I am looking at their website and it appears that it will be a new plan and won't replace the current plans.

Edited to add: Looking further on the site, you may be right. I think T-Mobile is changing the plans and those that want unlimited 5G now and in the future will need to get the new plan.
yeah the website currently advertises the new plans but only gives you the option of the three existing plans, as the new ones launch in two days. IMO it's unclear whether the new ones will be additions or substitutions.

Prices just keep rising for T-Mobile... they are truly the next AT&T... So glad I have a grandfathered unlimited plan with T-Mobile. 6 lines for $160. Unlimited.

Still using my grand fathered T-Mobile One plan. I pay about $37/month (taxes included). It comes with Nexflix which T-Mobile cover $10.99, I pay $7/month for Netflix HD on 5 screens. The new plans are expensive in comparison.

I'm still on their ONE plan as well (single line though). I pay $56/month -- which includes a 20% hookup discount I got after I initially switched from AT&T. I too have noticed the price increases from when they introduced Magenta to this new plan.

Thank goodness I’m still grandfathered in to my old unlimited plan. I pay $30/mo/line for what is essentially the standard Magenta plan, just called Simple Choice or something.

So far none of their new plans have come close in value.

Yes! Competition is great. Hopefully the other guys will follow suit soon. Its been a real cat and mouse game over the last few years thanks to t-mobile putting pressure on the industry.

I am paying $50 a month for unlimited data. I don't see a need to get the new plan.
Right, but the fine print on your plan states you could get throttled after using x amount of GBs. (As explained in the article) This new plan differs in that you will never get throttled. It’s a true unlimited plan that we haven’t seen for many years.

That is a good point. However, I haven't been throttled and until I am, (on a regular basis) I am sticking with the plan I have.

Ignore them. If you have one of the older T-Mobile unlimited plans you likely have unlimited data without throttling, which means it's not totally different. If you have one of the newer unlimited plans then the 4G may have been throttled after a set amount, in which case it's sort of different.

This idea that unlimited only applies to one component of a vector is an intentionally misleading marking construct that needs to be regulated out of existence. I really hope t-mobile embraces this as the standard plan everyone gets and then goes after the other players for promoting confusion. (Even if temporarily they were part of the problem.)

The Unlimited, Unlimited deal?

Exactly.

Words have meaning. It's sad when you have to add another word to say what you mean.

Unlimited! (well not really... we'll throttle you after you reach the, uh, limit ...)

Oh wait... now we have truly unlimited... yeah... that's the ticket!

:p

The linked press statement from T-Mobile's PR room gives details that the Magenta MAX plan replaces the current Magenta Plus plan, and the "Magenta (new)" replaces the current Magenta plan.

It's actually a rather clever and long-winded way to announce a price hike. These "limited time" prices on the table are actually just the current prices for the tiers that are being replaced. In essence, new perks, but price hikes across the board.

Yep... that's how the carriers do it.

They won't simply raise prices. Instead... they will destroy the old plans and introduce new plans every so often.

They intentionally make it confusing so you can't see what they're really doing. And it makes it so you can't directly compare the new plans with the old plan you're on now.

The plan you have from 2018 doesn't even exist anymore. So when you go into the store to buy a new phone today... there's an entirely new menu of choices.

It's clever... but we're onto them! The bastards!

:p

I’m currently on magenta plus. I wonder if my insider discounts and free lines will carry over if I upgrade to the max plans. I have two free lines and a 20% insider discount......
