Oh I never said that everyone on twitter is a nazi.

But if one prefers to not get routinely harassed by nazis, other platforms such as BlueSky and Mastodon are a better choice. The blocking tools alone are a big reason why, along with their lack of an algo that promotes that content and users. There are nazis on these platforms too but it’s much easier to ignore them.

Just say it as it is. Its just people you disagree with. We used to just call that opposing views and we used to debate the issues. "Nazi" is such an abused word now it means literally nothing.

I can't understand those artists who migrate to Bluesky, a platform limiting the resolution to 2000 * 2000 pixels (in contrast to 4096 * 4096 pixels on X).

No need to use a watered down descriptor like “people I disagree with” for users (or bots) with swastikas in their profile.

As flattered as I am at your interest in my experience, we’re getting off topic.

I look forward to a quality app like Phoenix, and hope they deploy excellent muting or blocking features, in case there are “people I disagree with” ;) sending threats.

Bluesky still does not have private accounts as of right now.
At least they are moving the right direction with limiting who can reply.

This is a good news for Bluesky users, but a bad one for current Ivory (Mastodon) ones.

The last release already took 5 months to be released (they mentioned it was being tricky but now it's evident they were also working on something else) and they also mention Ivory development will be further slowed down.

There is still a lot of work to be done in Ivory and now I feel my subscription money is being used to fund an app I'm not going to use.

Try to see this the other way around: imagine using Bluesky app and they announce they will work on a Mastodon one for the next months while your beloved Bluesky one remains outdated.

BlueSky is much more popular than Mastodon and many institution account are migrating there from Mastodon

Too much attention to cheap clone. So, when is bluesky planning to release their own AI assistant? You know, to include the highly valuable opinions of left-leaning political discourse fact-checked information.

Oh btw, Deepseek can be a great AI partner for BSK. Just sayin’

Are you saying that you're confused by Mastodon? Or that you're confused that they do/don't support Mastodon? (They do, that's Ivory.)
Sorry, Was speed typing, I find the mastodon platform confusing and just haven't been able to get myself using it, however Bluesky is something I have been using and enjoying! Definitely not perfect, and needs improvements, but it's my preference of the two.

I never could find any use for Twitter. Is blue sky very similar?

IMO they're functionally similar but have a very different vibe.

X is largely overrun with bots, spam, trolls, and nazis, which makes the comments to almost any tweet a sewer you have to wade through.

Bluesky is great, but still lacking experts in certain niches.

The value of both apps is that it's the place where breaking news are... um, broken.

You see it there first, and you get commentary and expert opinions from a variety of people and experts as the event unfolds.

You could read the best possible newspaper or publication in the world, but even then you are only getting one single perspective into the event.

Plus, you usually get that perspective significantly after the news has happened rather than in real time.

I find tremendous value in being able to skim through many different expert's view points quickly.

The downside is that it requires that you seek out the right people on the platform to follow first and that is a huge onboarding problem for new users of apps like this.

My only fear is that Bluesky will suffer the same effect as Twitter. I signed up for Twitter in 2008 because my electric company said that's where they were going to make announcements about power outages, estimated restoration times, where work was being done, etc. When you live in New Hampshire, this is WAY more useful than trying to call the automated line which was always swamped with calls during every snowstorm.

The more popular Twitter got, the more it attracted the attention of bad actors. Now, I know that BlueSky has taken measure to prevent a Musk-like takeover (open source, anyone can start a BlueSky clone, according to one of the execs) but it will be interesting to see what happens as BlueSky approaches old Twitter numbers when it comes to users.

I used Twitter mainly as an RSS feed. Like I get updated whenever Macrumours or Ars or TheVerge releases an article. I think a lot of celebrities and creators are on Twitter as well. Like vtubers seem to overwhelmingly favour the platform when communicating with their fans.

At the end of the day, it’s not about the features. It’s who’s on the platform that matters.

That's what I was looking for, thanks! I really only use social media to follow and interact with people I personally know, not news, or celebrities, memes, or whatever.

Mastodon has a steeper learning curve, but has the advantage of not being yet another social media platform owned by a big corporation that could very well turn evil (or negligently indifferent) in the future (see Facebook, Twitter). So I see it as worth the effort. BlueSky seems fairly positive right now, but what assurances do we have that it won't go down the Twitter path in the future?
