chosen is the plan you can keep.

However, if you want to change one or more lines to have an unlimited data plan, or add a new line with unlimited data within a Simple Choice Family Plan on or after 9/6/2016, the entire family will need to be converted over to the T-Mobile ONE plan.

If you're considering getting unlimited on a new or existing line under Simple Choice, do so before it becomes a grandfathered plan.

Actually, I think this is a very poor plan. Right now, Simple Choice plans come with lots of high speed bandwidth (I have 10GB/line on 3 lines, plus 20GB on another line, for $130/month), unlimited SD video, and all the usual benefits, including data stash. I've never tried to limit my usage, and I haven't hit my 10GB/month limit, ever. And I have a 20GB stash ready to go for any particularly busy month.

AND, with Simple Choice, you also get to tether all of that bandwidth, if need be. Which is great when traveling, or when something is wrong with your home ISP for a few days.

With the new plan, tethering is limited to (terrible) 2G speeds, which is really unusable except for basic stuff like Yelp and Maps. And it costs more.

I certainly have no plans to switch to this from my simple choice plan, which is a much better deal.
[doublepost=1471971330][/doublepost]tMobile really needs to add some basic amount of high speed tethering, and SD video tethering, for free, before this plan compares at all reasonably to Simple Choice. I've long been a fan of tMobile, and this is the first time they've come up with a new plan that was noticeably worse than their previous plans.

If this unlimited plan came with 10GB of free high speed tethering, and SD video could be tethered as well, then we'd be talking a competitive plan.

Or even if they offered BingeOn for tethering I would be happy. They should do tethering tiers... I can't speak for everyone but I bet a majority of people don't tether more than 1gb a month unless they're doing video.

If they really wanted to do unlimited right while not getting the EFF and other companies in a tiffy, Uncarrier 12 should've been different speed tiers like cable companies do. For example:

- Unlimited with all video throttled and all other speeds no more than 1Mb.

- Unlimited with all video throttled and all other speeds no more than 10Mb.

- Unlimited with all video throttled and all other speeds not throttled.

- Unlimited with nothing throttled.

Tethering could still be included or as an option, but you'd be surprised how little RDP/VNC would require in terms of bandwidth.

Granted, wireless conditions could not guarantee continuous maximum speeds, but at least you could pick with what you're comfortable with.

T-Mobile has introduced a new plan called T-Mobile ONE [PDF] that offers unlimited talk, text, and 4G LTE data for $70 per month. A second line can be added for $50 per month, while up to six more lines can be added for an additional $20 per month each. The total cost for a family of four, for example, would be $160 per month.

tmobile_one.jpg

T-Mobile ONE has some caveats to consider. First, unlimited video is limited to 480p standard definition for all services, with unlimited HD video available for $25 per month extra per line. Additionally, tethering is limited to 2G speeds, with 5GB of high-speed tethering available as a $15 add-on.

T-Mobile's existing Simple Choice plan with unlimited talk, text, and 4G LTE data costs $95 per month and includes unlimited HD video and 14GB of LTE tethering. The carrier also offers 2GB, 6GB, and 10GB of 4G LTE for $50, $65, and $80 respectively. These plans will remain available for a short time for new customers.

T-Mobile also clarified that, as with its Simple Choice plans, customers using the most data -- specifically the highest 3 percent -- may see their data traffic prioritized behind other users once they cross a threshold of around 26GB of data during their billing month. The carrier noted that throttling will only occur at specific times and places where there is network congestion.

The new plan includes usual T-Mobile perks such as Simple Global, Mobile Without Borders, Wi-Fi Unleashed, Stock Up, and T-Mobile Tuesdays. T-Mobile will also pay up to $650 in early termination fees to customers who switch over from AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint through its Carrier Freedom program.

T-Mobile ONE will be available for new postpaid customers on September 6, while new prepaid customers will be able to get the plan "in the future." Existing customers have the option to keep the Simple Choice plans they have or switch to T-Mobile ONE. The plan costs $5/month extra per line without AutoPay enabled.

T-Mobile follows in the footsteps of new data plans from AT&T and Verizon.

[doublepost=1472032108][/doublepost]I too, have the 2 for $100 unlimited + 7GB tethering. I am wonder how long before Tmobile makes it very uncomfortable to stay? Or will they outright kill the grandfathered plan somehow (learning from Verizon & ATT). I use over 25GB/month and the other line about 250MB.

When traveling throughout the country via interstates and a few rural State routes, Tmobile definitely drops more than 50% of the time. I travel only 2-3 times a year, so the cost vs. inconvenience is such that Tmobile is better for me.

However, if you actually live and work in a rural area, most people I know have a Walmart Straight-Talk plan or pay Verizon for the privilege. It's very sad that the rural areas (farmers, ranchers) are up a creek without a paddle. Realistically, regional providers and MVNo's are not always good with coverage as well.

I am persuading some of my friends with AT&T, Sprint and Verizon to sign before September 5th with T-Mobile - as in do it now. That is how good T-Mobile has become in metro areas. 5 lines $140 plus tax - $165 total with tax; "10G/line LTE unlimited all" is not available anymore but the other limits are still the best of the major four companies.

The T-Mobile $70 plan for unlimited data looks like a good one to me. I have a kid that wants an unlimited data plan. My wife and other kid have the old ATT unlimited data plans from 7 years ago. They are NOT going to get rid of those and switch to Next or the newer ATT shared plans. Younger kid can only get 5GB max from ATT on my wife's shared plan. Highest data usage thus far has been 23gb in a billing cycle! Overages at $10 per GB!.

ATT new Mobile Share plan for 25GB data for one phone is $130. T-Mobile One is $70 for *unlimited data. I am aware that in high traffic areas the data could be temporarily throttled after going over 26GB. Dont need high speed tethering or HD video on a small iphone.

What is the best deal for unlimited data for a single phone right now? This T-Mobile deal is the best I have seen.

If companies are installing infrastructure to scale (which, I realize, is a costly and challenging task), then land area isn't as prohibitive as you make it sound.

1) Shannon's Law

2) Inverse square law

3) The population of the United States is not anywhere near uniformly distributed. It's not even close: the fifty states are divided into a total of about 3100 counties. Fully half of the population of the United States is concentrated in only 140ish of those counties (all major urban areas). There are vast swaths of the desert southwest where tumbleweeds outnumber people. It's not (yet?) economically feasible to provide coverage out there.

I too have the same old 2 for $100 unlimited (no throttling/down-scaling etc) plan plus the 7gb per line hot spot. The only thing that perked my interested in this new plan is their $25 extra for unlimited hotspot.

Honestly if I could grab a 4GLTE hotspot for $25 a month unlimited, I'd bridge that with my wireless router at home and ditch Cox as an ISP for $80/mo (150mb speed). T-mobile is running the ZTE Falcon Z-917 Hotspot for $60 right now and free Sim Kit. Pretty enticing.

You do realize that binge on does not apply to the $50 plan, right?

Even though the website tells you that binge on is available and that you can turn it on, you don't actually receive binge on service until you upgrade beyond 2GB LTE data.

I called T-Mobile today and they told me I couldn't add the $25/mo unlimited hot spot (with speed limitations after 40gb used data) to the $100/mo 2line grandfathered plan. I'd have to switch which would be $120 for two lines which would also lower the quality at which I stream video. Not going to do that.

yeah... it sounded great at first... but Ill stick with my grandfathered ATT Plan... they dont limit me to 480P video and i tether with no limits.... well with it jailbroken.....

You can avoid 480p video by using a VPN. It's not convenient, but neither is relying on a jailbreak for unauthorized tethering.

Only if using a VoLTE phone where you get LTE. Getting only 3g or 1X? Better be on Wi-Fi for data like usual.

Sure, but I don't remember many times where I don't have LTE. I even did a road trip across some very small towns and in the middle of no where (in places like Iowa and Nebraska) and had LTE everywhere. So I guess its just not as big a deal anymore, but that will I am sure vary depending on your specific location.

I like my grandfathered plan just fine. I only have 5GB hotspot but I need to keep the old JUMP! plan because it lets me have multiple EIP plans. Yes I'm addicted to technology. Haha. HD is good too.
