taking my MacbookPro 13.3" abroad

I guess it depends upon the deals you'll miss out on. If they are relatively minor than leave the laptop at home and enjoy your vacation. Too many people work while they are supposedly trying to relax. I don't get it.

they are yes but they are for the company i work for not for myself!

You know, I totally missed this post. Don't take it! F your company. It's your holiday - enjoy it! Vacations are infinitely better without the digitals.

Posted as a small business owner.;)

the thing is the company paid for my holiday, and part of the deal was doing these deals! im not gonna discuss the deals as they are private but they would seriously mean hundreds of thousands of pounds!

i really dont know how they expected me to do it without my own laptop! and i know for a fact if something happend to it, if it was stolen they would not replace it as they would tell me i took it on my own decision

it will also help as well in the hotel room because there is no TV haha! and for the rainy days there is nothing better than room service paid by your work and a few films!

anyone know what insurance i can get out on it?

Hey, I just took out a policy for my laptop, since I'm heading to uni soon.

It's £55/year, covering up to £1000. It covers accidental damage, theft, loss, and all of this internationally for up to 30 days.
It's with a company called Endsleigh who I'm doing other stuff with too.

But do shop around, I've no idea how good value it is. Seemed ok to me, means I can happily take my Air everywhere; café, train, hiking (!), travelling &c. Peace of mind

I travel with my MBP 17" even when I have a pc laptop from the company.

One time I travelled with a third demo laptop. That was interesting.

hmmm that insurance is worth thinking about! because i use the laptop on the motorbike aswell!

another thing i was thinking about, do you think it would be safe to keep my laptop in the hotel room while i say hang up all my clothes and then with the empty suitcase stick the laptop in there with a lock on it?

or, i know there will be a chest of drawers in the room, i could pull out the bottom drawer and stick it under there?

that is exactly what i think haha and i would not think twice about leaving my macbook in a travelodge and i dont trust other countries!

Did you check with the hotel if there was a safe in your room or not?

And why can't your work give you an office laptop/pay for insurance on yours?

Also, if I was as jumpy as you about it I just wouldn't be leaving it in the room. Just do the old trick of always having it on your person and if you put it down you make sure you're holding onto the strap. Make it difficult for people to steal from you and they probably won't bother.

When no safe available, I hide mine in plain sight. They're thin. Get some imagination.

When leaving the room, you also want to keep the TV on to news channel or talk shows, keep a light on in the bathroom with its door shut and put a do not disturb sign out.

Try and talk to maid before leaving for day and tell them no cleaning is necessary and just exchange towels.

Hotel room safe typically are not large enough for laptops.

Insurance from work? They would think you are joking, unless you are someone important.
