Which tablet OS do you like the most? (excluding external factors like apps)

It will be good to play with the iPad 2 next week and see how much of an improvement it is over the original. I have read anything about the Touchpad for a while, have you? I think HP has a slight chance to do it right.

I'm so excited to get my iPad 2!!! haha

no there's not too much to be said about the touchpad because it won't be released till this summer, and hardware-wise there's nothing too impressive about it. The iPad 2 will win that fight against the touchpad.

and I agree that if HP really backs WebOS it has the horsepower to really push it hard. Since they are planning to release desktops with webOS then I think they mean business! and yes I would say that webOS 3 is the only mobile OS that outclasses iOS 4, but the problem for HP is that webOS 3 won't be competing with iOS 4, iOS 5 will be out by that point. and IMO iOS 5 will rock the world (at least I'm really hoping!) if Lion is any indication of iOS 5 :)

Good news for webOS for sure.

Two things. First, it shows the HP is serious about this OS. They will put the time and effort into it, not just treat it as some hobby that they will dismiss if it fails. Secondly, with such a huge base of webOS devices on the way developers can get serious about working on the platform.

Honestly if I weren't so invested Apple products (mac for 4 years, iPhone for 3 years, iPad for negative 1 day :p ) then I would seriously consider webOS.

If I were deciding right now what direction to go, I would definitely hold off till this summer. Then I would objectively compare the iPhone 5/iPad2/iOS 5 to Pre 3/TouchPad/WebOS 3. I think ultimately I would still go iOS (beause I am expecting great things from iOS 5), but if HP had gotten their act together a year earlier(or even just 6 months with a January 2011 release), HP wins IMO against iPhone 4/iPad 1/iOS4.

It will be nice to check out the iPad 2 over the weekend. I won't go until the furor dies down a bit. It sounds good from what I have read. I think WebOs has a chance if HP does it right. It looks like they are looking at the big picture which is an absolute must if they want to have any long term success. They need to tie all the devices and apps together.

The more I used my iPad 2 this past week, the more I really started to appreciate iOS. I played around with a xoom in a store, and although honeycomb has some substantial improvements to iOS (like notifications, widgets) I've learned that I really like the way iOS is handled. The dock, the app centric interface, honestly even the multitasking UI (which I thought would be awful on a tablet) all seemed like a much more elegant and fluid way of doing things than Honeycomb.

I'm even starting to rethink my idea that WebOS 3.0 is superior to iOS 4. Obviously I haven't been able to try out webOS for myself, and I still think it is going to be an absolutely fantastic mobile OS, iOS seems to have just the right amount of everything. The one real nag is the notification system. A dashboard of widgets would be nice too. I'd bet money that both of those things will be on iOS 5, so I'm feeling pretty happy about the future of iOS :)

Early April can't come soon enough!! (assuming that's when they reveal iOS 5) but then I'll still have to wait till summer to get it :(

Just to clarify what you are saying:

Are you saying no one company will hold a double digit tablet sales, or are you talking about platforms?

EG: Android tablets will never get a double digit share of the tablet market within 2 years?

I was talking tablet makers, hardware. Which perhaps was a bit off-topic, considering the thread is about OS's.
Now, I think it's very possible that Android as a whole doesn't hit 10% share within the two next years. Basing the thinking about Android tablets prospect on Android smartphone success seems to be a misconception.
