I found the catch. After calling T-Mobile again, this time I was told that the offer is only available for customers with an unlimited data plan. So either you have to have a T-Mobile ONE plan, or a grandfathered Simple Choice plan with unlimited data. So since my Simple Choice plan only has 4GB of data on each line, I don't qualify. Upgrading my plan to unlimited data would cost another $82 per month for 8 lines. So not worth it.

And there is my bright idea out the window from a previous post. I'm grandfathered as well.

Maybe it's propaganda but I went from a 64 GB iPhone 6 (with battery issues and no warranty) to a 128 GB iPhone 7 for $140 when they ran the similar promo in September [that one was better because the iPhone 6 upgraded for "free"]. That's a lot less money than it would have cost had I sold my phone. Yes, I'm "locked in" for 2 years but I wasn't planning on leaving T-Mobile (and won't until another carrier with similar or better coverage, speed, and features can offer me a better deal ($23 per month per line after taxes and fees for unlimited talk and text and 2.5 GB [currently 4GB as a bonus promo] of data per month).

My recent trade in went flawlessly. The trade in credits even kicked in faster than expected, which was a nice bonus. I know others have had issues (including you) but the majority of us have had no problems.

How were you able to take advantage of the September deal without switching to the stupid tmobile "one" plan? I was looking at doing pretty much the exact same thing, but the multiple people I spoke with said I had to upgrade to the "one" plan which would have voided a lot of the value I would have gotten out of the iPhone 6 trade in. If you pay $23 per month per line, I don't think you have the "one" plan, correct? Just curious.

I am in a similar situation but one of my lines does have an unlimited data plan. So I was told I could upgrade that one line to take advantage of the promo.

Warning: T-Mobile screws up all the time on these trade-in deals. Be prepared to do everything right and then have to constantly call them for several months to fix the mistakes their craptacular CSRs make. I've had to do that for two upgrade cycles in a row and I will never do it again. I don't care if John Legere promises to hand-deliver the phone himself in a pink tutu. I am not putting up with their crap again.
My order for an iPhone 6s was NEVER completed until I called and talked with someone at T-Mobile. The on-line purchase could never complete itself, and the numbers on the screen did not match my account. I never saw anything about signing up for another plan.

HTC sent me an email about a sale on the newest model HTC 10 for November 21-29. The site is broken, so I sent an email. No response except to tell me they would contact me. Guess they don't ant to sell me a new phone.

Tried to upgrade my phone at the T-Mobile site. It would not budge. Ridiculous!

I'm with ya. It's crazy! I love T-Mobile's network, pricing, and features...but their inability to properly administer these promotional programs is maddening. So much so, that I'm pretty sure I'll leave them next time I want to upgrade. I might pay a little more elsewhere, but I probably won't have to spend hours and hours over the course of days and days trying to fix their broken mistakes.

I just signed up for this as well. I've been using a 6Plus, but I had also purchased a 6S when they came out. I hated the battery life and it has been sitting on my shelf while I went back to the 6P. I'm trading in the 6S, so that makes the value of my trade-in phone worth $669+ instead of the 400-500 I was offered when I put it on Craig's List.

The only downside for me is that the ship date on the new phone won't be until 12/10 at the earliest. (12/10-12/19). As long as you plan to stay with your carrier - and I like Tmobile for city living, I don't see a downside.

It's kind of funky - you have to pay a deposit:
- $149.00
- tax on the new phone
- shipping

And then you get back the 149 deposit once they get your trade in phone - in a couple of billing cycles. My monthly fee goes from $65 for 7GB data to $70 for unlimited... Meh. I wasn't grandfathered in on any unlimited plan anyway, so this makes even more sense for me.

Sure, I can't get an iPhone 8 next year, but I'll be able to get the 8s whenever they come out... This 6Plus has lasted me a long time.

For the new phone, I went with the 7Plus w/ 128 GB, and will have to pay 8.33 per month to cover the $200 cost difference (200/24) - which they wouldn't let me pay up front. I had to agree to smooth that out over two years (interest free). The way I see it, it's like Tmobile is paying for my loyalty.

Can anyone dispute that?

Has anyone who's participated in this had their phone shipped? mine is supposed to ship from 11/30 - 12/5. I see no shipping notice, but I was charged yesterday.
