The part that makes sense is that you get a free phone when you sign up plus another free phone every 2 years and you’re not locked in a contract.

So leaving T-Mobile will only cost you to pay the remaining balance on the phone you got. Yes the plan is a bit pricier but you basically get free phones for life or $800 off the more premium phones.

That’s about $33 a month per line in savings if you divide the $800 device value over 24 months.
You are "locked in" the same as every other carrier in that you get your phone discount via 24 monthly bill credits. If you leave before 2 years you end up paying the difference for the phone. Other carriers are 36 months now though, like they said.

For $6 a month you can cut your AT&T installment in half (18 months). Just have to take good care of your phone.

T-Mobile sucs now after John Legere left. Higher and higher monthly plans, new penalty for using credit card autopay, worthless TMo Tuesdays, unusable 'free' global roaming, fees to upgrade devices etc. Now they want to know why I left after 10+ years lol.

What's unusable about the global roaming? I've used it very successfully across 5 different countries so far, and it was very free.

The T-Mobile Philippines reps are amazing. Best customer service experience I’ve ever had. Period.

lol the secret to excellent TMo customer service is to use T-Force (on Twitter or FB). T-Force can solve extremely complex problems quickly and those reps have the power to do quite a lot.

Happy with my Magenta Max at $85-20% insider discount = $68/month with taxes+fees included. I live in Chicago, which has the highest taxes/fees for cell phone plans in the nation (almost 35%!), so this is also a huge savings. Apparently you can still get the T-mobile $5 autopay discount if you have a debit card set up (that's all the system checks for to ensure the discount), but just prepay every month with your credit card.

Excellent reception all throughout the city for me (and 900mbps on my couch), 5 gigs of 5G data in most developed countries. Can't complain.

It’s the speed. The speed was so bad for me in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Italy that it was almost unusable, even for maps. Battery drain was awful as a result.

I was just in UK + Italy, and got extremely fast 5G roaming without any problems or battery drain? However I am on the highest plan? I think it used to suck a lot more a few years ago when it was just 256kbps.

Even despite having fast/free international data with TMo, I will still augment with a local eSIM for even more fast cheap data.

Me. All depends on location and which carrier is better in your particular area.
True.
But it's less expensive going to a MVNO which uses one of the bigger companies' networks.
Mint Mobile uses T-Mobile.
Xfinity Mobile & Visible uses Verizon.
Not only will it depend on the one's location and the carrier used, the price/package makes a difference as well.
Mint Mobile just increase the $25/m package from 4Gb to 5Gb with unltd. talk/text while using wifi at home or wherever it's available.

Fair point and everyone has different needs. I was referring to the three choices, which were between AT&T and Verizon at similar costs and are similar shoppers.

You have full speed now. No artificial speed cap. 5 gigs before they slow you down to UMTS speed.

This is far from un-carrier. I got 3 lines for 100 bucks back when T-Mobile started with this. Now one line is $90
It amazes me how many people have fallen for that marketing ruse.

T-Mobile has done just as much to undermine net neutrality as AT&T and Verizon when they zero-rated “partner” services on metered data plans. They have data breaches seemingly every other month and apparently have made no sufficient effort to start protecting customers’ and former customers’ data. They led the way in stuffing expensive plans full of useless “perks” like an MLB subscription and “free” Netflix, rather than just cutting out all that junk and lower plan prices commensurately.

Their behavior is just as evil and anti-consumer as Verizon and AT&T. It’s all just wrapped up in a pink bow.

Huh, I use all the perks and would pay for them if I had to so they in fact reduce my effective bill.

I've had all three recently, and AT&T is the best overall, I feel.

They have the fastest and largest 4G network, broad 5G coverage, and if you can get a discount (I use my parent's teacher discount for 25% off), they have reasonable pricing.

Verizon is expensive, they limit their midband and mmWave 5G to higher priced plans, and their LTE network has become really congested in cities. Their mmWave is amazing, if you can get it, but I don't really need speeds that fast on my phone. I'm good with a consistent 40-60 Mbps down.

T-Mobile has a great 5G network, but their overall coverage isn't as good as the other two, and they're less secure, having these data leaks ever so often.

I don't really care about Netflix or HBO Max because I already pay for those outside of my plan, and I don't care about Apple Arcade+ and Music being included because I subscribe to Apple One Premier.

I have dealt with all the major carriers. However a little over a year ago I cut all of them out. From here on out it is only MVNOs for me!! Why anyone would still want to deal with the big carriers is beyond me. The only benefit of the big Carriers is if you Actually NEED ”Unlimited” data, NEED 50GB of Hotspot data, or spend months on end in Canada/Mexico or other select foreign countries.

Most people don’t need TRULY Unlimited unless they have no home internet and are trying to use cell service for all their internet needs. The data caps on MVNOs are almost always soft ones so they never cut you off completely you just get throttled if you go over limit. Most all of them have options to add more data in the event that you do go over limit.

Where there is a will there is a way as long as you are willing to do research. People can find an MVNO plan that fits their data needs for fractions of the cost. There are ways around streaming quality caps as well by using a VPN. There are ways to get discounted phones without committing to 24-30 month contracts. Also the savings on MVNO plans usually more than offsets the benefit of that “free” or heavily discounted phone From the big carriers.

I started out with Mint Mobile which is of course is T-Mobile. Great flat rate pricing. They always have promos and they recently increased their soft data caps. Unlimited for $30 a month now includes 40GB of data a month before they throttle. Get 6 months free service if you buy a phone from them. I use Mint now to power my iPad. Only pay $15 a month since I don‘t use more than 5GB on that device.

I am now with Spectrum Mobile (Verizon) for my main line which is the perfect fit for me. I got one whole year of free unlimited service with them. Normally Just 29.99 taxes and fees included. 20GB of data before they throttle, for an extra $10 a month you can upgrade to Unlimited plus which ups the Data cap to 30GB plus unlike most MVNOs this also lets you stream at higher quality. Also they are the only MVNO that I know that also lets you add an Apple Watch also only $10 month also with taxes and fees included. I actually am seeing much better speed and coverage compared to my previous ATT unlimited plan.

Only caveat is that you need Spectrum Home internet or they charge an extra $10 a month per line. Spectrum always has deals on their Home internet pricing. I am currently paying only $19.99 a month for a 300Mbs plan with a 2 year rate lock. BTW no issues with speed I regularly see well over 300Mbs download speeds.

I am saving over $2500 over the next 2 years and even after that will still save hundreds a year compared to my previous setup with AT&T and T-Mobile for home internet.

I also suggest Red Pocket as another good MVNO that offers discounts on new iPhones with dirt cheap plans. You can currently get $100 off instantly plus another $200 back after just 3 months on autopay. Only need to keep a plan with them for a year and then you can have the phone unlocked to use on whatever carrier you want.

I wanted a 13 mini as a second backup phone. Got one new for only $329 after discounts and rebates. Paid only $20 a month for a plan for 3 months autopay. After that I switched it to annual which dropped the price to only $15 a month with 5GB data unlimited talk and text. They also offer one of the most dirt cheap plans available. For $60 a year yes just 5 bucks a month you can get a wireless plan!! Granted it’s limited to 500 minutes of talk, 500 texts, and 500MB of data. That can be great for someone who wants a backup phone for just 17 cents a day.

Amazing that people in Europe pay way way way less for mobile and high speed internet. Guess it's just like prescription drugs.
