God I hope Apple kills this before it ever gets off the ground.

The answer is really simple: if you don't want ads, pay for the apps. Developers have to make money. Ads is one way to do that. That's how capitalism works.

You can't expect developers to do work their day job and develop free apps at night.

If you don't want ads it's simple - don't install apps that have them. This is not an ad system built into the default OS. It seems it is simply an ad system other developers can include in their apps. Don't get me wrong, I hate ads as much as the next person.

Sometimes you don't have a choice. Ads in apps is one thing, but there is no way to make ads unobtrusive on a watch.

Ugh what a horrible idea. If you are going to drop $500-$600 on a watch are you really going to be the sort of person who is happy to have ad supported apps to save a few $?

Problem is a lot of developers now are building apps with no paid version but only one with IAPs.

To paraphrase Ronald Regan, Marketting is the world's second oldest profession, and it has a lot in common with the first.

however, noting that businesses could use the customizable face of the Apple Watch to notify customers of special deals, but only ever within an already-open app.

Faces is Watch are not customizable in other words, there is no API in WatchKit SDK to customize this item.

Or commerce apps from stores have ads, e.g., Best Buy, Sears, Target, etc.

Let me be super clear on this......

.....if ads show up on an Apple Watch display, I will not buy an Apple Watch.

This is fantastic news! Soon the rich, entertaining world of advertisments will be coming to wearables like the iWatch. Ads will be more personal and relevant than ever before!

This will improve lives by ensuring that us consumers are better connected to brands. I can't wait!

For as much as I agree with you, most of the ads come from free games. And you have an easy solution for that.
And ads on Flipboard are so amazing I actually like to see them.

With so many ads lately everywhere, does anyone even remember the last ad on any page that they visited? They're such a nuisance and a turn-off, I think most people simply don't pay attention to any ads.

I have no problem with this. But that it because I only have the Starbucks app, and it's the only one that would benefit from it. I think a lot of people here fear that this is going to be something that any developer could take advantage of, and that's simply not the case. It's not advertising that leads you into a download of something else either.

Apple probably doesn't have an issue with this because it ties into the technology it's making for retailers to use to begin with. You go into Starbucks, and there pops the Starbucks icon on your lock screen, same thing at some other places.

It would have an issue with a company trying to create a platform where anyone could send periodic notifications with ads to the watch. Because that specifically disrupts your experience, while what TapSense is doing here doesn't.

If I ever see an ad on the Apple Watch, I'm returning it. Period.

This brings more to my point of that a watch such as a Tissot or Hamilton is more elegant than Apple would ever make in their dreams. It's clear the Apple Watch is just another platform to sell you more ads.

No thank you Apple. I'll stick with my traditional automatics.

umm.. on a small inch display ?

If people want to do ads, i'm sure all they care about if, "get them on as many devices as you can." However, i can't feel but say "They no longer about what device it is, and how little room there is on a a small device."

If there is space, put a ad there :p

Why can't u just have ads where it also makes the user experience happy like on a bigger device... But all they care about is money.

Just one more ad targeted device, leaves me out... I have enough gadgets that have ads,, i don't need another one thanks.

If this is allowed on the platform, I won't be buying an iwatch. I get marketed to in too many ways already. I'm not giving them another way to either tell me about products I already know about or have no interest in anyway.
