I just added a new poll item - Filtered Tap Water - because that's what I use. We have a separate tap just for the filtered water. In our old house we had the Britta attachment on the spigot.

D

there's filtered water from the fridge.

Sometimes the spigot is so slow that I just put my mouth under it and turn it on.. I don't like waiting for a cup to fill up.

Good thinking. Too bad I can't change my vote to that one now... :( ;)

After giving a little thought to it, I hadn't really considered the fact that a good number of people on here are getting big-city tap water which is quite different from small-town-reservoir tap water.

Our reservoir serves a town of 1,500 and is about a mile out of the center of town. It all comes from the crispest, coolest, brightest-blue lake around, smack on top of the biggest mountain in town. It's filtered and then very lightly chlorinated...no other chemicals added. It's really quite tasty, and I'd prefer a glass of it with ice over most of the bottled waters out there, which (to me) have a bit of a plasticky taste to them.

The only time I have a problem with out water is after a few days of big rainstorms, when it can come out tasting a little 'lake-y'. :p

We most often use water that comes out of a filtered tap next to our regular tap and our refridgerated filter-y tasting water that needs a filter change, and very occasionally from unfiltered tap. Unfiltered tap is not horrible, but not Evian that's for sure, Dang Sure!

Our city also mails all residents water reports. Odd, but I guess it's law?

Kinda reminds me of Houston:
Ever since tropical storm Allison came through Houston, the water has tasted a little funky. We got a brita, then we got a fridge with the water thingiee installed. We haven't looked back since. :D

Well, the tap water in my part of town smells like chlorine, so for drinking water comes from one of the 3 Britas we have in the fridge. Cooking water comes from the tap, and when I drink bottled water (out working, or in the basement after mowing the lawn), it's usually Poland Spring.
Last summer, my former employer started carrying this "Ultra-filtered" water. It cost (and probably still does) $2.50 for .5L. I stayed away from it until they gave out free samples. I tried it, and it tasted exactly like Evian, except at twice the price.

tap water mostly .. only drink bottled when in a restaurant or on the go... oh yeah and during holidays when i'm somewhere like italy or leipzig etc. where the water smells like swimming pool and i smell more after showering

in my flat here the water from the tap is thankfully cold enough already

what is that brita thing people talking about.. anybody got a link ?

I used to own a Britta water filter. In fact I still do although it was very rarely used to actually filter water. I used it to turn cheap vodka into nice vodka.

Does that really work? :D

Hell yes! Take one britta water filter and some vodka. Filter said vodka through the filter about six times (it does go quite quickly really with these new filters). Then consume.

I've done it many times now and have done blind taste tests with friends several times, comparing the original unfiltered vodka, the filtered vodka and some really expensive vodka. Not once has the unfiltered vodka been called the worst and 9/10 times its rated the best tasteing. I kid you not! Next time you plan on going out, get them to come round for drinks and try it out for yourself. :)

Well, I'll just have to give that a try next time - thanks for the tip! ;) :)

A brita filter where I am right now. The tap water here taste just bad. It also has a little over the legel limit for find particals. They has an expetions from the EPA because they are basicly pumping up mud. It safe to drink I just can not stand it.

When I go home the tap in houston taste just fine.

In lubbock it is either filtered or bottled. I can not stand the tap.

Trust me, it does work. The benefits aren't just top quality vodka for the price of cheapo stuff. You have far less of a hangover the next day too!

If you want to experiment a bit more, get several bags of skittles, open them all, sort them out into colours and then put them into filtered bottles of vodka. My favourite's a red/purple mix. you should put in enough the bottom fifth of the bottle is full of skittles. Then leave and wait for them to dissolve. If you want to speed up the process you can put the bottle on a radiator, in the sink full of hot water or put it through a wash (lid on obviously) in the dishwasher on hot wash. If you're a perfectionist, ciphern off the bits of white stuff that are left floating on the top, that's just remnants that couldn't be disolved.

You can tell I'm a student, can't you!!

Edit: The best way to serve the skittle vodka in my opinion is to serve it with lemonade on ice. I made a few bottles of this stuff a few months ago for a party, all the vodka was gone in the first twenty minutes because with the filteredness, skittles and a bit of lemonade you couldn't even taste the alcohol. The effect were sure witnessed though! ;)

I usually drink bottled water (Aquafina) at work because the stuff from the tap tastes a bit.... odd. At home we have a water cooler which gets topped off with one of those HUGE bottles from the grocery store (or home depot). Very good water indeed.

My tap water is your guys bottled water!!!
Actually I laugh somedays when I see the yuppies lugging around their labelled water bottle which I know is the same water as in the taps ( Canadian Springs, Presidents Choice, No Name and a couple others I cant remember are just the same as the tap water.)
Tap water here is great most of the year except at the end of august when the reserviors get below 30% (yuck)
Now Okanagan water is so nasty and chlorinated you can put it in a swimming pool and be done. And drinking it makes you want to throw up...eventually you get used to it but dont enjoy it...

Well, there are no glaciers anywhere near where they are, so I'm a bit sceptical to the "covered by ice and rocks"-part... ;)

They probably just use a local water source at Iveland, it might be a different one than the local water works, but then again it might not. Either way it's probably high quality, but still no better than ordinary Norwegian tap water. :)

I seem to remember hearing that that Voss water is only exported, it's not sold in Norway. Some of the other students in my Chinese class at UiO brought a few bottles back from Shanghai  :D . They were laughing about going all the way to China, and drinking Norwegian water.

I don't get why anyone would drag around a glass bottle. If you drop you bag and it breaks, soaking everything and and leaving bits of glass everywhere...

I'll drink whatever doesn't taste like a chemical sludge. Tap water in my city is generally good. Meanwhile, in the town in Southern California where my sister lives, it's disgusting.

Bottled - but there should be a different selection on the poll too
We get spring water delivered in 5 gal jugs for our coolers -- I never touch the expensive bottled-tap-water-in-.5l-plastic-bottles stuff which I think is insane.

Our tap water is great, generally, very soft, but they do use chloramine, and there is occasionally a parasite outbreak.

The water we get is bottled from a natural spring on the side of a mountain about 30 miles from here. The fellow who owned the property and bottles the water was a big Mac fan and a seminal member of the Canadian ehMac forum, but was killed about a month ago; he was photographing motorcycle drag races when one of the bikes crashed at high speed and came off the track -- right where Gerry was. His family is continuing the bottling business.

 Woah, that's crazy!! Its great that his family is carrying on the business.

Who would have thought a discussion about bottled water would take a twist like that.:(

I filter water to make tea, but when I'm drinking plain water I don't bother. Doesn't affect the taste for me (I'm with Thames Water).

Actually I was just about to say "I think filters are worse for your health because they remove all the minerals" but I just looked on Wikipedia and apparently they don't. Lucky escape there, could have been embarrassing. :D

Nevertheless, it does annoy me when people say they use Britta filters for 'health benefits' and they bring out an old, scummy filter jug that hasn't been cleaned in months - and which they keep refilling new-into-old without ever emptying

I remember when I was on exchange in Germany, they thought I was crazy for drinking water from the tap. There was nothing wrong with it at all, but they always drank bottled and it was usually carbonated.
Where in Germany was that supposed to be? Actually I can't imagine that they called you crazy for that, since I know so many people drinking tap water over here...

The tap water in Germany is usually very very good. And most people I know drink tap water because it tastes just as good as bottled water. I do it myself all the time.

BUT... here in Germany carbonated water is way more popular in restaurants. They also don't serve water with the dishes for free like in some other countries.

I lived in a small village a few kilometers from Marburg in Hessen. I thought the water was fine, but they didn't like it for some reason.

I buy Poland Spring 35 packs of .5 liter water for 5 bucks, less than 15¢ a bottle. The cafeteria in my office building sells them for $1.50.
