Many ideas that Apple patent never see the light of day.

These may happen, or may not.

Many companies use patents as a weapon - limiting other companies from producing the same item.

Who knows whether this wireless charging technology will actually appear in the iPhone.

Technologies that apple has been working on for years are finally going to come to the forefront.

First off, true wireless charging:

No mats, none of that nonsense. Just walk into your home and start charging (which will quickly turn into availability at locations like starbucks, mcdonalds, etc). The technology will spread like wifi did and be ubiquitous within 5 years, prompting us to ask why we ever though charging mats were "innovative" in the first place.

I just wonder who is more greedy in this story.
Apple.

Lol having some nice dreams there.

I've been watching the development of this technology for 3 years. It's coming soon. Feel free to set a calendar reminder to follow up on this post by November 2017.

As I pointed out in a previous post, that patent is not even about room sized charging. At least, not directly.

It's about relaying wireless power between devices that are close to each other.

E.g. your Mac wirelessly powers a nearby keyboard, which relays some of that power to headphones on your head, which relay some of the power to your phone on a table behind you.

It's a really lossy way to do things. And of course if you move one relay point out of range, everything after it in the relay chain is out of luck. Still, it's clever.

How crazy is it that I the consumer expect better value from Apple rather than paying a premium price for yet another incremental, spec-bumped iPhone release that pales technologically in comparison to other 2016 competitor flagships at similar price points?

Solution: don't buy it. Glad I could help.

2017 Is too early and electricisity lost and costs are still too much for anyone. 2009 in a Ted talk same things were done. That was 7 years ago now.

Source on "too early" and "costs"?

Samsung is working on the exact same thing, if they release it next year is that going to be "too early"?

That's not even the point. Knowledgable (non lemming) Apple consumers come to expect the very best from Apple when shelling out hard earned money for a flagship device. My point being that I begrudgingly could be one of these folks this fall. The rumors of this device don't exactly excite or inspire me. But that's just my opinion. We'll see what the keynote brings before deciding.
