I'm sorry I meant to say SIM free unlocked. I'm not going to use T-Mobile.

Apple took their unlocked 5s off their website in September.
That version IS sim unlocked
I think this is the guy who comes through periodically and posts false information.

As CEmajr said. The T-Mobile version on Apple's website IS UNLOCKED.

----------

Well then how come you can't buy it on the Apple app as unlocked. Where did the option go?

I just got the 5c and I just got it flat out unlocked without T-Mobile.

The 5s got problems.
You can purchase it Unlocked on the Apple website or in an Apple store. Don't use the app if you want the T-Mobile version. The app only sells 5s iPhones with a contract.

Well how come I can get the unlocked 5c on the Apple app but not the 5s?

I went to the Apple Store and they told me that the T-Mobile version is not unlocked outside the U.S. I called the Apple Store and they said it was not unlocked at all.

There's not even any iPhone 5s on their website that says unlocked. You say that the T-Mobile version is unlocked, but the website doesn't mention anything about that.

So, I'm curious, are you trolling?

It's definitely unlocked. I received mine 2 weeks ago and was able to activate successfully on AT&T.

There are people here, people on youtube, and (in my case) people we know who have purchased their phones full price and have it come factory unlocked.

If you pay full price for a T-Mobile model, it is unlocked.
If you pay full price for an ATT handset, and it isn't unlocked, call ATT for unlock.
If you buy a Verizon handset, it will be unlocked regardless of contract status.
Sprint sucks so their phones are always region-locked to Sprint in the US.

If it is unlocked, I don't know why it doesn't say that on the receipt.

I opted for the 5c because I don't trust it.

Apple employees are giving you the corporate line. The phones are unlocked, but they aren't publicizing it, just as they don't publicize that the Verizon phones are unlocked, or that "device-only" purchases of AT&T phones are also unlocked.

With the 5c they don't care since they have more than they can sell, anyway. The 5s is playing the traditional role of "new" iPhone at launch in that it is the one that carriers are using to try to get people to sign new contracts.

From Apple's actions the past few years, it seems pretty clear that they release the "official" unlocked iPhone only after the supply has caught up with demand. That has been the case since Day 1 with the 5c, but won't be the case for another few weeks with the 5s.

So they want people to sign contracts on a phone that is not available? The only one you can sign a contract on today and for the past few weeks is the 5c.

The 5s is in the backseat, on Apple's website and iPhone.com.

They don't even have an unlocked version, so I don't see how money is flowing.

Of course Apple wouldn't advertise a carriers phone as unlocked because they don't know their unlocking policy.

But we don't care about any of that. We want SIM free from Apple like the 5c has, they don't have that in the 5s.

Of course I'm no longer looking for the 5s, as I went ahead and got the 5c, but in retrospect, will the 5s ever come up from the back burner?

Again, the T-Mobile version purchased from the Apple online store or retail store IS UNLOCKED. Please stop stating otherwise. You are giving people false information.

If you don't want the T-Mobile SIM card that comes with the iPhone throw it away. It doesn't make the iPhone any less unlocked!

Trolling for who. You need to go to the Apple store and tell them that. I told them I wanted unlocked but they wouldn't give me one.

I don't want to buy T-Mobile anything. Even if I can just throw the SIM card away.

Hi guys, I'm going to buy the iPhone two days from now, I'll be visiting NY. Are you saying that if I buy the T-mobile version at full price I will be able to use it outside of the US? (Argentina specifically).

If it is indeed unlocked I understand I should, but who knows, there's plenty of ways for someone to screw me over :p

You can buy the AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon version "device only" from an Apple store and it will be unlocked. You can activate and use it with any GSM SIM card.

Why are there a few people that keep trying to confuse others about this? It is very simple. If you pay full price at an Apple store or the online Apple store for an iPhone that Apple labels as Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile, it is unlocked right out of the box. No ifs, ands, or buts. The carrier name they sell it under has no meaning whatsoever other than the sim card that it comes with. Take it out and throw it away, burn it in a ceremonial camp fire, or pick your teeth with it if you don't want to use that carrier. Makes no difference!

If you can find one at an Apple Store, the Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile versions purchased "device only" will be unlocked. Use the words "device only." Don't say "unlocked" as that will just confuse the sales associates and they'll tell you they don't have any.

It's not a few people. It's the same guy coming back making new accounts and getting banned again.

Which iPhone 5s

There is an iPhone 5s for Verizon with CDMA and various GSM frequencies. There is another 5s for TMobile and ATT with the same GSM frequencies, but without CDMA. The Sprint 5s has CDMA and the same GSM frequencies, plus a few more, but Sprint locks their phones.

I want to try TMobile, but until I have a phone and use it for awhile, I won't know for sure if their coverage is what I need. I currently have a CDMA phone without GSM, so I cannot try it on TMobile. I think the Verizon 5s would give me the most options. I believe it should work for Verizon (obviously) and also for TMobile and ATT since it has the same GSM frequencies as those carriers' phones. Then if TMobile does not work, I should be able to go with either Verizon or ATT.

Is this correct?

Is it possible to buy a Verizon 5s device only (no contract)?

Does anyone know for sure what the official unlocked 5s will be? Will it be the TMobile phone, or some yet to be announced model?

Thanks.

I like his choice of names. This time "ipodsnacks"..I'm not sure if this dude ever gets tired of creating accounts over and over again.

Whoever says T-Mo Contract Free iPhone 5S' from Apple.com / Apple Brick N' Mortar stores are locked is completely trolling. They are definitely factory unlocked and can be used with T-Mo/AT&T in the US and all compatible GSM carriers around the world. No activation needed. Just insert your sim and voila!

I did this my self and no issues whatsoever. I have tried T-Mo, AT&T and other foreign GSM carriers as I occasionally travel abroad.

You can buy the Verizon iPhone 5s device only at an Apple retail store.

The Verizon, AT&T or the T-Mobile version purchased device only from the apple retail store is unlocked. The only one sold unlocked from Apple online is the T-Mobile version.

iPhone 5s - T Mobile contact free

Hello, since they are? I am new in this forum, and it needed his help please.

A friend brought of Boston an iPhone 5s 32gb of the carrier T Mobile. I pay full price the equipment. Having understood that if he was paying the totality of the equipment, and to the being contact free, it could proceed directly with t mobile to unblock my iPhone for imei.

My friend in Boston, I request to t mobile that were liberating the iPhone 8 days ago. Still I have not had answers and am a bit worried and eager to use my new mobile.

I write to them of Uruguay, and need to know that steps to continue to manage to liberate my iPhone and to be able to use it in my country. F

rom already I am grateful to them for the whole help that you could give me.

¿De dónde su amigo comprar el iPhone? Desde la tienda de Apple o de una tienda de T-Mobile? Si compró en la tienda T-Mobile está bloqueado y hay que esperar 40 días para desbloquear el iPhone.

- If you buy it from the Apple store, it's unlocked. Apple doesn't sell locked T-Mobile iPhones.

- If you buy it from a T-Mobile store, even at full price, it will be locked to T-Mobile until you've had service with them for 40 days and then they will unlock it.

Wow! That's interesting. I thought that it would be locked also, so I asked the guy working at t-mobile when I bought the phone (full price). He said "of course it's unlocked!" Well, I guess he lied or he really just didn't know!

Llame a T-Mobile y pregunte.
