This is what is happening to me and i have spoken to Tmobile three times to confirm. (mostly because i wanted to make sure i was getting the promotion and so i had more questions)

i thought i would share my situation since there seems to be a lot of mis-information on here. Your best bet is to call them and talk through the different options and scenarios. Each person i talked to was very nice

I am on a family plan with unlimited data etc.....with iphone6 space grey 64gb on the regular Jump program from my upgrade last year. My payment is about $27 a month for the phone plus the jump program insurance.

Current bill looks like this:
$40 family plan
$27 iPhone 6 monthly charge
$10 Jump Insurance/warranty
$77 Total

$6 Taxes and Fees

$83 Grand Total

Now i am upgrading through this promotion Jump On Demand program to iPhone 6s 64gb space grey (same color and size)

I am trading in my current phone which has a trade in value of about $330 according to the rep. ( if i remember correctly) the trade in will wipe out what i have left on my equipment plan.

the current balance on my equipment is LESS than the Trade-In value. My balance is about $320 so they will be putting the difference as a credit to my current bill. So for this example i will see a $10 credit on my next bill. (yes i understand i could have kept the phone and resell it and all that jazz but i dont want to deal with it) By the way i am never going to a tmobile store. they are sending me a prepaid package slip where i can send my trade in phone back to them through UPS.

because i am trading my phone in and going through this promotion my future bill in October or the following bill depending when they process the switch for the trade in.

$40 family plan
$27 iphone 6s monthly charge
$(22) bill credit for the promotion
$8 jump insurance/warrenty (she explained that this was 2bucks cheaper now so i switched)
$53 Total

Up front cost was $99 +tax on the 99 because i am getting 64gb

no tax payment on the Total Phone cost that you had to pay upfront like in the past.

Also keep in mind that the $27 iphone 6s monthly charge is going towards your equipment plan so this will lower your buyout cost at the end awhile still paying less along the way.

hope this helps and i hope its clear.

sorry if its a wall of text

you lost at least $200 on the trade in. You are still paying $5 a month to rent the iphone 6s. You are paying $8 a month in insurance. So you are paying over $350 a year to rent the new iPhone. Not the best deal out there.

i disagree but it depends on your perspective... just by upgrading i am getting a cheaper bill from 83 to 53 and even lower if i get rid of the insurance.

Current
83x12 = 996

New
53x12 = 636
+ 100 down payment
= 736

Just by upgrading i save $260 on my bill over the course of 12 months. I use 12 months because next year i will upgrade again to iphone7

To your point on trading in. If i dont trade in then the cost per month would be $19 with no trade in. (correct me if im wrong)

the future bill would be:

$40 plan
$27 phone
$(8) bill credit
$8 insurance
$67 Total
x12 months
= $804
+100 up front cost for 64gb
=$904

The difference would be
904 - 736 = $168

so maybe i lost $30-40 bucks in trade in but at least i dont have to worry about selling my phone on craiglist

let me know if i mis-understood what you were saying

The problem then is that you have to use your new iPhone 6s on the T Mobile network...which is TERRIBLE! We switched to T Mobile 5 months ago and have had nothing but problems! We live in Indianapolis, hardly a small town, and the cell reception is terrible! You can't rely on the coverage map they show, it's nothing like that. We had to get a wifi booster in our house because the signal was too weak. Most of the time I'm on 4G while driving around Indy, and even when I have an LTE signal it's slow. We have ordered new iPhones from Verizon and are going back, the extra money is worth it!

If you are considering a switch to T Mobile, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. Their website is terrible, cell signal is terrible and the customer service is even worse!

I had the EXACT same issues as you did when I was with T-Mobile and I am in NYC. Not a small town either. The service was great, if I was outside. It went dead as soon as I entered my apartment or any other massive structure that New York has an abundance of. I even had a T-Mobile engineer come out to my area, contact me, and even came over to my place to take signal readings. He even made adjustments to the tower nearby as I sat in my apartment with EDGE or no signal at all.

The straw that broke the camels back was missing out on several jobs (I'm an actor and can get booked for a gig the night before but must get back quickly or get replaced) and it was because I was in a building with no reception. When I added up the costs of losing those jobs, I wrote to the office of the president of T-Mobile and was released from my contract without an ETF. I had already been complaining to them routinely as their maps are indeed inaccurate.

Went to Verizon, no trouble since. Yes it costs more but I can rely on it and the times I have LTE with them vs T-Mobile is night and day. Would I want cheaper? Sure but not if I have to go through with what I experienced with T-Mobile. Don't even get me started about how badly their network fails on a soundstage. So for my circumstances, it's Verizon or bust.

And it's really too bad because T-Mobile has some great deals. I just can't deal with them until they get spectrum that can penetrate a building. Then I'll reconsider. Word has it they have improved but I still think they need more time.

Looks like they took back the "almost any other smartphone deal"

You forgot about your current iPhone 6 which is worth $400 on gazzelle and quite a bit more elsewhere.

He has the 64 gb version and I rounded up. All my numbers are just estimates. No need to go into details to find if these deals are good or not. They are not.

The devil is in the details. You don't know if its a good deal or not until you dive into the details. A perfect condition, unlocked, 64GB iPhone6 gets you only $365 at Gazelle.

Although it is kinda silly that they are giving the exact same trade in value for a 16GB iPhone6 that retailed for $650 as a 128GB iPhone6+ that retailed for $950.

You can, but you'll lose the savings. I signed up for the JoD when it was $15/mo with the trade in of any smartphone. It is $27/mo minus a monthly credit of $12. So if I decide to payoff the phone in say month 6, I'll lose out on $144 by paying it off 12mos early. They know what they're doing ;)
You're correct but he's wrong about JOD being a contract lol. You can't pay off phones on a phone contract, you have to serve your time. Pay off your phone anytime on JOD 18month lease it's just like regular EIP, except EIP don't do upgrades. However you can get multiple phones and any phone you want at anytime as long as your bill is up to date, sales taxes are applicable. Wi With Jump on Demand you're not force to go the entire lease agreement just to pay off the phone. If you want to own your phone before your lease is up. You pay the remainder of the lease and phone balance. On top doing that you can start another lease over. So no it's nothing like a 2yr contract at man, lol. Here go info a pic and links below explaining Jump on Demand buying options while leasing.

Here's a final list of our favorite features of each plan to help you decide:

Sprint
  • Cheaper monthly cost (usually)
  • Option to continue leasing after 2 years without signing new contract
  • More phones available
  • Current Unlimited Plan deal – one month free when you buy on Sprint Lease
T-Mobile
  • Shorter leasing period
  • Can pay off reamaining payments and Purchase Option Price At Anytime
  • Plan includes three yearly upgrades at no extra charge
  • Current iPhone 6 and 6 Plus deal saves you $12 per month, or $216 in total

Not our fault you live in Enfield, New Hampshire. Sounds miserable.

That's incredibly rude. "miserable"? C'mon. I don't know where you live but please don't **** on a place I chose to move to and love very much. I've lived in various parts of Florida and San Francisco. I spend weeks a year in Western Europe and the nordic countries and I love coming back here to enjoy life. Please keep uninformed comments to yourself going forward.

How did i forget about that? I mentioned that without trade-in the JoD would be $904 and with trade-in it would be 736.

you said i lost a gain of $200. not sure where the came from but i was assuming that's the $200 i supposedly lost if i were to sell my iphone6 64gb to random person.

the "suppose gain" i lost would only be 32$ but tmobile is also giving me $10 bonus to tradein so the loss is down to $22 bucks.

anyways it depends on each person situation.

for me its a great deal because i will be saving $360 which is more than $30 a month of savings on my monthly bill.

but i guess agree to disagree. i am stating what happened to me so other people know that this is how it worked for me.

Adding new customers brings in more revenue that can then be spent towards adding more towers / spectrum.

If you read their quarterly/yearly financial results (or follow their CEO on Twitter, he's kind of fun), they're hardly just twiddling their thumbs when it comes to increasing their network size/quality.

You're totally right, that guy have absolutely no idea what he's talking about lol. I can get 4g on my old phonewithout band 12 in my Doctors office now. I'm also getting 4glite with my new phone that has band 12 plus Volte now in the same building. Where I wasn't getting any signal last yr just a big X with emergency calls only displaying. Sad that people don't research nowadays before speaking negative about things. T-Mobile making huge strides with their network, they're not playing about it.

Does anyone know if the trade in has to be in perfect condition? We have one iPhone 5s where the screen is separating from the case and full of pocket lint, but everything still works.

I think it does, we've got a 5c with a crack in the corner of the screen and tmo told me to try and find another iphone yesterday... today of course that has all changed again so I'm going to be paying full price for one of the lines/phones.

It's obviously a bad deal when T-Mobile is offering less for the phone than gazzelle, and we can all agree that gazzelle is not offering a good deal.

Without trade in you still have a phone that you can sell for a good amount. That is what a lot of people forget and that's how T-Mobile will make money.

I would have to sell my phone for $600 or more for it to be a better deal.. anyways you're probably just trolling these threads and telling people how bad of a deal it is without any sense

How did you get that number??
$270 is what you have to beat to get a better deal. $20/month without a trade in; $5/month with trade in; $15x18=270!

I think Judas1 looked over the fact you were on the previous Jump program and that they paid off the phone ($320) and (+) you are getting $15/mo x 12mo ($180) discount = $500 for your previous iPhone. I don't think you can get that much for your phone on any re-sell site. I thought the trade in only applied to the monthly discount, but you are saying you get the value for your trade plus a discount on the new iPhone. Or this might be a special case for older Jump plan participants.

I also think you are slightly miscalculating your savings since you are not including the $6/mo tax in your new bill ($72). The taxes will most likely be very similar since there are no taxes on the equipment fees, which is where you are getting the majority of your savings.

I think it might be intensional on T-Mobile's part, but people seem to think they're getting credit for the value of their trade-in in addition to monthly credits for the new phone, but I read it that T-Mobile is giving credit for the trade-in as the monthly credits. That makes more sense since people want the new phone so much they forget that their current phone is still valuable. The amount T-Mobile is paying for your phone is $270 which is less than gazzelle which is much less than fair market value.

its an estimate of course and yeah i dont know what my taxes are. My thinking is i am getting taxed before and after so they will cancel each other out in terms of savings.
