The fine article doesn’t mention this, but hopefully they’ll do an iPad version too. The lack of one is what is keeping me from trying Bluesky.
Yea, that's the first thing I looked for in the article. Mastodon, which has a much smaller user base, has a really nice native iPad app but BlueSky still doesn't. There's a third-party called GraySky, but it requires iPadOS 17 or higher but my 5G iPad can't run anything past iPadOS 16. So, I use the Chrome to access BlueSky on my iPad.

Tapbots is a great company. They always have such lovely design.

Too bad I will never buy this. I think I'm just done with social media altogether, aside from LinkedIn, which is a necessary evil for those who wish to make money.

Or maybe I will buy this. I'm in the process of founding a game studio and will need to promote my game and gather customer feedback once it is released. Dammit! I can't escape it, can I?

I got thrown off Twitter a few years ago for supposedly “threatening” someone, which was utter b.s.

Then M*sk buys it, the high profile people who got thrown off somehow found a way to whine and appeal to get their account reinstated, but nobodies like me are still suspended.

When you go to Google News they still quote Twitter X posts in topic summaries. Not Threads posts, not Bluesky posts, not Mastadon posts. Like another poster upstream said, many municipalities have agencies that post emergency or other timely information to X. The clout is still with X. (I still hate what they did to Tapbots.) As a result I’ve stayed on the sidelines and not joined Bluesky or Mastadon.

Tapbots confirmed iPad app as well.

Aaaaand Phoenix will remember your scroll position in timeline, unlike the official app 🤦🏻‍♂️

There are already other third party Bluesky apps that also have iPad support (although not always the best UI, Skeets is the best I think) and I know some of these also remember scroll position (e.g. Skeets) see complete list: Skeets for Bluesky, Graysky, a Bluesky client, Openvibe, SoraSNS

This is a good news for Bluesky users, but a bad one for current Ivory (Mastodon) ones.

The last release already took 5 months to be released (they mentioned it was being tricky but now it's evident they were also working on something else) and they also mention Ivory development will be further slowed down.

There is still a lot of work to be done in Ivory and now I feel my subscription money is being used to fund an app I'm not going to use.

Try to see this the other way around: imagine using Bluesky app and they announce they will work on a Mastodon one for the next months while your beloved Bluesky one remains outdated.
There are already other great third party Mastodon apps that in quite some cases offer more features (and are frequently updated and some without a subscription) then Ivory currently does to name a few: Ice Cubes for Mastodon, Mona for Mastodon, Woolly for Mastodon, trunks for Mastodon, Tusker, Openvibe, Dawn for Moastodon
