Exactly what you've heard. IMO, probably means that they can't lower the price on existing accounts, but they were nice enough to give you a workaround. So pretty much what you would have to do is cancel your existing tablet line, then add it back after March 1.

Kinda easier to do with a tablet since it does have a phone number associated, but it's not relevant since you can't make and receive calls on that number. Plus it would involve a trip to the store for a new SIM card or waiting for one by mail since once you cancel your existing tablet line, the SIM card associated with it will be de-activated, I'm pretty sure you'll need a new one when adding it back.

I actually want to keep the number on my third line, so I'll probably have to port it somewhere else (GV will charge $20), then back to T-Mobile. Again, probably warrants a trip to the store or online order.

I had to use google voice to port my wife's number from Walmart Family Mobile to tmobile. Was very simple to do.

I looked around. It seems there's unlimited "2G" tethering, that is, artificially limited to 512 kbps. If you want 4G tethering, it's $15 for 5 gigs.
You can tether up to 10GB with T-Mo 1 plan.

Here's an article from USAToday that shows who offers corporate discounts.

Unfortunately Tmobile does not.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/...ireless-discounts-you-might-missing/98444326/

If you are running 2 or 3 lines at 100 bucks a month, I am not sure there is a corporate discount, besides employee discount, that would get you to that level. We get 22% with ATT and still doesn't get us down to the same number. It would be 128 bucks a month with 2 phones and a tablet, and thats before taxes and fees, so I am looking at 145 bucks a month.

The only way I see corp discounts getting you close is if you have a single line.

I have 2 lines and a tablet. I straight up asked, can I cancel my tablet plan today and add it back on 3/1.

Response was, it's for new lines only. Wasn't sure what that meant.

From their website:
Free Line: Qual’g credit req’d. Customers cancelling a line after 1/1/17 not eligible. May take up to 2 bill cycles. 1/acct; must keep existing lines. Taxes/fees may be applied to pre-bill credit price on some legacy plans.

Looks like if you cancel or cancelled a line after 1/1, you've screwed yourself and you aren't eligible for this offer. I just cancelled two Mobile Internet lines associated with my tablets (200MB for free for life) in order to take the 2-line, $100/month offer and I'm hoping those don't count as "lines," but I'm doubting it.

Also, some other notes per the website:
  • Works on both ONE and Simple Choice, as long as you have at least two lines.
  • Simple Choice plans' third line will match the lowest data allotment you have (e.g. if you have a 6GB line and an unlimited line, your third line will be 6GB).
  • Free line can be smartphone, tablet or wearable device.

OK I just got off the phone with T-mobile unfortunately I can't change one of my 7 lines to a "free line" but I CAN add a tablet line for free and basically have an unlimited data tablet for free... which I'm ok with.

But you have to do it starting 3/1. But this works for me. Free unlimited data on a tablet means free video all day long! :D

too bad you don't already have a tablet line, you could have just cancelled it today leaving you with 6 and then add it on the 1st for free.

EDIT* Oops never mind just read that customers cancelling lines after 1/17 are not eligible, looks like the smarter folks at T-Mo already thought of this little loop hole.

I can still add the tablet line. I have an LTE iPad Mini that doesn't have a plan on it so it'll probably be getting the Tablet plan. It's too bad that I couldn't just put the free line on a phone. I was thinking I COULD start a new line and then cancel my phone. But that's too big of a pain in the butt to do since I would need a new number.

Yup. I cancelled my hotspot line on Thursday. Oh well. 3 Lines for 120 is still much better than I could do anywhere else.

No I just spoke to them, you will lose the 2GB rebate of $10 per line you get now, and they discount the cheapest line. In your case $20. So your breakdown looks like this:

Line 1 & 2 = $100
Line 3 = $40
Line 4 = $40
Line 5 = $20
Line 6 = $20
Line 7 = free

Total = $220

I just chatted with them and they said you can still get the kick back credit for using <2GB. Said they are separate things. Wonder which one is true o_O anyone else get an answer?
[doublepost=1488233533][/doublepost]
Would I still get credits for switching per line ?
The chat rep I just spoke to said you get 150 per line... they also said you can still get the $10 credit for using <2gb and someone else in this thread talked to someone who said the opposite, so I'm not sure if the 150 per line is true either, ha.

Most things I've seen today say the Kickback is still in play with the new deal. The guy that replied to me is wrong on that account. What this deal does and only does is it gives you a free "Add On" line to whatever you currently have. I have 7 lines right now for phones. I can add 1 more line for a Tablet and get to run that for free going forward.

Everything else is as it was before. This apparently also works for people with one of the previous "Simple" Plans, previously I was getting 2.5gb a month on my lines so for the free line I would get 2.5gb a month. Now that I'm unlimited I get unlimited on my Tablet. This would be best for someone who has a spouse, family member or even a friend who wants to jump and get a super cheap plan 3 lines at $33.34 a line is a killer deal!

I have the most up to date plan and on my bill it looks like this right now:

$120 for Line 1 & 2
$20 for Line 3
$20 for Line 4
$20 for Line 5
$20 for Line 6
$20 for Line 7

Which is $220 for 7 lines before Kickback.
(They ignore the promotion of 2/$100 if you have more than 2 lines on your bill it seems because it's actually the same price as before.)

My next line will be:

$0 for Line 8

My next question is though... do I get a $10 kickback for Line 8 if I don't hit 2gb?

Wait wut? Is the 10 gig tethering without paying extra? Is that per device or per account? Then is it $15 per additional 5 gig AFTER the 10 gig? I may actually switch.

I think they finally convinced me to switch from Verizon. I have three lines (wife on unlocked iPhone SE, grandparents on unlocked iPhone 7, and myself on unlocked iPhone 7) and this would save me quite a bit—about $456/yr plus no activation fees for my iPhone Upgrade Program. Does anyone know if a 15% work discount also applies to this?
Probably not. I get a significant discount on my lan from work but it won't roll over to the new plans.

It's 10 GB per line (device), after that they say tethering slows down to 3G speeds. I think the only option past that is One Plus International, which is $25 extra per month per line where they claim to offer unlimited 4G tethering as well, still subject to de-prioritization if you use more than 28 GB per month.

They don't charge any overages. Just throttle after.

3 for 100 gets you Unlimited data (deprioritization after 28 GB) unlimited talk text international data and texts in 140 countries (data is throttled) and 10 GB of tethering per device.

LOL at the plans a day forever. How about you give me $40.00/mo (tax included) unlimited ONE LINE. It's just me here.

Marginal costs. By pricing the first line to cover your costs of providing service additional lines are simply more revenue and thus you can entice people to add lines by offering cheaper bundled prices. In addition, people feel like they are getting a bundle discount if one line is $80 but two $100; so it's marketed that way.

Promo is for new lines only I believe.
It took a couple of readings of the Q&A , but it looks like you're correct.

Where do people get the price for the 5th line from? All the examples on the website show 4 lines.

This is what I currently have (Simple Choice plan):
Line 1: $40
Line 2: $30
Line 3: $10
Line 4: $10
Line 5: $10
Taxes: $23.50
Total: $133.50

This is what I would get if T-Mo allowed credit for existing line (ONE plan):
Line 1: $70
Line 2: $30
Line 3: $0
Line 4: $40
Line 5: $40 (?)
Taxes: $8 (estimated on line 3, since it's not included in free offer)
Total: $168

This is what I would get with previous offer (ONE plan):
Line 1: $70
Line 2: $50
Line 3: $20
Line 4: $20
Line 5: $20
Total: $180

Considering I usually stay under 2GB of data per line per month, I'll stick with Simple Choice for now.

Can you use the third line as a dedicated hotspot?

It appears not:
"Existing customers with two paid voice lines get a free line whether you’re adding a smartphone line, tablet line or wearable."

You could however add a phone and use it as a hotspot but won't get unlimited LTE data. It makes ense not to include mobile hotspot devices since the service is not intended to support such potentially data hungry uses.

so apparently its $20 per sim? is there a cheaper way to get them? I have no experience with t-mobile and I'm coming from verizon so sims aren't really my specialty :p

When i signed up the T-mobile store rebated the costs of the sims for me.

Each line does get 10gig of LTE data per month though right? So you could setup a phone and tether it for the 10 gig of data?

Since it is the same as any other lines I see no reason you couldn't. I tether on my Simple Choice plan so I assume I would be able to do the same with the additional free line.

You know what's funny?
T-Mobile (Deutsche Telekom) is charging 200€ for 1 line in Germany.
Do they still have that caller pays model in Germany? I can see where that would result in either limited minutes or higher prices.

if you are porting over from another provider just tell them you will move your lines if they waive the cost of the sims. believe me they are not going to lose your business over a couple of $20 sim cards.

So would it be wise to get an unneeded line (for free) to be locked in with this promo or am I being ridiculous (which is what I surmise)?
