they wouldn't know the casing was changed?

But you said it was noticeable. It depends, I would say if it looks like it was just OPENED you could say you swapped the RAM/HD, as long as everything else look like it wasn't tampered with.

i have a mbp,ok well my serial number for the machine was a stick on the bottom underneath my battery which I removed. Is the serial number you talking about go with the casing or the machine? is the number inside or outside of the case?

Okay, we are really trying to help you here but you refuse to adhere to my requests. I asked you which MBP do you have? Give us the model, year and specs, Unibody/non Unibody? We need pics of the serial number area. This will be my last post if you can't provide ALL of this, we cannot help you with words alone.

Cool, that helps a lot. :). Someone mentioned earlier that the serial is also etched as well as using a sticker. If you're want to be completely sure the only way is to take your Mac into an Apple genius or authorized repair center and just ask for diagnostic check to be sure everything is working well, tell them you're selling it and you want to transfer what's left of the warranty to the new owner. At that point they will let you know if you're warranty is voided or not.

EDIT:. You placed a pic from the Apple website? Where's YOUR pic?

This whole thing has a weird feel to it. You had the competency to completely replace the MBP case but cant post a picture.

Warranty is totally void. You want apple to warrant a computer that was WRECKED IN A CAR??

Keep dreaming. If it had been repaired by a certified tech all the screws would be there and the tape replaced. You will either need to a) pay to have someone competent do the complete repair again, in which case you cannot have the warranty restored because it will be noted against your serial number that an unauthorized repair was performed, or b) deal with it.

Couldnt have said it better myself.

Eh, I think you will be fine.

Apple knew I was inside my case to replace my HD on my own and they couldn't care less. My warranty was still honored on some work I needed done to it.

The only way I see it not being covered is if they check the case for a SN. They always just check the operating system, its easier to read.

I think you are fine.

My situation is a little different than his. I'm looking at buying a MBP from an authorized dealer (Best Buy) and I want them to install more RAM. Will that void the warranty?

Aznando

*EDIT* Found the answer, it doesn't.

dude, you've massively voided your warranty. just accept it and be thankful your computer still works.

Ram/ hard drive ARE user replaceable and still keeps the warranty. The user can not touch or change ANYTHING else without voiding the warranty.

Sorry but your out of luck dude. Just hope it never needs any repairs.
