We were with T-mobile for years, and it was, you know, ok. Switched to ATT for iPhone. Even though the service was supposedly better in our area, I still dropped calls all the time. And let's not forget that world class customer service or the awesome prices... Switched back to T-mobile the last day the iPhone 5 was sold in the ATT store. Used my brother's upgrade price - should have sprung for the 32GB - and popped the Tmobile SIM in it. Even though the coverage is supposedly worse (and it's not the greatest obviously) I still seem to drop fewer calls than I did with ATT. Maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me because I'm paying half the price for twice the lines, with no contract, no bogus overage charges, and halfway decent customer service. Either way I'm a much happier customer.

He's like Amazon's Jeff Bezos, a market disruptor. We need more risk taking CEOs to make competition favor the consumer.

He's nothing like Bezos. He's not trying to destroy an industry (and his own company) just to make a buck. He has long term vision.

----------

I wonder about this. He has a long history as a suit wearing, straight laced executive. Did he really hide his true personality his entire career up to this point or is this just a brilliant marketing ploy?

If this is his real personality (and I believe it is), then yes, he really did hide himself under a suit. That's what you do if you want to succeed in business and you're working somewhere buttoned up.

No one wondering what the #$@% that is sitting on the, for us viewers, left chair? Sounds like a guy, looks like errr... not really a guy.

 [a] store without the iPhone is *****,""

You can't say that on television..

He should have bought an iPhone 6 Plus with him, and demonstrated how easy it is to bend in your back pocket.

Oh hey, time traveller from the 1950s. Yeah, welcome to 2014. Turns out that treating people who cross over from one gender to another with respect doesn't actually bring civilization to a screeching halt as was previously feared back in the superstitious old days. So we're all sort of treating them like equals nowadays instead of making snide, narrow-minded comments about their life choices.

I know, crazy, huh? But it actually seems to work.

To be fair, SoftBank aren't a giant Japanese conglomerate, quite the opposite. They're a new(ish) and nimble company, who shook up the Japanese mobile market - a risk taker in a country of ultra conservative, slow moving, flat managed companies. Son-san himself is one of the most outspoken Japanese CEOs. Not so different after all.

Mr. Son is perhaps one of the most outspoken Japanese CEOs because........(wait for it) ......he’s a KOREAN!

And those guys are risk takers and yet astute business managers. Yup, as the ‘second richest person in japan’ Mr. Son is a Korean though I think he may have recently taken Japanese citizenship to facilitate his broad business dealings in a xenophobic country that looks down their noses at all ‘gaijin’ (foreigners), especially the widely disliked Koreans.

Huh?

T-Mobile are owned by Deutsche Telekom AG, always have been.

DT has been wanting to get rid of (sell) T-Mo USA for a long time. No secret there. But at least parent DT has pretty much allowed Legere to run T-Mobile autonomously. If the company is sold to another owner, then it changes whatever strategies and trajectory Legere has right now.

We do, but I like the term, 'Everything in moderation’. he’s over the top. I just wind up thinking what a fool he seems.

He has a big mouth, he's a salesman, and he ought to be intelligent enough to express himself without using that language.

But he also makes a lot of worthwhile and insightful statements, so I'll often watch an entire 90 minute presentation of his.

I think John Legere is one hell of a CEO and I T-Mobile has done an incredible job shaking up the wireless industry.

That being said, T-Mobile's service (coverage-wise) is atrocious, I switched from Sprint (a really bad service provider in its own right) and I was impressed with the data speeds in the few areas that I had solid coverage but I had such little coverage that I ultimately switched to Verizon when I got my iPhone 6 and haven't looked back.

Verizon and AT&T are the only good carriers in the US and while they're pricier than T-Mobile and Sprint, you definitely get what you pay for.

I still think you should paying less for what you're getting with AT&T and Verizon. I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile 7 months ago and so far it's been a better experience that what I had with Verizon. So far everywhere I went in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and California, I had great coverage and faster data speeds than Verizon. I went to Europe for 3 weeks last month and even the reduced data speeds were good enough for apps, email, text messages, FB, Twitter, limited web browsing, etc. Actually in Germany and Switzerland I often got 3G data speeds with mostly 2G data speeds in rural Denmark where my uncle lives. Coverage was also good over there, even in the Alps as my train went from Basel to Locarno. My phone was rocking full strength at the Oktoberfest in Munich. I made dozens of calls and had a charge of $31 for those 3 weeks. :)

Yes, I imagine that person already has enough trouble in life as it is - probably doesn't need to be made fun of.

I think too many people are caught up in the Uncarrier hype to look at the real facts.

- They're growing rapidly... mostly at the expense of Sprint, not AT&T/VZW. It's hardly surprising as they both go after the same "bottom of the totem" pole customer.

- They're still unprofitable... they posted a net loss

- They're still loosing more customers than adding them. Their churn rate is 1.6%. AT&T/VZW are right around 1%.

http://bgr.com/2014/10/28/t-mobile-q3-2014-earnings/

However... I will say this. They have quoted that they're around 250 million POP for LTE coverage right now. 300 million by end of 2015. With the 600mhz spectrum auction being delayed, it's going to be tough to expand past that number.

I highly doubt Sprint will get close by next year. Pathetic when NV has been going on for ages now. T-Mobile will leap-frog Sprint very soon. There are too many questionable decisions being made by the Sprint board. Example being their implementation of HD Voice not being cross-carrier compatible.

You're probably right about people being caught up in the uncarrier hype, but even more people seem to be brainwashed into thinking they have no choice but to bend over for AT&T/Verizon for the "best" service. Europeans laugh at us for paying (even T-Mobile & Sprint customers) the prices we do. You can't blame some people from becoming excited, even if that excitement may be a little premature. Some of us have visited other countries so we know the situation could be much better.

You bring up a valid point, but for the overwhelming majority (over 200 million customers), AT&T/VZW do provide the best service. Their network is expansive and their service is reliable.

I go all over the Northeast. The only place where T-Mobile service rivals AT&T/VZW is NYC and that's it. Even with their super dense network there... you still see instances where the big two are on LTE and TMo is on EDGE.

Eventually, I'd like to give t-mobile a try. Right now their coverage is not excellent in my neck of the woods.

Must give Mr. Legere props for shaking up the cell phone industry here. I appreciate him being forward about the Apple SIMs too.

.

That being said, T-Mobile's service (coverage-wise) is atrocious, .

Well that depends on where you are. We all have our anecdotal stories. I live on the North end of Los Angeles right up against the foothills in a small valley (Crescenta Valley). Historically - Verizon did the best for service and I was with them since they were Airtouch Cellular. But I just switched with this new iphone because their prices were insane and they overcharged me and admitted their mistake and would NOT credit me(200 dollars over 6 months).
Only AFTER I switched when they wanted me to come back did they offer to credit me half. lame!
Now they have cheaper plans I could have switched to but (surprise!) comes with 45 dollar "line fee?!" no thanks.

I decided to jump to T-Mobile for a lot of what they are doing, never mind the way cheaper price for the same plan options. With the wi-fi calling feature - I am now getting better coverage than other people around me on At&T and Verizon (in my place of work and in my house - due to wi-fi calling). Data speeds are fantastic. I have noticed minimal differences in calling while Im outside. They also told me on the phone they are planning some big coverage improvements in the next year.

No more contract, I own my unlocked iphone 6, and WAY cheaper prices, and so far my coverage has been even better in buildings than others due to wifi calling and outside I have had no complaints.

Glad to be riding the wave of the future.
T-mobile is where its at.

I ordered my 6 Plus from T-Mobile on Oct 5th and got a email saying it's back-ordered and that it could be up to 8 weeks before anything ships then out of no where three days later the phone showed up.

According to their coverage map they only offer 2G service here which I was okay with because I don't use a lot of data and 95% of the time am connected to a wifi network but the last two weeks or so I've suddenly been getting LTE data and the coverage map is still saying 2G for my area is the only thing avaliable.

So, I guess they really are upgrading their network or I'm just special.
